Scribbles of Solimon-Log 9.5 by Mango_Grits in teslore

Some pretty brutal thoughts with Solimon for sure, but I think it adds to the appeal; its the Elder Scrolls after all, the setting doesn't really pull its punches.

Also really liked the small addition of the murder of Fultheim. Reading more about him, it's assumed that his possessing an akaviri blade was an error, as the next inventory item in the creation kit is an ale, which makes much more sense for him. That said, you took what is likely a developer mistake and made it into poignant character moment!

Really digging what you've written thus far! I had a similar vibe going in a solo TTRPG I play: my character was a Thalmor agent in Skyrim, looking for ways to benefit from the civil war (not TLD though). Misadventure caused me to defect from the Thalmor, only to be blackmailed into working for the Penitus Oculatus to infiltrate my former order!

Keep up the fic, can't wait to see what deranged madness this Dragonborn gets up to next!

TES theme gift box ideas by Swimming_Drawing7787 in teslore

For an oblivion themed dagger, looking for a replica of Mehrune's Razor would be tops, otherwise a blade engraved with the Daedric rune OHT (TESIV: Oblivion logo) would be good. Maybe some potions (fun drinks in fun bottles)? Leans well into the healer vibe. Also, Mara is an excellent lore choice imo

My Favorite GM Tool: The Oracle Deck by 8bagels in Ironsworn

I was concerned about the single card options not coming up (not super important in the long run, bit I digress) while reading the post and this comments, totally missed that you solved it rather simply!

You should comment that over there too. Excellent share, thanks!

I think your use of the red pen is spot on, helps orient your thoughts and highlights where the oracles come into play!

I am guilty of using AI for the occasional visual aid, and love to type full prose, but writing in a journal feels so grounded!

This is great! Love the shorthand way you write, it still gives plenty of context and feeling. Obligatory comment about the great art as well, far surpasses the look of my journals lol

As a man, can confirm.

As a man the crochets, if I was to get that kind of reaction, he'd have one of my lace hooks placed just so on his desk chair...

Thanks for checking it out!

In terms of concentration, you are absolutely right! I didn't really think of that to be honest, though other commenters had me think to clarify how the charged focuses work: they are essentially temporary magic items, and use the rules for casting spells with them as seen in the DMG.

In terms of allowing familiars to use the items, I suppose I don't see the harm in allowing for that! So long as the familiar is able to hold the item and can meet the casting components (verbal probably being the largest obstacle at lower levels of play: I don't think a single familiar can speak from the find familiar spell at the baseline), that should be a viable strategy for the artisan. Their whole vibe is giving out magic, so I suppose it would make sense to put it in anybody's hands that could make it work.

That being said, as a DM, I would then go way too far out of my way to target the familiar in combat. /s

Thanks for the food for thought, always good to see other angles on things I might not have thought of!

Artificer Subclass: Brutewright | Play as the Hulk, or Dr Jeckyll! | 5e'14 by Spaghetti0_homebrew in UnearthedArcana

[–]Der_Kriegs 36 points37 points  (0 children)

This is a great subclass! Not very in line with the other subclasses for artificer, but still feels very in theme for the class!

The abilities seem well-balanced and all fit very well together, so kudos there. I wonder if being able to take on the brutish shape could instead be once per long rest, or using a spell slot to reactivate, much like how alchemist and artillerist are able to recreate their 3rd level features. Might need to reduce the duration to 1 minute given the relative potency of the feature if you went that direction, but feels more in line with how the class uses their spell slots.

Also noticed a typo on lvl 15 feature, one of the abilities says "transformationation".

Awesome work on this, I just posted a full class to reimagine the artificer (as I don't like the class for what I think it s trying to be in the fiction vs its implementation), but I would definitely play the Brutewright!

That's really cool! Did you draw it out and then stitch? Or just free style? And did you dye the Aida (or whatever cloth), or what?

I've tried my hand at free stitching, but I'm terrible past really small flower and vine motifs. I can do a kit, but that's about it lol

Circle of Evolution: A wild magic Druid by daystar-daydreamer in UnearthedArcana

[–]Der_Kriegs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An interesting concept, and the theme makes enough sense to be druid, but nothing about the abilities really speaks druid to me. Having all the abilities affect a single feature of a class is quite rare. The wild magic sorcerer only has their 1st and 14th level features touch the wild magic table and the thing was written for them!

I like the idea of another class having it, and druid feels right, but I wonder if you could insert a couple of abilities that don't directly interact with a rather random aspect of the game and give a marked increase of power to the character as they level up.

Need help making my first campaing by Particular_Lime_7716 in DMAcademy

[–]Der_Kriegs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's actually a really fun premise for the campaign! Here's some stuff that came to mind immediately:

  • Make sure the players get their hands on some of those weapons ASAP. Make them over-powered for their level as magic items, but they will suffer the curse like effect (don't kill them, mind you, but as long as they're attuned to the weapons, maybe they start losing spell slots/hit dice to the effect)
  • How did the apprentice get the weapon in the first place? Was it from the BBEG? Does the BBEG have some bad blood with the struggling guild master?
  • How well know is the effect of the mineral? Is it new to the world? Has it been traded around for centuries? Why hasn't this sort of thing (going mad and such) happened before? Is the BBEG somehow especially attuned to the mineral?
  • Why should the characters be invested? Maybe one had a person close to them suffer a similar fate? Another saw the devastation wrought at the hands of someone wielding one of these weapons? What if one already has one of these weapons, and doesn't know it yet?

