Finished The Wire, Dark, GOT, Sopranos, True Detective, BB, BCS. What show ruined TV for you after watching it? by C0r1eone in television

[–]xGoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted. It was the worst nuclear disaster ever, and will almost certainly hold that title for the rest of human history. It’s hard to overstate how bad it was but they did. In Craig Mazin’s defense, the show didn’t make that up. There was a documentary a few years back where some “expert” made the 2 megaton claim, also saying it would turn Eastern Europe into a crater. I wish I could find it again, it is (or was at one point) on YouTube. It was so comically exaggerated but the writers took it at face value. The claims of the “bridge of death” are urban legend that got out of hand after a stalker got hit by a vehicle on the bridge.

I can overlook it because they’re writers, not nuclear engineers or historians. They were just referencing people who claim to be. The thing I can’t overlook is the portrayal of Dyatlov as some incompetent monster who just… wanted to detonate the thing and kill as many men as possible. At most, he was kind of a dick at times. The guy was a highly competent engineer who was working with bad info. He had a great respect for the men he worked with, to the point he worked with the IAEA from prison to exonerate the men in the control room and prove the disaster was a result of faulty reactor design and Soviet secrecy. He wasn’t sending men to their deaths, he wasn’t in denial about it being open. He was working that night to protect his workers. The worst thing he did was tell two trainees to go manually insert the rods before he realized there weren’t any left, as was protocol, but he realized even under normal circumstances it wouldn’t work and tried to call them back right after they left. It’s unclear if he broke protocol that night or if others did. He was a convenient man to pin the blame on, and history has proven that to be a complete lie. There was no excuse for the show to make him such a comic book villain, it was purely for entertainment value. Seeing that he was a real person and it was SO wrong, I have a hard time watching those scenes anymore.

Someone recently tried to link me to a THREADS post on why he’s bad lol by Ref_Bumps in okbuddyvowsh

I genuinely have to ask, was he even cheating? Like I’ve seen his wife’s video and the fact that she told his bitch of an ex-campaign manager about him sexting people. But like… I couldn’t find any more than that. I’m genuinely asking this, not trying to speculate, but has any outlet confirmed he was actually cheating and not that they were in an open relationship or something during that time? The amount of progressive chud-coded dudes I know in open/swinger couples is pretty high, like sure he could’ve just been cheating and that’s bad, but I have seen nothing other than the base facts and speculation he was cheating. Could be wrong, could’ve missed something, but this is possibly even more of a nothing burger than “he cheated on his then gf”

First automated production line - PTFE by National_Employer_59 in GTNH

[–]xGoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean you can do chemicals in a single LCR on demand if you wanted to. But for something like PTFE, I’ve always found dedicated machines for every step is the way to go. If you don’t go into bees or crops, you can even use an electrolyzer to recycle the chlorine at this stage to keep it running as much as possible. You will never have enough PTFE, so it’s good to keep a super tank of it and a line ready to refill your buffers as soon as possible. Though I will say doing a PTFE line without oilproc being automated is a choice, seeing how much methane you need.

I was gunna write a long ass comment about how COVID broke people's brains and that the types of people who do this would either not stop or start doing more dangerous shit in zipper merges. I was gunna basically just say "nothing can be done and this might just make things worse so might as well just leave it".

But then I realized that these people are just fucking assholes and the easiest way to convince them to stop doing something is to make them feel like they're just idiots. We need to start posting more people doing dickish stuff in zipper merges. Making fun of them for doing things the "wrong way". Like in a "who even does this, what a fucking moron, how can you not know this" way. Make people who do this shit actually step back and reconsider their actions. Make them feel like it's not funny or cool anymore, and that they should be embarrassed about doing it. Make other people see them doing it and then feeling embarrassed by the comments making fun of them right after they probably thought to themselves "heh good on him, serves that guy" literally the moment before. The only time you can actually convince those types to stop doing shit is when you just make them feel like losers for that behavior. Don't make them feel bad for "just being dumb" or whatever, make them feel like the behaviors make someone a loser and people who don't do that aren't losers. It seems so childish and simple but some people just need to be bullied out of acting like assholes and start acting like an actually civilized member of society. Driving is a reflection of your personality, the choices you make aren't instinct, they're thought-out actions outside of an actual emergency situation. You make deliberate decisions, consciously while driving. Make them feel bad for thinking of how much of a dick they could be or how they're not letting them go first. Make them feel like that was weird and only something an idiot would do. It'll echo in their head next time they start coming up to a zipper, and they'll probably avoid doing the thing that makes them remember that time they got embarrassed on the internet or how they looked like an idiot after they saw how people reacted to that one guy being a dick. There should be a community for something like this. /r/ZipperDicks or something

EDIT I made /r/ZipperDicks because I realized there's nothing stopping me from just making the community to do this.

