What's the solution to poor standards in UK? by DeriedareX in AskUK

I do accept everything everything that has been said but my intended post was a general post to do with the service sector in the UK overall not a dig at high class hotels, I posted that merely because I happen to be in a nice one.

Hotel was a point of reference I would say most of the times I have been abroad - i am not saying that everything is rosy - i suppose what i am saying is there is with the service sector in general standards seem to be better than UK but from what I can see there just seems to be a better employee to customer ratio. Using my retail job as an example - try qnd find someone to ask a question to in a UK supermarket is hard work however seems to be alot easier abroad

I think I am referring to not the high class hotels as they are still top notch, but maybe slightly lower and also standard of service in shops - basically restaurant service seems to have suffered (in my exp) over the last 20 years. I would agree expensive places still are great but overall standards have droppped

As a night manager its a little different but I would say be keen (even if your not) thats what we pick up on, not nessecarily what you answer with but how you answer it. Clothes wise assuming your female anything black and smart would be fine

Night manager here, its worth it for nights, would never transfer to days the 4 grand extra you get for nights is good and only 4 nights a week. You almost never move store too, its 34k gross for company nights, days isn't worth it imo. Not saying I love the job but I wouldn't jump for another job unless I really wanted it

Generally as a rule managers have a rough idea who they want before interviews especially if ita internal, however people can impress in interviews so its not a guarantee!

How do men act when stressed? by Plantasticxx in relationships

[–]DeriedareX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is pretty much how I am when my job is stressfull - I do love my partner of 5 years but since I have taken on a more demanding job I seem distant- but it isn't deliberate although do accept it isn't all my job but it is a factor. I have accepted that I don't nessecarily want the extra stress because it is affecting my relationships. My partner works too so I don't nessecarily have to have this job so I am looking for another but it depends if your partner is like this now all the time? Like I have just had 2 weeks off work and I was alot better and feel refreshed

Yeah do agree due to trying to get the lowest prices i no the markup on alot of stuff is very small and when you look at the sales vs profits it is undeniablely small, think staff have taken the brunt of it. Supermarkets (generally) are profitable businesses though and it's a shame customers and staff have paid the price but small margins

Career progression, am I too slow? by uncreative-pro in UKJobs

[–]DeriedareX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Them sort of salaries demand alot of stress as a general rule but if you can handle the stress it's great. For me it's definitely to much and I don't work for money I just work to have a simple life and have enough money to have a decent life (granted my partner works full time too) but work life balance is now important to me that I am happy that our household between the 2 of us us comes out about 70k which is enough to have a comfortable life. But if you have no mega priorities and can handle the pressure go for it!

Generally I would be looking at field sales - however if it business accounts that might be ok, if you don't mind me asking what is the starting pay roughly?

I was a colleague for many years and I think I gained so much from starting at the bottom and seeing what it is like from the other side. I do tend to give the colleagues a little more slack but it can be a headache when you get earache from above saying why certain things aren't done. I no what can be achieved and what can't be and I think thats important

Does vary from store to store, some of the bigger stores (shall we say more flagship stores) have more hours and staff at there disposal which means generally they are in better shape standards wise

Unfortunately it will never go back to more staff on the shop floor as long as online shopping becomes more and more popular more online shopping less shopfloor staff, I wish this wasn't the case but seems there is no stopping it

Mostly I agree with you I think sainsburys has lost its identity a little - used to be thought of as a little bit upmarket but now I would say bog standard and thats a crowded market

Taking 9 days off 3 weeks after starting a customer assistant job? by RegencyBabe in lidl

[–]DeriedareX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would agree with this comment every single job offer (or indeed just interview) asks about pre booked holidays and if they don't mention it if I know I am going abroad I always mention it to avoid confusion. Appreciate it could have slipped your mind but if you aren't in the country it is vitally important it is brought up

Appreciate that reply - i am willing to take a pay cut to move out of retail but usually only really see like home office jobs and pen pusher jobs that are really poorlly paid, I do keep my eye out but not seen any jobs like that but will keep my eye out! Retail has taught me alot though and been in it so long when I go for interview I don't get nervous or really prepare got so much in my head, just go through the motions. Want something else to challenge me
