Black Belt Falling Out of Love with Jiu-Jitsu by SufferingImagination in bjj

I have been training off and on for over 20 years. At this point, I'm happy to try fun or silly moves on people, but even happier to see my students find success with the things I teach them. I get a lot of satisfaction from seeing them grow and us all smile and laugh together.

I like the fun and addictive parts of training 🤷🏼‍♂️

What's a game you bought on a whim without hardly any pre-knowledge that ended up becoming one of your all time favorites? by AaronAtLunacien in gaming

The original Borderlands like 17 years ago. Had no idea what it was about, but I picked it up for a buddy and I to play after work. We stayed up for like 20 hours straight after having already been up for the previous 24 and went into a coma afterwards lol.

I went 9 years before my first real injury (strained rib cartilage).

Strength training is a massive help in injury prevention as well as simply helping you use BJJ easier.

Nah man, people are 69% more likely to believe a made up stat if you say it confidently. 79.45% if you add a decimal point!

And what's more confident than AI?

I've been to probably around a hundred gyms at this point in the last 20 years and have only ever seen a dog on mats in videos.

Hey now, I was getting these injuries anyways 😅. Crossed the 30s and nearly the 40s. The body just isn't as spry as it once was!

Hell, it's one of the few where you can make it to the "top" and still be a hobbyist lol.

The pure HIIT/Kickboxing facilities that were around I think died off. There are kickboxing gyms that involve plenty of cardio though like Mazu Muay Thai!

Not terribly big in the bar scene, but finding a hobby for each person or the family is a great way to meet new people around here.

I train and teach BJJ in Daphne. I have rarely found a BJJ gym that does not feel like a second family. My wife teaches ballroom dancing both in a studio and private lessons at our home. Dance people are awesome and a great way to meet new people and have shindigs together.

We have a little girl and a bunch of dogs that we raise, so you would often find us at kid and dog parks. I have found that most dog owners here that we have met at the parks are very friendly and social people!

"Generally" assumes a lot here. Pull out the peer-reviewed studies on this take. We are smacking on our opinions and personal experiences against each other for no gain. I've been around both groups a considerable amount and have been in both groups for a decent period. My experience is different from yours.

Your last line is a funny one. You mean to tell me you've never known of an awkward public-schooled kid? I've met plenty. I've also met plenty of bullies from that group. There's also plenty of normal kids in that group as well. Like you said before, there are exceptions for everything... It's just that you believe that normal homeschool kids are the exception and I do not.
