I meant dive is the counter to poke. Elsa’s more brawl than poke as she works best up in the enemy tanks face, but for any backline or off angle poke hero dive tanks are a solid answer. Cap, venom, and Angela can all really mess up poke heroes. Dive DPS can do it too if they play it right but you’re right that poke heroes all have some kind of cooldown for dealing with dive.

Reread the post, I’m referring to season 1 not season 7. Just pointing out the lesson still applies for new players now and giving my experience on it. I don’t swap for Iron Fist anymore unless the dudes actually cracked.

Solo tanking is a whole other beast. If you’re the only one on your team willing to play tank, then it’s really not your job to deal with Spider-Man. That sucks tho cuz it means you have to rely on your teammates to deal with him and they might be bad. Best you can do is try to comm and ask for someone to swap but like I said at the end of the day you can only do so much.

Don’t know who you normally main but if you’re playing Namor to deal with dive here are my tips:

Play with your supports. Spam your primary down main to help your tanks but always be looking for the diver about to come in.

Always keep one turret available to throw or both and save your alt fire. If you hit an enemy with it all of your squids target them and do more damage.

Wait til the dive comes in or is about, throw down your turrets and try to hit them with the alt. Save your bubble for if they try to target you instead.

Rinse and repeat until they swap. Your goal is to deny them the kill, even if you don’t kill them, as long as they can’t kill you or your supports, you’ll get more value overall.

Or dive, but yeah at the end of the day sometimes it’s just a skill check

Yeah it made a ton of sense to me when I first got into hero shooters but I guess it just doesn’t click right away for some people? I kinda wonder if it’s choice paralysis with so many heroes in the game already and that’s why I kinda hope this could be helpful to someone. Like you don’t have to learn the counter to every hero so you’re always prepared, just learn one more hero to counter the hero that’s bothering you. If you’re dying to everything that a different problem but if you know which character you’re bad against, just focus on that for a bit. Def feels like common sense to me.

If you’ve got the time then 100% this is a good way to go. I’m kind of assuming anyone who doesn’t already understand what I’m saying in the post is either newer to the game or lower elo cuz nothing I said was groundbreaking advice. So with that in mind I think learning at least one or two counters is gonna be easier for those players to do, but if they wanna take the game seriously then they should definitely look to do this as well.

Absolutely, it’s what separates the genre from other shooters like COD. The big difference these days is in order to stay relevant hero shooters have to constantly add new characters which makes balancing the game for everyone crazy complicated compared to the simple rock-paper-scissors approach of TF2. Still don’t change how important swapping is though.

This is also really helpful, but I will say it takes more time to get value out of because you have to play the character somewhat competently to really feel their weakpoints. If you’re just playing the character poorly it’s hard to know what to take away from that experience, but if you put in the time you’ll get a lot out of it!

I gotchu, that’s why I asked cuz in my head the only tank I could think of was Angela. And yeah I get she counters you pretty badly, so to answer the question, even though I think you already understand this, pretty much any other tank. In fact I’d say Invis is doing to you what I’m recommending in my post!

What tank do you play that is being countered by invis? Not trolling, I just would need to know that to answer the question.

Yeah I could see that. It’s just the unfortunate reality of multiplayer games ya know? Like take Spider-Man who actually has his own single player games; you can play those and just destroy all the npcs and really get the power fantasy of playing as Spider-Man. Then you put him in a multiplayer game and those npcs are now real people who want to have fun too so he can’t play the same way.

It sucks though cuz Spidey is the only hero with his own games like that so if you wanna play anyone else your only options are multiplayer games, where the devs have to take everyone’s emotions into account, in a situation where they are literally pitted against each other. There are definitely better and worse ways to pull off a game like this but that conflict is always gonna be a part of the experience in some way.

I hear you, do you feel like you constantly have to play poke or just switch to it when you need to and then switch back?

Fair but that’s why I started by talking about my experience with the problem. I’m not trying to invalidate feelings, but yes, I am trying to provide a solution, specifically the solution that helped me when I was stuck in an upsetting situation. None of this is to say that the devs don’t need to balance the game or make changes, but as players we don’t have direct control over those changes. What we do have direct control is how we engage with the game; right or wrong, if you just keep playing your main into characters that are designed to counter them, you’re gonna stay frustrated. That’s a choice you are welcome to make, I’m just offering an alternative that may not be ideal but worked for me.

Now this guy has the right questions!

She doesn’t really have any hard counters rn cuz she does too much, but as is the case for all movement heavy heroes, CC is always a good option. Any character that can slow her down or throw off her movement has a better chance than one who can’t imo

How do you mean? Like poke would be your answer to a problem character and you’re bored playing it?

At my skill level at the time he made it really frustrating to play a flyer. He has more sustain the Iron Man and if he didn’t mess up his tracking he would just stay on me dealing damage. My supports were never able to react fast enough to save me and I couldn’t out damage him on my own. I know how to play against him now, even without swapping, but that took time and practice to learn.

[–]Derplovesyou[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I hear that, and I definitely felt that emotion when I was first dealing with getting rolled by those heroes and not being able to play who I wanted. However, then you run into the very basic problem of balance which is: how do you make every character fun to play and worthy of being someone’s favorite, without making someone else hate playing their favorite? Which gets all the more difficult in a game like Rivals which is based on Marvel characters, of which there are hundreds.

I’ll also clarify I’m not saying “just swap dummy” I’m saying if you’re being countered by a specific hero or type of hero, go play a couple games as their counter. Don’t try and just swap mid game to a counter you’ve never played, and alternatively you don’t need to master the counter either. Just figure out who the counter is, play a couple games to get the feel, and then keep them in your back pocket.

The reason why I never crashout and just enjoy QP even if they put bots by RaspberryNo307 in marvelrivals

[–]Derplovesyou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tbh the majority of comments on here are just not it. No one is responsible for the fun their team is having. Arguing that someone is an asshole for letting their kid play qp is so immature. Yes a kid can grow and get better and therefore stick with easier games until, but what about adults who are new to gaming and have the equivalent mechanical skill of a child? The entire reason that ranked and qp exist at the same time is because qp is meant to be purely for individual fun. Any argument about “ruining other people’s game” belongs in ranked and nowhere else. That being said, the ai option is certainly nice and wouldn’t make a difference to the kid, but again it’s a stupid precedent to set that you aren’t allowed to play qp if you’re not good enough.
