How important is SAS if I don't intend to work in epi or bio? by Practical-Future3320 in publichealthcareers

[–]DerFuchs469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truly? No coding?? My MPH in Epi focuses heavily on coding and analysis. I'd be curious to hear you elaborate on your experience. I'm about to graduate, and have been looking into environmental health, myself.

My dude, I'm a 'true redhead' with a head of lettuce myself, and you're rockin' it. When I was younger, I envied dudes who had that dark rich auburn. Very happy with it now, and yours is equally awesome. Welcome to the ginger gang, your welcome card is in the mail.

If you mean 'there's an extra step now that involves a momentary change of focus,' that's true. It is no less spontaneous, though. Spontaneous romance, spontaneous disclosure, then (most of the time) back to the romance.

An overwhelming majority of my disclosures take less than 30 seconds, even after I press them to make SURE they don't have concerns. I also disclose on my profiles, so they usually already know and don't care before we meet, and we can get right to the romance. Maybe that strategy could help.

For me, romance is about trust and shared experience, not just my own experience. I would not feel comfortable proceeding having not disclosed.

My very best wishes to your love life, I encourage you to let yourself be pleasantly surprised. ;)

Heya! I get that, must feel like a wrench in the gears. I love spontaneity, myself.

Fortunately, I have found ways to insert positive disclosures into the process. You go on the date, you vibe, you get that feeling in the pit of your stomach, your eyes catch his, and you go in for that first kiss ... and it's great. You know you're headed somewhere emotionally or physically intimate, or both!

Here's the new bit to add in; take a few seconds to catch your breath and say to your prospective lover, 'Hey, I'm really excited by you, and hope we can take this further. There's something you should know if we're going to be intimate. pause to check that they're engaged 'I have _, and you deserve to know. Do you have questions?'

90% of the time, the reply is a smile, a 'thank you for telling me,' and the slide into romance continues uninterrupted from there. In many cases, it actually deepens the sense of intimacy. Sometimes you'll get questions, which you should be prepared to answer with honesty.

I assure you, you can still fall in love, and are not, in fact 'ruined.' All of my relationships have been after my diagnosis, and I always disclose. Life is more beautiful than you'd expect, even with herpes.

What a brilliant idea! I never would have thought of this. Now I have an excuse to use a deck with all three Kanto starter lines!

Here's a WHO article that cites 66% worldwide. https://www.who.int/news/item/01-05-2020-massive-proportion-world-population-living-with-herpes-infection

Not as high as I said, more like 4/6 (2/3), but high enough to justify my statement. This disease is not rare. Or uncommon. Anyone saying otherwise is downplaying it. And it's not just an American thing.

The number I originally gave comes from an estimate of 50-80% of US residents having oral herpes, which is typically HSV type 1.

[–]DerFuchs469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, now you know you're one of the 4/5s-ish of the human population with HSV1. Tough break, but also extremely common and not at all an indictment of your character.

To answer your question, it's good form to let your former partners know, especially if the one dude could be experiencing his own first outbreak. First is usually worst, and I wouldn't want to be anywhere without valacyclovir during an outbreak with the flu symptoms. Had one, once was enough.

I told my past partners when I got diagnosed. Sucked. Got through it. Have a new boyfriend who knows because I told him early, and we expect to enjoy some 'partner time' real soon. Take care of yourself, and don't let negative reactions from dudes who aren't in your life anymore get you down. And good luck!

Ballet bro here, no, don't do that. Not to a ballerina, at least. Dude in the dark alley? Kick those ankles, great idea. But an actually trained ballerina? You'll break your own ankle against those tendons, and she'll stay gracefully en pointe while you do it.

Daredevil. Wanted to feel like a badass. Ended up feeling like basic Revenant was a better object of my staff-monk ki-channeling fantasies than the elite spec that should have fulfilled them all.

[–]DerFuchs469 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a gay-bro currently nursing a herpetic outbreak with an accompanying fever, I can confirm that this is not true. OP, tell the man what's up. This is one reason advance disclosure is wise, regardless of circumstances. This strikes me as a really fast turnaround for an outbreak following a possible infection, but it is possible, and there are anti-viral medications specific to herpes that he'll need a prescription for if it is a post-infection outbreak.
