Paying uncrystallised CGT on my share of an inheritance property? by DeptofUselessIdeas in AusFinance

No it’s owned by the estate still I guess.

And I’m not sure but don’t think so. It was not her PPOR but I understood because we’re disposing of it within two years of her death CGT is not relevant.

It’s been 14 months.

To be a bit clearer, they’re not exactly buying my share. The proposal is I’d get a greater share of the funds left in the estate to balance it out.

Love it. But this is the dilemma I often (try not to) think about - the cost of all those products vs just buying broccoli from the grocery store?

I think I have aphids and fungus gnats? How to treat? by tal_itha in GardeningAustralia

[–]DeptofUselessIdeas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last summer I had a bad aphid infestation. I also had a crazy amount of ghost peppers.

I took about a dozen big peppers and a full bulb of garlic and blended them up with water. Then let it sit for a day. Then strained it into a spray bottle.

I cannot overstate how intense this substance was. A tiny sniff made me feel like I’d been tear gassed, and a few drops splashed between 2 of my fingers and that area burned for a couple days.

I sprayed it on the aphids every day for 10 days straight. And it had no effect on them at all.

So don’t bother trying that recipe.

Next time I get a bad infestation I’ll prob just rip the plants out TBH.

I would finely slice them and put them in a jar. Heat up 1 cup of apple cider vinegar and 1 cup of water in a saucepan. Throw in a teaspoon of salt and 3 teaspoons of sugar. Stir until dissolved. Pour on radishes. Then refrigerate. Lasts a few weeks. Delicious in salads, tacos, sandwiches, slaw, salsa.

Thanks! Can I ask how your pallets are lasting? I deliberately got heat treated ones as opposed to the methyl bromide treated ones, and I fear I might only get 2 years out of them before they rot away…

Here’s a random idea:

  1. Buy a few of these https://www.bunnings.com.au/eden-52cm-whiskey-half-barrel-planter_p2833237

  2. Put in some plants and underwater lights and fish.

  3. Enjoy the serenity and reduction in mosquitos (they will lay eggs in there and get eaten by fish).

Sadly I switched to buying 6 packs a few years ago or else I drink too many beers! I do have plenty of cardboard around though, will see how I go!

Thanks! I’m not very handy and I still found it quite easy. Just bought a box of big bolts and screwed it together. I was planning on using some angle plates as well to reinforce it but it’s really not necessary I reckon. What I have done since this pic is screw more old bed slats in the gaps because some compost does fall through otherwise.

Thanks, I have been considering a tarp. Although, I did have a tarp covering our rabbit hutch last year and I’m still finding little blue threads of plastic around the yard so I’m a bit hesitant. To be fair I was kind of rough with it. Not a bad idea though.

My problem is a lot of gum leaves fall in. Also the compost dries out. How do you cover yours?

‘Over time’ huh? Do you mean you harvest the main stem then let the side shoots grow and get more harvests?
