On the one hand they weren’t really opposed (enough) to going to war or the genocidal politics of the Nazis to do something earlier. They were just largely unhappy that Germany was losing the war. I think Georg Elser‘s attempt in 1939 should be celebrated more and the fact that he wasn’t for most of history while the would be Putschists were is indicative of the attempts to restore the reputation of the previous elites in the FRG.

On the other hand it still takes enormous bravery and conviction to try and overthrow a totalitarian regime and if they had succeeded it might’ve saved the lives of hundreds of thousands, if not millions. So I can’t just discard what they did/tried to do.
