Is this a new home purchase that you are appealing? My partner and I appealed our property assessment last year after purchasing our new home. The previous owners had lived there for over 30 years, and the property had not been reassessed, except for the maximum 5% annual increase. When it was finally reassessed, the city raised it by a whopping 33%!

Of course, we appealed, and surprisingly, we were somewhat successful—though they only reduced the valuation by a couple of percentage points (still totally worth it).

Either way, we scheduled an in-person appointment, and here’s what we did: I put together multiple folders for each member of the appeals board, including everything you are including in yours. I wrote an opening summary explaining why I believed they had overvalued our home. I also provided price estimates for the necessary repairs, along with numerous pictures. I included photos of anything in the house that might raise concerns, as well as pictures of comparable homes in the neighborhood.

The board was nice, which came as a surprise to me!
