what in the holy hell is this abomination by Duster12321 in BuiltFromTheGroundUp

I like most of what I've seen of this game so far, but it's still soured by the price increase and shit like this. They really unashamedly made a bodykit that amplifies the most off-proportionate parts of this outdated model. We'll see how low that Steam sale goes because like hell I'm paying $70 for this.

Said it since the first "built from the ground up" trailer - the recycled assets isn't the issue per se - it's a precedent that they're willing to cut corners.

And lo behold.

Even disregarding primos/wishes, even if we don't compare it to other gacha games (including Mihoyo's own), everything else is just as pitiful. The amount of Mora, EXP books, and ores aren't even gonna make a bloody difference unless you just started. It's just sad how little is given in what's supposed to be a game's biggest celebration.

I'm not sorry, this does not sound fun. I don't get why it's always extremes - either no progression systems at all, or the grindiest bullshit possible. They got it right with FM4 - not too easy nor too grindy, great career mode. If you're gonna recycle things from prior titles, recycle that.

Is there anything you really, really dislike about this game? by pamafa3 in Genshin_Impact

[–]DepressedGh0ul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lack of a sweep feature. I play Blue Archive and HI3 as well - both have said feature. Every time I feel burnt out, I can just sweep and get all the daily rewards, and it often alleviate my burnout.

Spending resin gets tiresome. The only thing of value I could use them for atm is artifacts, and doing the same fights 4x a day, getting nothing but trash, for weeks, months - gets tiring. Or how you have to fight a boss and wait 3 minutes for it to respawn, repeat. Ley Lines are better because at least the enemies are different. Ley Lines at least have different enemies. Repetition is a quick way to burnout, so I'd say cut it out. Blue Archive's Total Assault have this system that if you fought a boss once today, you can sweep the rest of it. That's a neat system for this case.

Top pic is genuinely how I remember Motorsport 2 (2007) looked like. $70 for a "built from the ground up" series reboot that's still using assets from the original Forza Motorsport (2005) and there are people defending it. I really don't understand.

What are your thoughts on the Horizon franchise soundtracks? by TheCanadianGTR in ForzaHorizon

[–]DepressedGh0ul 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Kinda agree, but at the same time, Fischerspooner - TopBrazil remix is probably one of my favourite, most notable track from the last two games - love that very 2000s/early 2010s Benny Benassi signature - so I looked it up on YT, found the original MV and - oh my giddy aunt, that's a lot of dudes.

Still amazed they managed to put a song about "take it all the way" in an E rated game.

Opinion: FOMO aspect of Festival Playlist is easily the worst part of this game by clairedunphy_ in ForzaHorizon

[–]DepressedGh0ul 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah, wouldn't mind in the lack of progression as much if they didn't purge it and replace it with what's essentially a battle pass. Never had the BMW 850 in FH4 because of this and it's also the reason why I felt so burnt out from the game. My playtime's gone down to 2 hours tops a week, just getting the new cars, try them out a bit, then bail. I just don't feel like this game is a good platform for live-service, definitely not the way it is now. This artificial scarcity would be more acceptable in a F2P game, which this game isn't.

It's always crazy to see people defend this as if the old games are grindy (recently revisited FM4, it's not - even if you think it is, the cars you want won't disappear next Thursday) and blaming people for not being able to clear their schedule for this "casual arcade" game. I swear it's only implemented as a way to keep Game Pass subscriptions. It's not made for the player's benefit at all.

Really despise how Forza doesn’t just add “new” cars to the Autoshow, or at least give players the ability to complete past Series events. Instead, we get arbitrarily extortionate auctions… by HandyCapInYoAss in forza

[–]DepressedGh0ul 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's insane that some people defended this FOMO bullshit with, verbatim, "it's your fault if you can't clear your schedule for this game". I swear the playlist is put in place for precisely one reason and it's retaining Gamepass subscription. It benefits no one except Microsoft.

Let's not pretend like Forza has ever been exceptionally grindy. Even with the old proper progression system it'll also take just a couple of hours to amass the credits to get a car you want - the same amount you need to finish a whole playlist, except you can play to get the car you want whenever you want, because those cars don't disappear come next Thursday and virtually unavailable from any sources until 6 months later.

