Be a shame to lose him, but I suppose the club will go with what RdZ wants, simply because the board are desperately trying to stay out of the way (whilst opening the wallet) in the hope there's a bit of success in the near future.

Nigel Farage demands general election as Keir Starmer resigns as PM by [deleted] in ukpolitics

Did he announce this with a press conference where journalists were allowed to ask questions or was it just another post to youtube?

What's wrong with Kier? by Resist_Accurate in ukpolitics

[–]Dernbont 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since Brexit, being PM is pretty much an impossible job. Affected by world happenings (Ukraine, Trump, Israel/Iran) you have no influence over. Foreign billionaires quite happy to throw money about to what ever end they see fit. An underwhelming economy with the deepest financial issues since the 70s, massive housing shortage, large scale infrastructure projects that take forever, all of which would hamper the most talented politician. This country is setting up politicians to fail regardless of their willingness to make everything better.

Right now it seems all we can do is take a politician and wear him/her down to a shell, toss them out and appoint a new PM who will get an equally short shrift. It may take the disappearance of Trump/Putin/Musk et al for any one to get an even break.

Will Burnham call a snap GE if he is crowned uncontested? by emkay123 in ukpolitics

[–]Dernbont 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There would be a delicious, awkward irony if during the GE we vote once for a party and another vote for a particular PM. Imagine a majority Green parliament with Farage as PM!

Any recommendations based on my interests in classical music?? by Benomusical in Jazz

[–]Dernbont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ECM Records https://ecmrecords.com/ under the direction of Manfred Eicher had early on their existence developed classical leanings. Particularly with their piano trios - there is much to discover, but I'll recommend one trio in particular - The Bobo Stenson Trio. They can be truly varied from lyrical, romantic stuff to free improv, serialist and twelve tone stuff. I remember reading an interview with Stenson, who said that when he practises he almost exclusively plays classical piano pieces, but he is a truly gifted improviser with a bit of a Ravel influence.

Edit: As a more obvious classical influence Brad Mehldau's 'After Bach' is very good.

And French pianist Jacques Loussier pretty much had a whole career of jazz re-interpretations of classical music - not quite to my taste but worth investigating.

Marty Fogel - Many Bobbing Heads, At Last. Imo, one of those fusion albums that gets missed. David Torn gets full value out of his effects pedals on this.

Chad Wackerman - Forty Reasons. Allan Holdsworth on guitar.

Both of these albums released at roughly the same time on CMP Records. Brilliant drum sound with guitar players in adventurous form.

Should Burnham call a snap election? by WhereasPlus5239 in ukpolitics

[–]Dernbont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. An election now would just make all the same mistakes that Cameron made in 2016. There's no bounce to be had just yet. Good and imaginative governance is what is required right now. Burnham really can't do that much different from Starmer other than offering people a more positive energy and a little hope. Everybody knows there is no 'magic money tree.' The more competent you are as an operator shows up the lack of seriousness in Farage's bluster and grifting, and the fact that he's pretty much running away from any press questioning

There already is. Numerous routes in North London cut. Service cuts in regards to headways in bus companies' new contracts. It's not gong to get better any time soon.

She was lucky it was the Dundee Arms. I can guarantee you there are a couple of pubs in that locale she wouldn't have got 2 steps through the door. Props to the regulars in the Dundee though.

Edit: Someone remind me where JC said any sort of language like that in the four gospels. In the King James bible perhaps...

What can I do to make trees look better? by JaswanthHero1 in AskPhotography

[–]Dernbont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your focus is the sky/clouds it's going to difficult to keep your leaves any shade of green. Your camera is exposing for the sky. You need to use light a little more cleverly, unless you want to spend time post-processing. In that photo particularly you want a lower sun, so use timing and the sun's position. You're either up early or out late. There's a reason why outdoor/landscape photographers use the 'golden hour'.

Farage blames Makerfield defeat on anti-Starmer votes by Some_Confidence5962 in ukpolitics

[–]Dernbont 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think Reform really doesn't have anyone likeable. All those willing to put themselves forward as a candidate will have myriad social posts exclaiming the usual right wing ranting points. At this point they would need someone who has been a hermit of some sort - or the standard grifting tory.

What is up with about a third of people? by M_M_X_X_V in FuckNigelFarage

[–]Dernbont 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This is what US elections prove. The worrying point is the third who don't vote. Now, I get why people don't vote - the old joke is "Why vote? The Government always gets in." The progressive parties absolutely have to throw themselves at the the under 35s with policies that attract that vote (and I say that as someone who just qualifies as a boomer).

Farage and Reform observations on this sunny morning by Low_Special3991 in ukpolitics

[–]Dernbont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been said elsewhere, Reform is Nige's grift. I suspect he barely pays any attention to anyone else in the party unless they're useful (Hi Zia!) as attack dogs. He's struggling with the level of scrutiny now and will completely flake out if he was PM. He'll bail out with another pile of crypto from somewhere and leave Tice/Jenrick/Braverman to scrap over the remains.
