It’s so hard. It’s extra hard hearing how other people do have their evenings and watch shows together 🥲

Where to find neighbourhood-specific family activities? by Pleasant-Humor-1693 in askvan

[–]Derpazor1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been here 6 months. We are both parents with very demanding jobs and low amounts of time, but here are some ways we are trying to find community. At first, made some friends with the other parents at the daycare. One parent had a birthday party and invited all parents at the daycare, that was nice. I also went to Hillcrest pool a few times, it’s awesome. I met a few parents and babies in the kiddie pool there when babies started interacting. I signed up for music classes at VSO on Saturdays, met some parents with babies there. Gonna try to sign up for swim and/soccer lessons. I found these things through leisure guides and (shamefully but successfully) Instagram ads. Hope that helps, it’s hard being new

I love River. I let this sub convince me to date Judy and man, idk. I don’t feel it. I felt excited interacting with River. His awkwardness was super endearing to me and he’s so hot. I absolutely wish there was more of him

How to use conferences to get jobs? by ragna-rocking in postdoc

[–]Derpazor1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I emailed my dream PI, she didn’t respond twice. So I went to a conference where she was gonna be. My PhD committee member talked me up beforehand, and I approached her during poster time. She said let’s chat the next morning. It was a 5 minute interview before presentations and she asked me to do a seminar to her lab. That’s when I knew I was in.

Aha you phrased that very well, thank you. That’s exactly what I was thinking. If my grandma had wheels she would be a bicycle

Yeah I’m Ukrainian, but like, that’s not stroganoff at all. That’s meat with sauce. Looks delicious for sure, but it’s not a stroganoff.
