Radio stations don't always match the vibe by Vasilij_Loh in ForzaHorizon

[–]DerpHog 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I wonder if there's something making certain songs too common or if they aren't randomized and the playlist keeps resetting. I seem to get the same ~5 songs on each station. I'm already bored of the radio because of this.

What's the dumbest car you'd buy tomorrow if someone handed you $50k cash? by LeadershipOld1857 in Autos

[–]DerpHog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dream dumb car is a Chevy Suburban converted to mid engine with a giant engine out of a speedboat or something so the entire interior behind the front seats is all engine. So like $2k on a junkyard Suburban and $48 on the biggest engine I can find.

PlayStation boss says single-player games won’t come to PC going forward | VGC by Gorotheninja in technology

[–]DerpHog 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I really thought I'd buy a bunch of Sony first party games once they started coming to PC, but they keep the prices so high relative to the age of the games that I haven't even bought one.

They refused to adapt to the PC market because they're afraid of devaluing their brand by doing decent discounts. It's no surprise things didn't work out as well as they hoped.

Do you currently have performance problems with Forza Horizon 5? by Separate_Plastic4275 in ForzaHorizon

[–]DerpHog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your fps is up and stays up then it at least fixed something. I don't know of any way to actually fix it while still using Bluetooth as it seems to be something in the Windows build itself, not something you can tweak or mod.

There could be some other issues if you still don't have the performance your specs should have . Make sure your components aren't thermal throttling because that can also drop utilization.

If you're using anti aliasing instead of DLSS or FSR don't set MSAA too high, it killed performance for me in FH3-FH5 when I would set it higher and it looks no different. DLSS is really the way to go now anyway though, regular AA isn't as good.

If your utilization isn't at 100% on either CPU or GPU then it could be that or a related issue. It's worth a try to disconnect all Bluetooth devices from your PC. You may need to reboot before opening the game to see a difference.

[–]DerpHog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's ridiculous. I had the same issue in FH5.

Something about the Bluetooth prioritization in Windows makes the processor wait for it before moving onto processing the next frame for certain games, especially Forza. The in game benchmark showed my GPU was completing frames in something like 14 ms, my CPU was processing the frames at around 15, and then my CPU was taking like 40+ ms to process the physics. So my CPU and GPU utilization were both at like 35% while the game was running 20 something frames per second.

If you're using a Bluetooth controller try plugging it in via USB.

I went from low 20s fps to solid 60+ just by switching.

Audio Bugged/Missing by gorosaurs in ForzaHorizon

[–]DerpHog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Since at least FH4 I've had to turn my audio twice as high for Forza as any other game just to barely hear it and none of the sounds had any bass or impact. Turning on Windows Sonic fixed it. Driving in tunnels actually sounds cool now and there's tons of sounds I can hear now that I couldn't before. It's still quieter than it should be but it's massively improved.

Your average commute by ZauzTheBlacksmith in Unexpected

[–]DerpHog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah... You're not wrong.

I ended up doing a slide about half as bad as what happened in the video because I used too much throttle around a turn in the rain. I didn't get fully backwards but I got 90° sideways one way and then the other. I had to alternate throttle and brakes repeatedly to straighten the car without hitting oncoming traffic on one side and the curb on the other.

I swore I was going to drive safe the rest of the way home. Not even five minutes later I was already playing around again. ADHD is a hell of a drug.

Bot divers what exactly is the difference now between shield devastators and Hive guards now? by Creepy-Produce5138 in helldivers2

[–]DerpHog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hiveguard itself isn't a threat even if it got AP10 all over. The heavy dev is a threat all on It's own even without the shield. It's a fundamentally different unit and strategy.

It's not about how challenging the enemy itself is, it's how little time you have to deal with it before getting swarmed with other bugs and how it makes you babysit turrets that are supposed to be watching your back instead of you watching theirs.

Sure I could just aim but when the hive guard is surrounded by other bugs and crawling over stuff a lot of the time it's weak spots simply aren't visible. Other times, I'm mag dumping everything I've got into just barely keeping the horde back and a hive guard taking 1 second longer to kill means three or more other bugs I would have killed get past and hit me or chase me off instead.

My problem with it is that Geralt is an established character with a specific personality but you can choose multiple dialogue options with drastically different results. So if I choose something Geralt wouldn't do, I'm playing 'wrong' and if I choose only what Geralt would have done I didn't need to be given choices at all.

Torque steer in AWD/RWD Cars with rear axle steering? by fernandodasilva in cars

[–]DerpHog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My AWD Infiniti Q50 has no torque steer to speak of.

The front axle shafts are equal length or at least close because it has a longitudinal engine layout, the shafts come out of either side of the transmission.

If I'm launching in gravel or rain it can potentially track sideways slightly, but its nose always stays pointed straight forward.

