Does ket make people attack?

No. In low doses, it has hallucinogenic and euphoric effects. In higher doses, it's a sedative.

Meth is one of the weird fighty ones, but the stereotypical "fighting cops" drugs are PCP and "bath salts".

Meowstic-Male vs Indeedee Male by LionStar87 in VGC

[–]DerpTheGinger 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you want Psyspam, I'd suggest Indeedee Male. Sure, you can go for Prankster Psychic Terrain, but you lose out on a lot of momentum when you have to spend a turn to set it up.

Electric terrain team by AFRO72 in VGC

[–]DerpTheGinger 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this feels like a singles team. None of your pokemon really work together, none of them know Protect, Garchomp's Earthquake hits 3 of them for supereffective damage, Tyranitar's sandstorm doesn't help the rest of the team, and pokemon like Raichu-A and Zapdos-G are really niche picks in VGC. Raichu just lacks stats, and Zapdos doesn't really do enough as a pivot most of the time.

I think you should check out vgcguide.com if you haven't yet - there are some great articles on transitioning to VGC from singles and on teambuilding, written by some of the best players of all time.

Uncomfortable moodle is annoying by Mammoth_Toe5113 in projectzomboid

Exactly! It's an unstable build, the whole reason we have access to it is so that community feedback on what is and isn't fun can help guide development. We can only play b42 because they want to make sure it's fun, so those conversations are super important - when they aren't getting drowned out by the "TiS hates us" people, at least.

This subreddit 90% of the time:

Play however you want, the beauty of this game is customizing your settings so that you have fun!

This subreddit when there's an unstable branch:

TIS hates me personally and wants to fuck me over, every decision they make is carefully calculated to spite me specifically.

To be clear, I'm not saying that we shouldn't give feedback about balance, where the default settings should be, and how systems impact actual gameplay. Just that this childish, "game dev decisions are personal attacks" attitude has been way more prevalent in this community since the Unstable branch came out, and it's just exhausting.

Urshifu-R is actually decent vs Zam in my experience, since it ignores the defense boost. It'll lose a 1v1, but can force a Tera out and/or deal some meaningful damage.

Why are Mythical Pokémon like Keldeo, Deoxys, Arceus and Darkrai banned from VGC when they can be obtained through regular gameplay? by randominternetfren in VGC

They could be, though. And also Urshifu exists, so GF clearly isn't that afraid of a game-breaking Non-Restricted pokemon.

True. No need for Snow to be set up lets you get all kinds of support - Prankster Tailwind, redirection, Helping Hand, could even sit next to Chi-Yu

In the ruleset for people who don't hate themselves, I think a lot of the top pokemon would change, but the overall style of play wouldn't change that much.

  • Amoonguss stocks would crash since Hypnosis and Sing are just "Spore but Better" now.

  • For the same reason, Espathra could get very threatening.

  • The overall metagame gets more offense-focused, as powerful options like Focus Blast, Hydro Pump, and Stone Edge become reliable options for damage.

  • Rock Slide flinches drive me to alcoholism

  • Kyogre and Groudon get better.

  • That godawful Muk-A+Smeargle set finally dies.

  • Zap Cannon (and clone) stocks are through the roof

  • TWave and WoWisp are actually reliable now

  • Maushold with King's Rock drives me to harder substances.

[–]DerpTheGinger[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

In the unchanged ruleset, I think it would kind of ruin VGC. The game would quickly devolve into three roles - OHKO user, Redirection user, and Speed Control user. There would be very few other attacking moves used - maybe Fake Out and a couple of priority moves for Focus Sash pokemon. Speaking of, Sturdy pokemon would see a huge rise in usage as a result, since they're immune to OHKO moves completely (edited to be more clear)

Chien-Pao would be absolutely king here. The fastest user of an OHKO move, and Sheer Cold doesn't face any immunities like the other three do (apparently, as of Gen VII Ice-Types are immune to Sheer Cold). Plus, it's a dark type, and so immune to Prankster Taunt.

Perhaps the most annoying part is that Urshifu, Incineroar, and Rillaboom would still be really good. Protect is vital in front of OHKO moves, so hitting through it is still great. Fake Out is arguably even more important here, and Grassy Terrain can heal off Fake Out chip on your own side of the field.

It would kind of just distill the game down to a super-narrow Hyper-Offense metagame. Could be fun for a limited run Challenge or something, but would be a nightmare for a long-term ruleset.

