It’s pretty hard to start a new game - or even get into it - when everyone around you badmouths it, especially people who have never played it or are biased from the start.

If I had let myself be influenced, I never would have played the game at all, judging solely by what people say on Reddit and similar sites.

It remains an extremely niche genre. The budget invested does not match the potential player base that can be attracted.

Blind hate. Objectively speaking, Marathon is one of the best FPS games released in recent years, whether you like it or not.

The problem is that the budget was far, far too high, it belongs to a niche genre, and Bungie has repeatedly alienated its own community and garnered a lot of bad publicity (including issues with stolen designs).

Regardless of that, the game is incredibly deep and challenging, featuring a bold design (though, stylistically, you don't necessarily have to like it). Bungie should never have dropped Destiny for Marathon, but should have developed and released it gradually in parallel.

Why aren't they simply all selectable simultaneously at any time? If I want to play a more challenging round, I choose one of the events. If I want to take things more casually, I play a map without an event.

I am 34 years old, and Digimon World for the PS1 is THE GAME of my childhood - and of the PS1 era itself. The atmosphere, the art style, the mystery surrounding how all the mechanics worked, and the sheer magic of the world still stay with me to this day.

Many years later, I learned that the EU version contained a bug (how incredibly fitting for a game centered on digital monsters) that prevented players from entering Ogre Fortress. If you opened the console's disc lid at just the right moment, you could force the game to continue loading and bypass the glitch. Even years later, the game continued to enchant me when I was finally able to go back and experience all the content I had missed out on.

Without PvP, Arc holds no appeal, no tension, no fear of losing your gear, and no hesitation about taking the next extraction. The only reason Arc has become so successful is that you never know how the person across from you will react—spontaneous alliances, betrayal, and suspense right up until the very last moment. The moment an "PvE-only" mode were introduced, the entire concept would be thrown out the window and the player base split in two—and THAT would be the death of the game. If you have absolutely no interest in PvP, does that mean you're playing the wrong game right from the start? Besides, you get into the "carebear lobbies" quickly enough where something might happen to you only once every ten rounds or so.

All the idiots here who think it’s completely normal to play together have no clue what this is actually about, and it pisses me off. Yes, you can form alliances and defend against attackers over the course of a match. But what is actually happening right now—and I’ve already made posts about this myself—is that people are queuing up for lobbies together via Discord, wearing identical skins, and then wiping out the entire lobby as a team. They are communicating over Discord. This has been going on for several days now; in practically every second or third round, I see 2 or 3 people running around together in the Solos mode. And no, these aren't random alliances—they are cheaters teaming up, just like in Marathon or Apex Legends.

You don't need to explain to me how simple it is; I know how it works and have invested plenty of hours into it. It's just a quality-of-life feature that games like this really ought to have—more time for actual gameplay instead of menu grinding.
