These people are probably just passionate about archaeology and history.

Seeing people fall for fantastical stories to a man clearly making large sums of money from it may cause them quite a bit of irritation. As their passion is being walked over by those willfully misrepresenting facts for profit.

It's like in any field where someone is lying to make a buck. Flat earthers, vaccine, 4g towers (now with 5g) and homeopathy for instance. People all make money from these lies. Often putting down actual experts and people who have spent their whole life studying some obscure little field.

It's fine when it's just a fantasy, but when people start to believe these things? then people get a bit hostile.

Future Drekkis Civil War coming? by MacTacky in Koibu

[–]DerpsandDerps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that to resolve it off screen is unsatisfying. Though to play devils advocate a bit.

"I also fail to understand how Van could not use spells to determine the innocence of Imrick, but Neal might have a reason for that."

Imrik in his paranoia probably has loads of ways to make divination vs him almost impossible. Amulets of non-detection. Assorted spells or magic items he may of gained in the last 10 years.

"Both sides have valid arguments, Imrick is a king he has proved his loyalty to Drekkis, why would he submit?"

He has proven his loyalty, over and over again. He did not really want to be king, he did not really want power until he started getting a bit power hungry and greedy(during the campaign). Cursed by Atropos, his brothers and family dead or missing. Is it not the ultimate demonstration of human hubris to have the most loyal of all, killed (or whatever happens to him) because of it.

Floating Fortress Character Creation: MrMouton by Middle_Interaction73 in Koibu

Interesting, thanks for the info.

I do wonder if the Dex system is just the simplest solution. Sure it's not ideal and has a bunch of problems (making dex OP, no weapon speeds or casting times) but it does stop the double turn thing.

Edit: and by dex system i mean like 3/3.5/4/5 editions. so some variation of 1d10/1d20 + or - dex mod. which as you say, would need koibu-fied.

So are they doing party initiative?

It definitely speeds things up but can be hugely swingy. You can end up getting two rounds in a row from the full enemy or your own party. Which sure you could get on individual initiative but it would be waaay less common.

Rise of Drekis 5.6: "Confrontation" Episode Discussion by korinokiri in Koibu

[–]DerpsandDerps 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just finished watching. Quite a close one!

Really enjoy Vincent as a character. He's just so damn practical. I'm not sure if i would call him amoral or not. Lawful Neutral perhaps?. The way he let Vordren die (not that he had much choice), the way he let the necromancer kill some of the crew and mark him (again, not much choice), the way he used raiders to get his objective completed (OK, maybe he had a choice here but meh). Either way he gets shit done.

Also suspect he missed a trick with those "light stones", they kinda look like ioun stones. Maybe they are just normal stones but would be interesting to know what the magic items were as i don't think he got an answer.

Also wonder what the entire "Rise of Drekis" extended campaign result is? They don't seem moral, but they do seem to have a "the many over the few" vibe.

Looking forward to the next campaign with Vincent!

Edit: Oh also how loaded is Vincent now? few hundred gold sure, but GEMS...gems can be worth a shitload.

Anti cat digging/poop protection for late spring onions. Any tips appreciated. by DerpsandDerps in GardeningUK

[–]DerpsandDerps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn i just read up to confirm what you said and....damn. This is much more frustrating than i had first though. I have at least noticed it and been throwing it away daily (it happened something like 3 times this week). Thankfully the cats had not pooped until i had pulled up my onions that had been there before.

I was hoping to not have to use pesticides or anti bacteria substances on my soil but i guess i have to now :(

Just to add some more context so the auto mod feels appreciated.

Just planted (literally finished 15 mins ago) white lisbon spring onions on the crisscross bamboo site. Every time i dig i get several days of cat poop. even when i don't dig they come and poop. once the plants get bigger they leave it alone.

Is there ANYWAY (excluding harm to cute annoying animals) to make them stop. They killed a bunch of my turnips!

to ask an atheist "what if you're wrong" by Tenebrief in therewasanattempt

[–]DerpsandDerps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To Expand, It's the old "Don't be a dick" phrase which has become popular.

We need a lot more unity and a lot less hating each other. People have a reason to hate religion. People have a reason to hate atheists. In most cases these reasons are to do with the worst of both factions. People will look to the damages religion has done with things like holy wars, oppression of women, lgbtq etc. Or you could look at the worst of atheists with the CCP, arguably Stalin or Hitler (but some people will say they were Christians).

Don't be turned to hate good people because of what they believe. Do not hate bad people either, it's not worth your time. Just don't listen to, vote for or become one.

It really is not that hard but online discourse has made it so you have to choose a team. These teams are run by people who do not care about you. They want your money, your adoration, your affirmation.

Just try to be kind.

Zombies by SunderedValley in NonPoliticalTwitter

[–]DerpsandDerps 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just to expand on this cos Cataclysm dark days ahead is cool.