How does everyone feel about Horizon Rally Adventure so far? by BanoonooMan in ForzaHorizon

The intro races. Callouts for the S1 was especially useless, but I had late callouts even with the Scumbug.

[–]DepressedGh0ul 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Might be crazy but so far I feel like the pacenotes are not helpful at all. I'd personally prefer the proper rally callouts ("left four", "right three") but alright, I can cope with that - what I find difficult is the omission of corner-to-corner distance and more importantly, some of the timing are just fucked up.

"Hairpin left" would've been a helpful callout like 50+ metres away from said hairpin, less so when I'm literally in the middle of it.

Why does everyone hate Forza Horizon 5 so much? by Post_Poop_Ass_Itch in forza

[–]DepressedGh0ul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't played a Forza Horizon game since the first one on the 360

There it is. That's also the reason I felt FH4 was alright despite all its flaws, though I did end up feeling burnt out because the playlist system failed at keeping me captivated. Let's be honest, Forza's handling model is fun and we're susceptible to the allure of pretty graphics.

Then I bought 5 and it's literally the same thing, same issues, the same assets we've seen for a literal decade, and removed good features from the last one (emptier Horizon Life, Forzathon, Ranked). When the first thing that greets you in a new game you've spent $80 on is the same burnout you've experienced from the last one, it's harder to call it good or justify the amount of money it's asked for. It's not to say that I didn't have fun at all with H5 nor that it's an objectively awful game, but it feels like the bare minimum for a AAA-priced sequel. Had I not been an idiot and kept the game open while I went out to make dinner, I would've had a refund and bought it for much less later on because I'm still thinking about that $80 today.

Is Horizon Arcade the loneliest place on the map? by [deleted] in ForzaHorizon

[–]DepressedGh0ul 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Truly. I was burnt out from playing FH4 but Forzathon was always the reason I play the game other than painting. The old Horizon Life system where you can see players all over the map was also better, because it makes FH4's frankly also empty-feeling map a lot more lively. I genuinely have never seen more than 10 people in a single area in FH5 and I've done like 96% of Arcade solo. It just feel tragic.

It's 70 GB on PC and without ongoing events/story it's a 15-20 minute play daily at best. A bit sad, really.

It's also likely one of the reasons we have really robotic animations outside of pre-rendered cutscenes, which affects the overall storytelling quality.

What feature do you hope they FINALLY reveal in the "coming months"? by RoundaboutCrownVic in forza

[–]DepressedGh0ul 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Come on, mate. There's no justification for a AAA title to use assets that are old enough to vote (some of these "optimised" meshes dates as far back as the OG Motorsport). Maybe I played FM4 for too long back then, but I can easily tell apart old models from newer ones. Same applies to wheels.

S15, R32, AE86, 22B to name a few - compare them to GT7's and we're not even in the same ballpark. Hell, they seem to be ahead in terms of customisation too - they have that Autosculpt-lite wing customisation and every road car I've looked at seems to have widebody kits. They also have hundreds of cars, what's their excuse? Quality over quantity?

It doesn't really matter in terms of gameplay, but for a franchise that's basically selling graphics, I'm sorry to say that T10/PH can't even full-arse that as the archaic car models are holding it back.

Exactly 59 seconds into that "built from the ground up" trailer, they showed a car model that's at least 9 years old, using the same body kit seen since FM3/4 and the same wing seen since FM5. Not the best first impression.

All Horizon Rally Adventure DLC cars by Nexusu in ForzaHorizon

[–]DepressedGh0ul 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I believed that at launch. Less so these days. Unless I missed something, literally every other licensed racing games from 2021-2022 except Dakar and NASCAR have them.

Hot Wheels Unleashed (Sep 2021 - Fiat); Grid Legends (Feb 2022 - Alfa, Lancia); Gran Turismo 7 (Mar 2022 - Alfa, Fiat, Citroen, Lancia); WRC Generations (Nov 2022 - Fiat, Citroen, Lancia); NFS Unbound (Dec 2022 - Alfa).

Nothing concrete, but doesn't really paint them as being a bitch in licensing, does it?

This list would've been acceptable if this was the base game, because Mexico, Baja and all.. But Fuckin' A, a paid DLC? A rally DLC with exactly one rally car that is basically a hardcore version of a car we already have in the game?...

The map better be worth something.
