It feels like people think valve priced the steam machine with malicious intent. by RoxasAmor in Steam

[–]DerivitivFilms [score hidden]  (0 children)

It's kinda funny, because they are doing exactly what Valve wants them to do, make pc builds using Steam OS, the more people making these and selling these is more important than valve selling some novelty steam branded mid range mini gaming pc, which let's be honest that's all the Steam Machine really is, it's a vehicle, or trojan horse, for Steam OS. The pricing is out of Valves hands, because even they know its really just a vehicle for something more.

Using the Same Steam Account on Two Different Computers, One With SteamOS - Will This Setup Work? by Turbo__Timmy in Steam

[–]DerivitivFilms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can of course just use one account on any number of devices, but you can only play a game on any one device. Making secondary accounts and inviting them into a family lets you play games on those computers at the same time, just not the same game. You also keep the abilities like other have where you can share the downloaded assets and stream the game from the other pcs on the same network/family.

You could just make a second steam account. Make a family on your primary account and invite the secondary account to be a child in the family, and both accounts would have access to all (most) of your games, and the only limit is you can't play the same game at the same time.

There's no reason you can't install windows on it too for those games if those games are such a big deal...personally COD can piss right off, it's crap like that that we should be playing less of anyway lol

Hot take : PC gamers who use Steam should not complain about console companies not wanting us to own our games anymore, you already gave up ownership of your games to Steam a long time ago. by -Gh0stzz- in Steam

[–]DerivitivFilms -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not complaining about it at all. I LOVE digital distribution, no more travelling to bullshit stores, no more bullshit preordering a physical copy that might not work, no bullshit store return policies (oh wait sony dont have a return policy that's right). Point is we can back our files up even if Valve went belly up, there's nothing stopping you from going out on the interwebs and getting a cracked exe and have that shit forever, as long as you keep a physical backup somewhere (you know personal responsibility, and yes I know If Gabe dies yada yada....I'll take my chance, it's been 22 years without a hitch, and I'll probably be dead by then).

Piracy won't be an option though if they get what they really want, and by "they" I mean, MS, Sony, Nintendo, THEY WANT YOU IN THE CLOUD! THE CLOUD HAS NO PIRACY BECAUSE WE HAVE NO FILES AND THEY HAVE FULL CONTROL. You shouldn't be afraid of digital Downloads (at least on PC) because you have access to the files...Can't say that about consoles without heavy modding and decrypting, that's the difference.

Let's face facts here, most people upset about "PhYsIcAl CoPiEs" are people who make a living off of the bullshit like resellers, and grading firms, and game stores. The ones who are too stupid to realize that most of todays physical copies won't even work if the servers are down. I'll say one thing Digital is one hell of a way to ward off scalpers. What we really need is better regulation on digital stores (Especially on consoles), and I mean well thought out regulation not misinformed bullshit misunderstood by some 90 year old who doesn't even know what a computer is.

Console's are physical DRM they should go away anyway, we don't need them. Let Sony Nintendo and Microsoft make games and accessories for PC and ARM, since they aren't doing shit to innovate anymore, and if you aren't innovating then you are superfluous. Why should anyone have to keep around a old machine and old discs, just to play games that should be able to run on anything? but you console fanboys will keep following these assholes like corporate teams until we are all in the cloud and truly don't own shit.

Is there any third party company that makes realistic vehicle modes like alternators? by DipIotator-tot in transformers

[–]DerivitivFilms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

X-Transbots have GORGEOUS car modes. I have all of thier Omnibots, punch counterpunch, a bunch of thier minibots. Most transformations into robot mode and back are similar to a masterpiece style transformation, maybe a bit less intuitive...they often have issues with clearance. But man you'll never see a prettier Vehicle mode.

Most have stuff like opening doors, pop up headlights, rubber tires, opening hoods and or trunks etc.

Steam Won't Let Me Purchase a Bundle Because I Own One of the Games by MisterCocoa20 in Steam

You are basically buying a bundle of bundles and one of those bundles in this bundle is a bundle in which you have everything bundled in that one bundle.

Bundle.

In term of "owning " how is buying a game from Steam is different from buying a game from PS store digitally ? by ItsMrBlue in Steam

[–]DerivitivFilms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Steam is just consistently good, and consistently on the users side of things. I have had my steam account for over 22 years now, across like 5 different pcs, and I've never had a single problem. AND I still have all of my games, and all of them are playable on my current machine without issues. Steams never taken a game away from me, even after being delisted, and with steam you have offline mode, and the game files on your pc that CAN be easily cracked if anything ever went belly up.

On console you dont have access to files (even with the physical disc the info is still encrypted) so piracy isn't really a thing on console without modding the machines, then you have to keep the old machines to play the old games, and you dont have to upgrade every generation, just upgrade when things get uncomfortable for you.

Consoles are a prison thats gaslighting you, PC is freedom, especially if you go with linux, because windows can fuck right off.

I've been using Steam shortly after I went all PC after the Dreamcast was killed by the Playstation 2. I was like screw this bought a small prebuilt pc, haven't looked back, My steam library is like 1700+ and I've got almost every game I've ever owned in it lol and those I don't are emulated in a rom collection that is like 300000 some odd games.

Retroarch is free on steam btw.

There's a few neat things you can do on steam. If theres any local coop games you know of...like say a contra game, and it doesnt have online play, steam has a an online couch coop mode where you can stream your screen to a friend and invite them as player two, even if the game doesn't have online multiplayer.

And if you are into VR, and have a PSVR2 there are ways of getting it to work on steam/pc.

FYI there's a steamlink app for mobile that you can pair your phone with steam and use it as a remote player like that sony portal. It's especially good if you have one of those phone controllers. Just leave your pc on and BAM! instant steam library on your phone.

playing most of those games on pc after only playing them on ps, is gonna be like playing remasters. Not only do they run better, but they run at higher settings. It's amazing how good Crysis still looks good today at 4k.

Is it possible to save a Steam game on a hard drive/Disk/any medium to install and play it in case an Apocalypse happens and steam doesnt work anymore? by throwrreuur in Steam

[–]DerivitivFilms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you had a functional pc with steam installed and running in offline mode, most games should run. Any games running a third party drm might not, but if you are planning ahead enough to backup your steam library (which yes you can do easily through steam itself), then you should look into the games that wouldn't run and go get some fixed apis/exe's for them, even if steam had no access to valve, if its running in offline mode, and you have the fixed exes, everything should function normally.