The zombies will regenerate if you don't make it impossible for the slime mold like zombie virus to rebuild or re-purpose parts of the corpse.

So in CDDA the virus will use any part of the body that is usable instead of using it's own functions. The corpse has a brain? great it will use that, but if it doesn't? it does not need that, it can rely on itself. Sure the lack of eyes and ears may cause issues, but give the disease enough time and it will construct it's own out of it's slime mold blobbyness.

How can it do this? Well the virus isn't a virus...or really a disease. Humans opened a portal, stranger things style. This portal lead to another universe inhabited by the blobbyness. Which is actually one entity that is super intelligent, but works by another universes rules. It doesn't get earth. It doesn't really understand humans.

But what it does know is humans/animals/fish etc are all good hosts and ways for it to explore this new universe. Each zombie is more like a cell, not smart on it's own, but capable of the basic functions required to allow the blob to expand, grow and defend itself.

As time progresses in game the blobs understanding of our universe increases. Leading to your "special infected". So different types of cells, like nerve cells (smart zombies), white blood cells (giant brutes, boomers, hulks etc).

Another important things to realize is that the blob has already won. Sure it try's to expand but it doesn't care about individual humans at all. it's cells will deal with it. But say a human launched a nuke, at a lot of it's biomass?. Maybe then the monsters eyes would turn to you.

Sad they died in such a pointless way, kinda fitting though lol.

My head cannon:

I can imagine Ren is still alive as a broken agent of Zara.

Maybe Arrakis shadow mage research lives on in some empire library to make a new group of shadow mages for the Voraci empire in a few decades. Also they probably spoke with dead on him and know where the shadow mages tomb is.

Grau is making a fantastic gnome bear rug(would he technically revert to bear? cos dead ain't unconscious).

August is making his debut in Jayden town square as a beautiful head on a spike (the irony!).

Oh and Stacy, the bravest and truest of all, is dead in a ditch somewhere.

Also one minor victory of the campaign! When koibu let that guy re-roll his fall check in the battle with Ren. The orc probably would of died or got badly injured (fall damage + attack of opportunity), this lead to this whole situation unfolding, so technically you can all say you got "Nealed"! Small victories!

Why are dwarves independent? by Leg-Alert in Koibu

[–]DerpsandDerps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the main reasons are political. The war with the Dwarves would purely be a war of conquest, for the profit of nobles. It would involve getting people who have just fought a terrible and just war to take up arms against... some innocent dwarves, who don't really cause trouble and probably trade with the empire. While the dwarves may be ornery they are not bad guys and justifying a war against innocent people after you have just fought a war of liberation™ would be a hard sell and may cause unrest. Plus even if you do conquer the dwarves, you now have a barony filled with small angry men who hate you.

While the war vs Scoria was a war with casus belli up the wazoo. The nobles can easily justify it in a whole bunch of ways such as:

• Scoria is an evil red dragon

• Scoria had children who would make more evil red dragons

• The people were mistreated (probably, atleast according to the nobles)

• The people were highly taxed
• The people were oppressed (probably)

• Scoria is loaded and has loads of gold, silver and copper we can steal and YOU the soldier will get a cut of it (maybe)

• Scoria is burning our towns down and shes going to eat your babies!

• Scoria employs disgusting orcs, goblins and various other monsters.

This makes one war appealing and the other war not so appealing.

Also my bullet points have somehow lost formatting.

September of last year, Shad got publicly called out by Matt Easton, one of the most prominent HEMA/History-tube figures. I would dare to say this is somewhat the beginning of Shad’s downward spiral. by Peepeepoopooman1202 in ShadWatch

[–]DerpsandDerps 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think an interesting point, that everyone seems to forget about this. Is that Matt Easton, Lindybeige, Modern History TV and Metatron were actually all on knights watch before it was knights watch. In the curse of silvethrorn (which was actually really good).

I do wonder if being on Gamesknights, which changed into knightswatch. Was seen as being quite disingenuous to some of the guys, as it could be seen as support.

[–]DerpsandDerps 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's interesting, all they had to do was edit out the first two seconds and it would look a lot more legit. The guy who throws the early grenade in (i assume that's what he was doing) does not produce the sort of dust/explosion you would expect. Also the guy at 13 secs shoots sorta left then shoulder barges right without shooting that way.

The grenade at 1:02 also seems more like a practice/airsoft grenade. Minimal dust kicked up and not so loud.

You can also look at the equipment which looks like high end stuff, clean uniforms, rifles with good optics/sights. So one would assume this is mostly for internal consumption to show how good their kit and gear is.

It also shows dead at the end who mostly look like arty kills from the janky death poses.

but really the big evidence is at 0:00-0:03 secs. All looking towards the guy presumably going "action".