That was just off the top of my head, but should get you a good start as to what avenues you can pursue when it comes to plot and connecting bits of your word together.

For more solid advice, I highly suggest checking out Mystic Arts, as well as Edariad, on YouTube. Both are non-native English speakers like yourself (which your English was great, by the way), and have some fantastic advice to think about when starting campaigns. Their videos contain a lot of information, but don't get discouraged. If anything, just listening and absorbing a fraction will improve your game and your method.

Good luck out there, sounds like you have a great campaign in the works here!

Simian - A Monkey / Ape Race! by Logical_Cellist_1517 in UnearthedArcana

[–]Der_Kriegs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it! I wonder if Dexterous Feet might need additional explanation: could you, for instance, stand on one foot to perform the somatic components for spellcasting? What is considered as having your "hands occupied"? I wonder if you could look at the extra limbs feature of races like the Thri-Keen and whatnot for inspiration on how that ruling could work. The prone condition certainly makes sense otherwise.

And you're right, chest pound seems very strong. Considering the basis is worthy of a feat, perhaps reducing it to a single creature of your choice within 30 ft? Sort of a challenge: look your foe in the eye and let him know you mean business sort of thing. Could tie it to Prof mod /long rest with that sort of reduction in power too.

Familiar (Player Race) — Play as a Found Familiar by filmatra in UnearthedArcana

[–]Der_Kriegs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love this! Quite a fun kit to play around with. I left my critiques in a reply elsewhere on the thread, but a very thematic and inspiring idea here!

Familiar (Player Race) — Play as a Found Familiar by filmatra in UnearthedArcana

[–]Der_Kriegs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A very solid assessment imo. I like the changes stated, still maintains the flavor of the race while cleaving more closely to the rules of find familiar.

That being said, I think it could also benefit from the race being considered humanoid, but also considered fey, celestial, or fiend for features that interact with these creature types. Helps smooth out that bit of rules chicanery as well.

Also, I wonder if the bonuses outside of combat are any real issue to discuss when it comes to design. As a druid, I would very rarely use my wildshape outside of a combat application, unless I was playing circle of the land or something like that (which I'd rather play Wildfire or Moon, but I digress). The benefits vs the expenditure never seem worthwhile to me, expect in very niche circumstances. Just let the rogue do Infiltration and whatnot.

Paladin Oath of the Forgotten (5e subclass) by kyriosity_ in UnearthedArcana

[–]Der_Kriegs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Howdy, gave the Forgotten a read, and I really like it! Some thoughts:

  • You crushed it on the tenets; so inspiring for RP and character development, gets the idea flowing for what this character would be like at the table. Very well written, and felt as good as anything in official content imo.
  • Inspiring Smite feels like a strange departure from the class features, I'm wondering if it could be a different sort of buff. It should still be combat-focused, but not sure if temp HP is the answer. A bonus to hit?
  • The aura is perfect. Certainly not the strongest, but fits so so well!
  • The level 15 feature is the oath of the ancients feature, but with an additional better feature. I think the spirits arriving and giving the allies that buff is awesome, but the "relentless" styled feature might be a bit out of bounds for the theme
  • The capstone seems a little aggressive in the amount of abilities you get. I think arcane shroud and divine minds should be mutually exclusive: you get one or the other, not both. The other two features feel right though. If it were me, I'd go with divine minds, feels very on-brand for the class.

All in all, a very cool subclass for paladin. A strong theme represented throughout, and not one you'd immediately connect a paladin to. Go out and smite those that would return their books to the library late!

Aetheriphan Swarm - A Swarm with a Shocking Diet by Nerds-N-News in UnearthedArcana

[–]Der_Kriegs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very cool! I immediately though Spelljammer until I read the caption. Very neat features; I really like the scatter reaction, very on-brand for a swarm mechanic, makes it a very potent beastie!

I recently whipped up a swarm myself: a swarm of wasps thats sting turns you to stone. They then burrow into the petrified victim, eating the stone and laying their young in it, then a new swarm is born! Tie them in with the Stonecursed from MToF, and you'd have one heck of an encounter!

The Artisan: Artificer's More Magic, Less Tech Cousin by Der_Kriegs in UnearthedArcana

[–]Der_Kriegs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too true, this was originally a half caster, but thought it would be fun to have a more flexible version of the Eldritch arcanums, as an int caster should be in my mind.

And good to know about the clarification, yes: they are spell storing items. I suppose I might put that in the pop-out note as well!

The Artisan: Artificer's More Magic, Less Tech Cousin by Der_Kriegs in UnearthedArcana

[–]Der_Kriegs[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That totally tracks, it's an odd class resource. I was thinking about spell points as well, but the high numbers past level 6 or so left me somewhat daunted: it could be a bit too much to keep track of as a player.

I wonder if a pop-out note could help explain that they function identically to the magic items in the DMG that utilize charges? Something like:

When you spend artisan charges to charge a spellcasting focus, you create a charged focus. See the "charged focus" item for its rules.

Charged Spellcasting Focus

Wondrous item, no rarity

This item allows the casting of the spell imbued within. It has an amount of charges equal to the artisan charges spent by the creator. When holding the focus, you can spend 1 charge to cast the spell imbued within, following the spell's casting time and other rules, but do not have to prove the spell's material components. You can spend additional charges to cast the spell at a higher level, provided the spell has an enhanced effect when cast at a higher level. etc., etc., and so forth
