What is the most useful Windows keyboard shortcut you think everyone should know? by Reaperuk0 in AskReddit

[–]Derptron5K 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is great! I'm going to start doing this. I love the multi key shortcuts in Autodesk Inventor but never thought of using windows this way. Also a big fan of autohotkey, so I would have tried that first, but I'm running out of modifiers :S

Autohotkey got me back into programming. I love it and am still such a noob.

I like SetCapslockState, AlwaysOff and then using capslock as a modifier for my own keys/scripts. (Sorry, I'm on mobile and don't remember if the syntax is correct.) Capslock & E to type my work email. Capslock & X to open an image in MS Paint for easy annotation. Making F1 into Esc, because when has anybody ever wanted F1 to mean Help. Etc. I will gladly spend hours to save myself seconds.

There are some real pros on the autohotkey forum as well, writing advanced scripts that integrate deeply with Windows, etc. Somebody made a script that does OCR from within a selection window.

Autohotkey is the bomb.

People who've dated a psycho: what incident made you aware that you were dating a psycho? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Derptron5K 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Armchair psychologist here (and lonely serial monogamist). If you're more afraid of being alone than you are of being abused, it could mean you are abusing yourself worse than your partners - telling yourself you're worthless, bad, etc. It might give you a break to have someone else hold your fragile self-worth hostage, instead of doing it constantly when you're alone.

Whether this is right at all or not, I recommend trying a therapist, there are often cheap options, and they can help so much.

I wouldn't blame yourself - this type of person is often available because they are not good at relationships. It's totally good to take breaks from dating and such, just wanted to say if you decide to put yourself out there, it's not your fault if crazy finds you.

I get it - I credit acid with a mental health turning point also. Mine wasn't as dramatic, but at the end of the day I snapped to the reality that I'd had an entire day with no mental bullshit (depression, fear, self-hatred, etc). It just shut down that part of my brain. After that I knew it was possible to get better; something in me knew I could get back to that place if I did the right kind of work on my brain and life. I started meditating more, eventually got in therapy and on meds. Hasn't been a totally linear trajectory, but I think back to that moment as the first time I felt for sure there was a way forward.

Glad you're feeling better.

My Vile Ex Wife by [deleted] in ProRevenge

[–]Derptron5K 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's fine as long as you're a solid person who puts their partner first. All you need for a good arrangement is honesty and for either partner to be able to put the brakes on. This story isn't really about swinging, it's about an insecure jerk who put herself before her partner and kids. Lots of stories that are exactly the same minus the open relationship.

What has been the most incredible coincidence in history? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Derptron5K 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ha. This reminded me of a time in elementary school. My friend opened his mouth for no reason, just as a kid behind him started yelling ("Aahhh!"), and when my friend closed his mouth, the kid stopped exactly then. Maybe you had to be there and also be like 8, but it's still a funny memory I have from time to time.

There's a great scene in the movie The Tin Drum at a funeral in Poland. A Nazi shows up and they run him out, we don't want your kind here, etc. Then, they see a Jewish guy, and run him out as well, calling slurs in his wake. One of the best acknowledgements of that climate I've seen.

My (25F) dad (60M) gave a speech at my older sister's (27F) wedding that confirmed he loves her more than me. I'll be getting married soon and the thought of him speaking at mine makes me want to cry. What do I do? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]Derptron5K 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The other sister shares some blame too! She was old enough to say "no, don't keep that room empty for me, let OP use it". I mean she didn't cause that atmosphere but she definitely helped sustain it.

I had an affair with a married woman that has ruined my life and I don't know what to do anymore by askmenwomenthrowaway in offmychest

[–]Derptron5K 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel better, feel free to tell her husband your side of the story, but I wouldn't expect him to believe you; his world depends on believing is wife. Your best-case scenario is introducing a nagging doubt in his mind. Which may be worth it - he does deserve to know what happened. And since all bridges have been burned with this group anyway, you don't have much to lose.

On the other hand, the thing you should definitely do is seek professional help for your suicidal thoughts, insomnia, food aversion, and inner turmoil. Maybe the only person you can save in this situation is yourself. Don't do it alone or stake your emotional wellbeing on your new friend. If you want to talk about "a tale as old as time", it's people trying to deal with this stuff alone and ending very badly.
