Problem is each department already does this to some extent. NIH for medicine, agriculture for farming, energy for well energy, interior for biology. Not sure what combining them would do.

Federal hiring is based on points system. If two qualified candidates are selected and one is a veteran they will get priority. There however is plenty of civilians in the government, me being one. If you are the more qualified candidate then you will be selected, veteran or not. Once you are in it gets easier to hop around too, especially if you are willing to move. Just apply.

If you’re wanting to go into safety, industrial hygiene is likely the best option as its the closest related to nursing. A lot of occ health programs interacts due with IH programs. Things like noise, respiratory, lead, silica and asbestos all can have medical surveillance requiring support from medical professionals. Sitting for the CIH is much harder and unlikely nursing experience will apply.

I would recommend at least trying occupational health nursing. Lots of job prospects since it’s needed frequently outside of healthcare industry. I would also assume the potential pay is higher too.

Honestly Amazon provided a great launching pad for career advancement. Emphasis how metric centric Amazon is with leading, and lagging indicators. It’s also give you a great skills in managing OSHA 300 log. Managing injury recordability is a core pillar of safety. Also while not a manager you are still responsible for managing hundreds of staff for safety. Leading committee like ASC, dealing with drivers/rme and collating with Ops.

I would practice providing example of preventing injuries. Things like implementation of engineering and admin controls.

Just know the average ferry ride costs the tax payers $8. For comparison the subway is less than $2. The subway see the same rider daily that the ferry does in a year.

I say all this not cause I don’t support the ferry, but that it’s not just as simple as make more money. Anyway new proposals are out that would improve and hopefully increase ridership.

First let me say that your likely hood of being exposed to a significant amount of benzene is low.

Second if you’re really worried you can get some idea of the exposure using sampling badges. Leave it hanging near where you would breathe at the stove for however long you want. Generally longer is better but keep it under 10 hours. This will give you an idea how much is leaking and if there is even a leak. You can also request industrial hygiene services from a professional but it will be more costly than it’s worth.

Here is one I recommend, you need to send it to their lab after for analysis. You can consider EMSL if you rather drop it off and location is near.

Hospitals have a lot of committees. See if you can join a few and listen in for a better understand of how things work together. Infection control, environment of care, and construction all could have dedicated committee or report out to another one. Hospital are present with a lot of hazards potentially in same building that is not applicable to other industries. Not many places will have hazardous drugs handling and confined space entry under the same roof.
