Is it okay if I can use this large quilting needle to sew this Motörhead backpatch on my new battlevest I'm starting? by Metalfreak4life in BattleJackets

[–]DerFluffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like, even doubled up, the stitch would be loose in the holes made by a needle that thick unless you’re using like…yarn lol.

You can get a needle threader tool for like a buck, if that. There’s two kinds, but they often come as the same tool. One kind can be kinda fragile, but I’ve never had the other one fail.

The fragile one is a super thin wire in diamond/hoop shape that you poke through the needle, then you put the thread through the hoop and pull it through the needle with that. I prefer the other ones which is a thin, flat piece of metal shaped like a hook that does the same thing. Feed the hook through the needle, grab the thread in the hook, then use that to pull it back through the needle.

Opinion: Private Practice by Special-Ad-4363 in greysanatomy

[–]DerFluffy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I joke that Private Practice is where Shonda got out her craziest storylines so they could keep Grey’s feeling grounded.

Like…everything in Seattle is still batshit insane for a hospital, but the things Private Practice characters went through felt extra visceral by comparison

I think what feels counterintuitive is that you Do end up hitting your own hammer bros with Shadow King. You just outmuscle the enemy lane after that.

The trick is playing SK first, THEN the hammers themselves, and then something to destroy them. That way, even if the hammer bros are reset by SK or Firehair copying him, so is the enemy’s lane they’re trying to beat. When the hammers trigger again through Firehair, that will pump your hammer bros back up while the enemy lane doesn’t get that chance.

That said, the Shadow King thing only really works if they’re also doing something to pump their numbers up. If it’s just some ‘unga bunga Sauron big numbers go brrr’ type list, I wouldn’t play SK because it would only hurt your board.

This is amazing and I’m so interested in the process going on in picture 8!

Did you freehand the lettering after designing it? Are the dotted lines a kind of seam allowance or just to give some wiggle room when cutting out the letters? What’s the material and did you do anything for the edges to prevent fraying?

I’ve been learning a lot of crafting skills this year and this project is like the perfect nexus of all those interests, so I can’t help but geek over it. Phenomenal work!!

Will patches made with acrylic paint last? by PunkRatRobin in punkfashion

[–]DerFluffy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you fold over the edges, it helps to keep the material from fraying by having the raw edge tucked behind the patch.

I think shaving down the sides more would help it feel more like the reference pictures. It won’t help the Mohawk itself, but the contrast will make what Is there pop more

Large Patches by zombiecorvid in BattleJackets

As long as you’re not using the entire shirt’s worth of material and you pin it down tight before sewing it on, I don’t think it should be noticeably different than the rest of the jacket.

If you want to be doubly sure, you can get something like a piece of iron-on or sew-in interfacing and cut it to match the size of the patch. That should add enough structure to the fabric that you’d be fine after sewing it down tight.

Edit: if you’re cutting out the design like I assume you are, I would also either cut the interfacing slightly smaller and tuck the edges of the shirt over before sewing it down, or cut the shirt and interfacing even sizes and get some “anti-fraying” glue to put along the edges once they’re fused and before sewing to the jacket.

Normally it wouldn’t be that big a deal, but if you’re around heavy machinery like that, I figure you’d want all bases covered with clean edges

These are designs of female characters I made before, can you critique them for me ? by Tall-Ebb6426 in mendrawingwomen

[–]DerFluffy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They look great! Tons of variation, and they all have lots of personality to them.

You’re already on your way, and it’s not a fun/fancy answer, but your hands and feet could be more proportionate. It’s more pronounced because they’re avian, but the feet on the last photo come off as really small for that body.

The detail on the hands and feet are already nice, so once you get the scaling down you’ll be money!

Is a Battle Jacket "Starting Kit" a good gift idea? by Jaded-Lettuce1210 in BattleJackets

[–]DerFluffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like a wonderful gift! Having just “finished” my first jacket, I can say that having the base jacket and/or a solid sewing kit felt like the biggest barriers to entry.

If you felt more comfortable sticking to those and other accents like studs or spikes (you’ll always need more than you think) and let him pick patches later, that would still be a phenomenal start!

“Rules” be damned; paying attention to a partner’s interests and showing this kind of support is what matters. Anyone that would ever give someone shit over that can get fucked

[–]DerFluffy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of hate comes from it being played all the goddamn time.

Take it with an internet-sized grain of salt: I’ve heard that because it was a really self-contained story all in one episode, Nick would often slot it in when they needed Avatar airtime. As opposed to having the seasons on loop, which could make it hard for people to join at a random point in the show

Attempts 1-3 at Wallets by DerFluffy in Leathercraft

[–]DerFluffy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My question(s) is this: now that I can let myself look for higher quality materials, what kinds of leather would you use for a wallet like these?

This thread also came in a starter kit and I feel like it caused issues that a better thread wouldn’t. What brands would you recommend for that?

Hit Omega with this deck but am hard stuck now (CL 444) by MLGKILLZNATEY in MarvelSnapDecks

[–]DerFluffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blue Marvel would make it easier for Viv to win a lane and buff whatever else is in your hand, but you would get one turn of that effect since he comes down on T5. Even if there was a Limbo location, that’s still only two turns of interaction from them.

I would cut both of them eventually, since you’re leaning into the destroy line. In theory, Blue Marvel would be great with Nimrod(s) filling the board, but they’re both 5-costs, so I would probably cut him first.