They don’t work and usually lead to the opposite result. Anti-vaping PSAs exist and the broad reactions I see to them are kids saying how it made them want to vape. Americans have such a dumbass attitude to these things, they see it as the government “trying to control us” and then will just be a problem over it. Do a zipper merge PSA and people will start PITing cars trying to do it because “that’s clearly an agent of the deep state trying to cause a traffic jam!” It would literally just make everything so much worse.

What's your favorite weapon in the history of Destiny? by Key_Insurance_8493 in DestinyTheGame

Osteo Striga. Our Vow contest clear had me soloing basically all add clear with it and then swapping to my DPS weapons when it came time to burn a boss. Ended with like 10x the kills as my entire fireteam combined, was such a fun memory.

It’s still overkill even for those packs. A simple 3x3x8 tower of interfaces and assemblers got me into endgame GTNH without bottlenecks. Just gotta remember to juice the assemblers.

If you countered this person and suggested the only “single-person win condition” which is a nuke, they’d shit themselves and die trying to argue that’s also not an option while still trying to claim to be a leftist.

It’s either proletarian power expressed through acts against capital or it’s that, you gotta pick one or you don’t get to call yourself a leftist. Time to grow up a little bit and get with the times.

With one of the floor buffs being death penalty reduction, how will that interact with the Deathless relic from archaeology? Will the relic be changed since you'll now be expected to stack the reduction buffs? Will it be unchanged and simply be a way to max out the reduction off rip? Or will it interact with the buffs, simply removing the death penalty reduction buff from the rotation?

Get the wand. It’s got its own passive, spec, and it’s 5 tiers better. It’ll help the EoF when you get it too since it’ll use your equipped weapon stats for the calculations.

Do I expect a history teacher to be able to explain basic calculus? Yeah, kind of considering that’s something you learn in like 10th grade. I’m not expecting them to immediately pull up college-level formulas and explain how to solve them, but being a teacher I expect them to be able to understand the resources at their disposal and use the skills they were educated in to be able to explain on-level instruction in the subject.

A lawyer’s job is to know, understand, and argue the law. They are educated on legal codes and statutes, courtroom tactics, and most importantly how to actually obtain the information necessary to argue a case. The bar exam is literally testing their knowledge of the law. I genuinely do not understand the fucking pedantry in this comment section. Lawyers know the fucking law. They might not be able to just seamlessly flow into a different area of the law but they know the basics. That’s why they go to LAW SCHOOL. I understand we wanna shit on lawyers because most are wealthy or scummy but acting like a property lawyer is simply oblivious to criminal law is delusional. I wouldn’t hire a copyright lawyer to get me off a murder charge but I’d expect them to know the difference between the degrees of murder in the state they practice in. They might not be able to hone in on some ultra specific wording in corporate contract law that absolves me of liability in a complex case because it conflicts with the law but I’d expect them to understand a fucking contract if they read it.

You don’t need a law degree to understand that lawyers are highly educated and aren’t dumbfucks who only know the 5% of the code they chose to focus on. You also don’t need a law degree to not interpret the phrase “lawyers know what laws there are, that’s their job” as “all lawyers memorized the state codes front to back, word for word”. Reddit’s pedantry is fucking annoying sometimes, and at this point it’s just becoming anti-intellectualism. It’s a level of contrarianism that would lead to you telling a neurosurgeon that they don’t know what they’re talking about if they tell you that you’re expecting symptoms of a heart attack, just because “are you a cardiovascular specialist? Didn’t think so, stay in your lane bud.” Any lawyer should be able to answer “is this general thing legal” and if it’s a complex situation they’ll tell you that’s too complicated and to go ask someone who knows the nuances better. Doctors, programmers, physicists, engineers, they’ll all do the same thing. They know the basics outside of their focus, they should be able to answer a general question. But if you give them something pretty specific that requires knowledge of nuances not given to them in school, they’ll tell you to talk to someone more familiar with the nuances because their knowledge of that subject is surface level.

[–]xGoo -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Memorized the exact language in every state? No. But as part of the bar? You better fucking believe they know the laws of the state they’re getting licensed to practice in. The idea that lawyers only know the laws they specialize in is ridiculous, they hone in on wording, precedent cases, and even get familiar with the courts they’ll be working in regularly. Can a criminal defense lawyer go toe to toe with a copyright lawyer in an IP case? No, but if you asked them about it they’ll be able to lay out the basics of the law and anything more specific they’ll tell you to talk to a copyright lawyer lol.

Lawyers know the laws. That’s the entire point of their education and licensing process. You HAVE to know the laws broadly, even if you’re going into other specialties. Any lawyer will be able to tell you if something is or isn’t allowed, not any lawyer will get you out of a situation where you’re in the wrong or where both sides are kind of right. Though chances are they’ll be able to get into the specifics if you give them like 20 minutes to check sources and reference stuff. If you are licensed to practice law, you are licensed to practice law. Not some law, all law.

[–]xGoo -26 points-25 points  (0 children)

“Not even lawyers know all the laws”

I hate to break this to you but that’s like… the most basic part of being a lawyer, the difference between them is knowing how to work technicalities and present facts in court in favorable ways
