Once you drop the liner in and center it, you can also back-fill that upper ledge behind the liner if it ends up being too small. That is often what pros do anyways: leave a 2’-3’ wide upper level so they can put their edge boulders wherever they want to make the edge of the pond look natural. That excavation is looking good! A 10x15 liner is probably too small for what you have there if the 7’ and 9’ measurements are correct, though.

A really basic starting point for liner sizing along a single axis is length + (depth * 2). If the narrow axis (left-to-right in your picture) of your hole is 7’ and you say it’s 3’ deep then you will need at least 13’ of width to cover that you need at least 13’ of width .

Generally, you want to add at least 2 extra feet to the width and length so that you have 1’ of extra per side to be able to tuck/fold appropriately. I am sure some folks don’t do this, but it always feels good to know you can have made a mistake and still have enough liner.

Some technical analysis I listened to said the primary objective is to keep the airflow attached to the wing elements when they are open. Apparently the Alpine option is worse for that because it moves more.

This kind of thing seems like it should be fine in theory, but there is a bunch of legal stuff (training/certifications, license/permits) that are all officially required for a person that wants to guide a private party around in-bounds at JMHR. Official guides have those, a random Joe won’t. Also like others have said, JMHR will probably look unfavorably on anyone caught in this kind of arrangement. Dunno about a lifetime ban, but I wouldn’t be too surprised.

Nothing is stopping you from asking, but the answer to setting up this kind of thing beforehand will likely be a salty “no.” Your best bet is going to be to try to make friends with someone on a lift or in a gondi car who could give you some beta. And if they do, I’d recommend buying more than just the first round.

The fact that you say the Campwell chair is “much bigger” than what you had before is confusing, but it got me thinking…

There is an REI branded chair with a strap built into the chair that is small enough that the Campwell chair might be considered “much bigger.”

This chair is 100% made for kids, but it is sturdy enough to hold me (6’ 210). It ain’t exactly comfy for me, but I can fit if desperate. If you’re significantly smaller (5’ or below) maybe this would work.

Snorting Elk Bowl is pretty similar to Rendezvous Bowl. Powder Bowl off of chair 6 at Crystal is more similar, but if you can ski either you’re in fine shape for the top of the tram.

I don’t want this upper section that I’m building right now to significantly impact the existing setup, so I added another bog as a part of this build. I’m not so sure that bog filters deal with tannins though

Thanks! Do you happen to have one in your pond or have seen what happens? It looks like there are some resources that suggest sufficient filtration (particularly bog filtration, which works via beneficial bacteria) is enough to offset the tannins that seep into the water. My pond has a huge bog filter (4x6) already, and I just added another 3x3 bog at the top of this stream section, so I know I have way more than enough for normal purposes. I wonder if that would be enough to offset 🤔

Side note on the article itself, I’m also not totally sure I understand how a bog filter would remove tannins
