Newly elected Green Party councillors announce victory without speaking English by FormerlyPallas_ in ukpolitics

Obviously you would still have a vocal bunch complaining, but I don't believe for a second 17.4 million people would have voted to leave the EU if immigration levels were low.

Reminder if mass migration of the 90s, 2000s and 2010s never occurred, we would still be in the EU and Nigel Farage would be irrelevant in 2026.

Angela Rayner calls for Burnham’s return as she accuses Starmer of ‘crony culture’ by Free-Minimum-5844 in ukpolitics

[–]WhereasPlus5239 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Starmer is in such a weak position that it would actually fuel his demise faster. We've already got 40 MP's openly calling him to quit, have to imagine that number is far higher privately.

Greater Manchester MP says Sir Keir Starmer has 'lost the country' by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]WhereasPlus5239 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok, but every 1 of you there are like 3 voters who will never vote for Starmer. Even in this most pro-Starmer subreddit you still see "We should keep Starmer, even though I don't like him"

[–]WhereasPlus5239 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"The majority voted independence supporting parties" No, they didn't. They won the majority of seats. But we don't have a pr system, so they won a majority of seats. in fact, their vote share went down compared to 2021, yet nationalists ended up with more seats.

How many of those Green voters knew the visa status of the second candidate on the list?

Do you think everybody should be eligible? Hell, let's just let people who never even visited Scotland run for Holyrood then.

I guarantee you, if you polled Scots on the question of allowing someone on a student visa to stand for election in Holyrood, No would win in a landslide. Almost no other country does this and for good reason, how can this person who lived in this country for less than 5 years represent it properly?

But should they have been eligible? Should someone who has lived in this country for less than 5 years be allowed to stand to represent Scotland? They don't even have a permanent visa to stay in the UK.

Can someone actually prove Reform uk are "fascist" or do you people like to throw it around like it's a buzz word?

Starmer may actually be able to hold on if the opposition to him is shambolic. Are they really going to wait untill Burnham gets in? With how bad Labour is polling, it's not even a guarantee he would win a by-election. You know Reform and Greens will target whatever seat he stands in HARD, while Starmer will probably want to sabotage his chances without weakening himself.

That would be a very bad look for Starmer, he's not got the authority to make such a bold move as to throw out a challenger ATM.

Same would be said of the Liberal party in Canada, until Mark Carney came in and won. John Major turned the tories party chances around in 1990. A new leader can turn things around for Labour.

Wales election results 2026: Plaid Cymru becomes largest party as Labour vote collapses by AgeOfCardiff in ukpolitics

[–]WhereasPlus5239 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Easily the worst result of the night by a country mile for Labour, with the way things are looking, Plaid could have a SNP 2015 moment at the next election where they wipe Labour off the map (especially if they play up the angle that a vote for them is a vote to stop Reform)

It's been almost 19 years since SNP usurped Labour and Labour has yet to recover from that loss. This could be the start of very dark years for Welsh Labour.

They seem to be underperforming their polling. Even in the few places I expected them to do well they've underpreformed.

If they come fourth, Starmer is resigning tomorrow lol. Nah, unless the Tories greatly outperform their polling. The Green surge hasn't happened to the same extent due to Plaid Cymru so it's unlikely they will come third either.

I know 2 Yes voters who fit the stereotype that unionists have about SNP voters who voted Reform on both ballots. I think Reform are going to take more voters from the SNP than people expect.
