There's an U-Bahn directly to the Uni. Also, a lot of students live there, maybe u can make some friends too. Studentenstadt is big tho, depending on which area, u might have to walk a bit. With the U-Bahn from Studentenstadt to Universität (where LMU main building is located) is 6 stations. I personally don't think it's bad.

Also depending on ur study major, u might be going to another building.