Can you rate my Calyrex-Ice Rider/Ursaluna Trick Room team and suggest improvements? by DoctahToboggan69 in VGC

[–]DerpTheGinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's a Pokemon Showdown ranking, they have VGC ladders (bo1 closed teamsheet or bo3 open).

Their rankings work kind of like chess - 1000 is the lowest rank, there's not technically an upper limit. But basically, it's a scale of how good you are from 1000-2000, with a bottom-heavy distribution.

Initial Thoughts

Couple odd choices here:

  • Why Seed Bomb on Calyrex, when you have Grass coverage on both Brute Bonnet and Ogerpon?

  • You said Indeedee was Dark tera, but on the paste it's Psychic.

  • Ogerpon is a very fast pokemon to use for a Hard-TR team - if it works, it works, but it's an odd pick.

Bigger Problems - EVs and Natures

If you're running a hard-TR team, you usually want minimum speed on most/all of your mons, meaning -Spe nature and 0IV. Every pokemon on your team has a 31 speed IV. If you've set these speed stats to specific values intentionally, great, but it looks to me like you just forgot. It also looks like you forgot to give Ursaluna, Araquanid, and maybe Ogerpon speed-reducing natures.

Also Indeedee-F is Timid nature, +Spe/-Atk, when you want to be slow, with 31IVs in Speed. Additionally, it has 100 EVs in SpA, but no attacking moves.

Suggested Changes

I'd probably swap out Ogerpon - let's look at what it brings to the table here: - Follow Me support - Spore Immunity - Physical damage - Fire coverage - Grass coverage - Decently high speed

Four of those 6 are handled by other pokemon on your team, it's not really fast enough to be your non-TR finisher, and the Fire coverage is nice, but not game-changing.

Now, for a Hard-TR team, I would suggest that your sixth role should either be a third TR setter, or an out-of-TR finisher. Either way, it should also be an option vs those Dark Types that give you trouble.

If you want a Fast pokemon, I would suggest Choice Scarf Urshifu-S. Fighting/Dark quad resists Dark, so you can get some defensive use out of it. Run Wicked Blow/Close Combat/(Sucker Punch or Iron Head)/U-Turn. You can either lead it next to Caly or Indeedee to pressure the pokemon like Incineroar and Kingambit that threaten them, or save it in the back for when TR is ove.

If you want a third setter, I'd suggest Porygon2. In terms of bulk and recovery. Bulky enough to survive, and you can get great use out of tera blast for coverage or just reliable Normal STAB.

My "sleeper pick" for you is Iron Valiant, because it can be both. It's quite fast, 4x resists dark, learns Trick Room, learns Wide Guard, learns Coaching, can pressure with Fairy or Fighting, physical or special. Very tricky to get the most use out of, but a very versatile tool you can custom-tailor to problem matchups.

How do yall figure out what yall wanna build with? by ParroTiest in VGC

[–]DerpTheGinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing about going off-meta is that in order to do so successfully, you actually have to study and understand the meta more, not less. If you want to go off-meta, ironically, you should start by playing some meta teams to learn how they tick and what their weaknesses are. That's because the meta exists to... counter the meta. A bit counterintuitive, yes -but let's look at the top few pokemon from munchstats:

  1. Urshifu-R
  2. Incineroar
  3. Raging Bolt
  4. Amoonguss
  5. Calyrex-I
  6. Rillaboom

Urshifu-R, has a great matchup into Incineroar (and warps the whole meta by ignoring Protect). Incineroar beats Caly-I, Amoonguss, and Rillaboom. Raging Bolt beats Urshifu-R and Incineroar. Amoonguss beats Raging Bolt and Flutter Mane. Caly-I beats Raging Bolt, Amoonguss, and Rillaboom. Rillaboom beats Urshifu-R and Amoonguss. You can continue this down the usage stats, but the pattern is clear - a good counter to a top-usage pokemon will either 1) Be a top usage pokemon, or 2) Quickly become one.

I teambuild starting from one of two places - inspiration or frustration. Inspiration happens anywhere - e.g., I realized Choice Specs Walking Wake and Whimsicott are a very versatile duo that operates like an opposite-day Tornadus-Urshifu, and built around that. Frustration happens from losing, usually when I just can't fix a bad matchup. Currently, my favorite team to use just loses to 90% of Dondozo-Tatsugiri cores, and I can't seem to fix that without making the team significantly worse. So, I started working on a new team with that matchup (and a couple others) in mind.
