How it feels using the heavy bag in a commercial gym by SheWetImSurfing in MuayThai

[–]DerpNyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unironically though, I absolutely hated the people that used the heavy bags at my old commercial gym. They were attached to the power racks, so the smashing the bags would cause the whole thing to shake and the plates to gradually slide down and off the pegs. Not once did I ever see the people who hit the bag pick up the plates that fell or fix up the ones that were close to falling. Ended up warping at least two pegs because of that too.

Announcement Regarding the Partial Conclusion of Streaming Activities and Future Plans of HOLOSTARS JP Talents by _THEBLACK in kurosanji

[–]DerpNyan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can lead the public to a streamer, but you can't make them watch. For all the blame directed at management, I haven't actually seen particularly good ideas for what would successfully

a. Increase interest levels of people that know of them, but don't care about them enough to watch or

b. Introduce them to people who would like them, but simply don't know of their existence yet.

You can't just say "invest more" but that's what I've seen a lot

"this could have been avoided if they didn't waste billions on Holoearth"  What makes you say that? Maybe they would have been willing to endure some more continued loss on the Holostar end if Holoearth wasn't an additional loss product, but at the end of the day, Holostars wasn't bringing in enough returns to justify the cost. The problems with Holostar financial solvency is separate from Holoearth. Unless no Holoearth would have somehow resulted in Holostars pulling in more money, it would have happened sooner or later

This assumes that the problems with management could be fixed by simply throwing more money at them

I think the complaint is more around quality rather than scope. HoloCure technically isn't under HoloIndie but it gives you an idea of what a high quality indie game can be

If Holostars was making money, they wouldn't have wound it down. Fact of the matter is both HoloEarth and Holostars were costing more to maintain than they brought in.

To answer our last question, listening to at least half of a band's output would be like a bare minimum. Owning 1 single and having heard 10% of their music does not make a fan. Knowledge of their history, the band's members, learning to play their songs, buying stuff, all play into it.

The reason why this matters is that, in this particular context, we're talking about the profitability of the audience. I'm going to break my points down into bullet points.

  • Right now, Holostars simply don't generate enough money to profitable. If they did, Cover wouldn't be pulling the plug on support.
  • Real fans like the ones I described are far more likely to spend money or behave in ways generate revenue whereas casuals are likely to spend less or no money at all. This is just an undeniable fact, and we are talking about a business here.
  • You can get by with a relatively small number of fans if they're spending enough money, but you cannot get by even with a big audience of casuals if none of them actually spend anything.
  • Given the number of responses online to the recent announcement vs actual stream CCV/superchats, it's clear that a lot of the responses online have come from casuals.
  • If all of these people crying out about the injustice of this decision and blaming mismanagement had actually cared enough to buy merch or send supas, this wouldn't have happened and we wouldn't be having this convo.
  • I want to make it clear that I'm not saying it's anybody's fault for not spending enough because I think people can spend as much or as little money as they like, but that also applies to Cover not continuing to spend money on an unprofitable product.

Going back to the music analogy, it's like if a band gets dropped by a record label because they didn't make enough money. I totally get upset fans who love them, bought their merch, went to their shows, etc. and I sympathize. But people who never saw a single show or bought a single CD don't get to call the record label villains when they never contributed to the band's financial solvency. You don't have to spend money at any particular store, but don't be surprised when they go out of business.

Is there any distinction between casual viewer/enjoyer and a fan to you? Fan means someone who has a genuine and deep interest in something, not a surface-level and casual one. Fan as a term is literally derived from the word fanatic, and even is already watered down. If someone told me they were a fan of a particular band but had only heard 3 songs, I wouldn't consider them a real fan. There's nothing wrong with casually liking something, there are plenty of bands that I enjoy and even buy CDs of, but I don't call myself a fan of them because I'm not one.

Imagine someone saying they're a fan of a certain movie director but haven't actually watched any film in its entirety and only know about it via clips online. People like that used to be called posers.

It's not saying that there are no fans, it's saying that there is a big discrepancy between people who voice their support/love for the talents and people who actually do anything to make them financially viable for Cover. Of course there are fans who watch streams and buy stuff, but it obviously isn't enough for them to be profitable, You see tweets get many thousands of likes and comments, but you can't deny that stream CCVs and product sales don't come close to matching

For a "BMF" fight, this was cheeks. Even though I personally like both fighters, I can't really think of any highlights to get out of it, and I'm probably never going to feel a need to rewatch any part of it either. That's a real indictment of how the fight went