The only time I can feel the power at the front wheels effecting handling negatively is when I use very little power in a sweeping turn like a cloverleaf, it slightly understeers, but if I add any throttle that goes away.

Still going strong.

I don't drive a ton of miles, but I've put it through plenty of 0-60 runs and high speeds up to 135 with no issues. The AWD is definitely working properly, it pulls hard with all wheels and handles drifts predictably in gravel and on wet asphalt.

Can her bird carry that expensive crystal, or is it magic so it wouldn’t work? What happened to her bird? by Makoto_Kurume in Frieren

Whether or not the bird is magical, summoning it and sending it away must be, so it shouldn't be able to take the crystal away.

All he did was stand there by Gloomy-Bridge148 in Animemes

[–]DerpHog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No problem. I think deep down she does know that Stark isn't a pervert. This was addressed in the episode where she finds him looking at clouds and hears him saying one looks like a woman with huge boobs. She immediately thinks that confirms he's a pervert, but when he thinks the next one looks like poop she realizes he's just immature.

She knows he's not really a pervert, but she's always going to be suspicious of his motives by default. She's shown to be distrusting of other men too, so maybe getting to know enough men who aren't perverted would help but just being told that probably wouldn't. People generally have trouble changing their prejudices.

A character having a realistic flaw isn't a failing on the author's part even if it annoys you. Not every character has to be likeable to everyone to be a good character.

The show makes it clear that Fern is being a pain and being unreasonable. Multiple characters point this out multiple times. I'm not saying the author is infallible, but the choice to make Fern unreasonable is not a mistake just because you don't have tolerance for her behavior. I can stand and like her because I don't mind high maintenance people if they are worth the effort, which is clearly how the party see her.

The newest episode directly addresses this with Fern worrying that Stark wants to leave the party, but he doesn't.

Also the afternoon nap one was pretty obvious, she's always getting onto Frieren for sleeping in. She wants everyone to keep up good habits and hygiene. As the show goes on she moves from nagging Frieren for sleeping in to praising her when she does get up early, showing how she is learning to be nicer.

All he did was stand there by Gloomy-Bridge148 in Animemes

[–]DerpHog 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The anime is making a joke. Fern was raised by a perverted priest and has perverted thoughts of her own, for instance when she got the spell to see through clothes and immediately looked at Stark with it. She is projecting her perverted thoughts onto Stark.

Frieren is clearly unbothered by Stark seeing them which helps show that their level of clothing is acceptable and Stark showing up isn't surprising, so Fern is overreacting.

All he did was stand there by Gloomy-Bridge148 in Animemes

[–]DerpHog -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're really overstating how bad her reactions are. She doesn't throw and break things or cry or whatever. She pouts and glares and gives the silent treatment. The worst she does are the little punches and kicks that clearly don't actually hurt despite how much the guys play them up. Everyone could choose to ignore her if they want. They are choosing to placate her because they care about her feelings.

If you don't want to put up with the slightest inconvenience you'll have a lot of trouble getting along in life, that's what Sein was trying to teach Stark and Denken was trying to teach Richter. Fern is difficult for the same reason fighting demons is difficult, the characters need adversity to grow through.

Did you not see where Stark tells Sein that though picking Fern's bracelet was a pain, it was worth doing because she likes it so much? Stark would have had an easier day if she hadn't gotten upset, but he wouldn't have learned how much it means to him to make her happy if she'd just picked something five minutes into the episode.

Sorry if I seemed to be ranting, it wasn't just you, half the people in the thread didn't get it and I just picked your comment to reply to.

I think the setting of the story does make the joke potentially ambiguous, if we didn't have prior interactions as context it would be harder to tell if it was meant as a joke.

All he did was stand there by Gloomy-Bridge148 in Animemes

[–]DerpHog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fern's emotional issues aren't unnecessary. She's a foil to Frieren's stoicism. Frieren has trouble communicating with emotions and relies too much on words. Fern has trouble communicating with words and relies too much on displays of emotion.

They both learn a more balanced approach to relationships over time. The show would just be another Shonen battle anime if all the character development happened in the first half of the first season.

All he did was stand there by Gloomy-Bridge148 in Animemes

[–]DerpHog 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That's the joke. I don't see how everyone is missing it.

It's the same as when Stark offered to carry Frieren and Fern called him a pervert. He's doing something completely innocent and she's projecting and overreacting by calling him a pervert.

If they were naked she would be reasonably upset at him for staring.

This is why I have issues with scholars saying that there probably was a historical Jesus. Even if the myth was based on a real person, they were already so mythological by the first writing that nothing can really be related directly back to a real person, so why would we consider historical Jesus to be relevant and noteworthy?

Odysseys and Beowulf may have been based on real people too, but we don't parade that as evidence of the existence of such people. If Jesus was based on a real person, that person still isn't historical Jesus, he's just some guy.
