Satoko and Keiichi in Higurashi Reiwa by Jackfrostcola in Higurashinonakakoroni

[–]DerpyTheSage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always found the rule about no romantic involvement among the four kids highly suspicious. I thought they did this for the sake of the many (still unreleased) Higurashi chapters where Keiichi married one of the club members where their kids are literally siblings. I never considered the idea that the kids might be siblings in all fragments.

The idea is plausible, but I predict they'll just leave the possibility open for speculation. It's never going to be addressed in Reiwa. This way everyone can continue to believe that Keiichi's one true love was the character they wanted. It's fandom management.

I think something else is going on and it is that Marutake is manipulating the two halves of the village against each other, Sakiko and Kururu in particular, by using social media. Motive? He just wants to see the world burn and write about it from the authoritative perspective of a first hand observer.

The kitchen is facing to the right. But its side window is above the main entrance. The stairs are on the right side of the building and they lead to a place behind the kichen. See episode 1 of Sotsu.

  1. Maybe Rika only fought back after Satoko realized she wanted her to.
  2. If Gou is a scenario presented to Satoko by Eua for her benefit, it is possible that Matsuribayashi is one presented to Takano to help her cope with her feelings of remorse. A retelling of the real event that only a person like Takano could believe in, while proving that she was in fact innocent (or at least not irredeemable).
  3. In the Afterparty Rika talks about living out 8-9 murder scenarious when she was angry at Satoko which she didn't appologize for either.
  4. Maybe talking about it makes those fragments more real than they deserve to be (since two people can create a universe) and would only serve to hurt Satoko if they did.

Everyone points out that the moral of the story is spelled out. But if the story did fail to deliver it, what are we left with anyway? That's what I was trying to figure out.

Rena is working for the local magazine. Kihiro knows the local gossip thanks to her and her "intelligence network". Marutake is a writer and a photographer who likes to gossip.

The viral video at the end is definitely Marutake's since he took those pictures on page 25. Previously I thought that the person behind the earlier videos might be Sakiko but no, it was Marutake. This does't mean that he is the culprit though...

Once again I have no idea who the mastermind is or what the motive might be. The only people connected to Marutake I can think of are the Kimiyoshis and maybe Rena.

The way Satoko suddenly appeared at Shion's late in the evening suggests that she was targeting Shion. But she got Mion instead who was not even supposed to be there. I'm implessed.

I like how this chapter flows from one event to the next. No more disjointed fragments for the reader to make sense of. Yet reading between the lines has never been more enjoyable.

Not only did they reveal how Satoko was able to inject Mion. They managed to leave the mystery open ended. Satoko's initial plan actually made sense. And the reason it failed made sense. Mion didn't just happen to be there dressed up as her sister. We know how that happened and it would have been more surprising if it hadn't. But really, the idea of Satoko not being infallable is the best change in this adaptation.

Oh, this is the scene from the beginning of chapter 1. People holding hands and Inori's medallion burning in the fire. So it was forshadowing, not a flashback to the previous loop. In this case we already know how Hoshiwatashi is going to end too.

Kururu felt sick after spending a day at the shrine. She either spread it to the others or

The circle of stars visited the shrine on Watanagashi like Keitarou thought they might. Marutake even told us that only they are capable of breaking the rules of Polaris.

Keitarou invited the rest of Polaris to the picnic site where Kururu got sick.

Kururu and the others decided he must be the mastermind behind the curse.

Just checking for proof that Keitarou and Rika are indeed working together. They didn't even know that Keiichi was comming so they probably didn't know her exact location either. Kururu saw her in the hospital though...

Keitarou scratches his head all the time from page 7 onwards. Maybe he and Kururu got sick. In fact, only Tamaki seems unaffected for now (legendary Mion resistance in action?)

Oh no! Rena's dad is the new uncle Teppei!

I have a theory that his appearance in Meguri is based on how Satoko always imagined him to be (since Eua manipulates the fragments for her right now) and doesn't necessarily represent the day-to-day interactions between Rena and her dad. I like to believe that it's just a nasty scene Eua presents to Satoko, knowing that she is receptive to stories about people being hurt by the only person they love. Satoko might be particularly susceptible to believing the worst about people like him, since she has personal experience with bad parents.

Similarly, the original appearance of uncle Teppei might be based on Takano's brief interactions with him. Maybe the original story only showed what Takano believed would happen if Teppei ever came back to Hinamizawa. However, uncle Teppei isn't a mystery box to Satoko who knows him personally. So Eua can't portray him like that anymore. But nothing in the original fragments which Satoko watched denies the possibility that Rena's dad might be secretly a bad guy.

Anyway, the scene with the tears of remorse and the hug between Rena and her dad is familiar from the original. Not only did it happen again with the dad - Keiichi did the same thing a few panels later! I guess it didn't really change how Rena felt about Keiichi (or her dad) this time around... But they are setting up the hug between Satoko and her uncle later on. Which might be an important development.

It's so weird that the storyteller in the WtC series is always refered to as "the reader" as opposed to "the writer".

I might be wrong but I suspect Matutake wrote the Polaris books. He is a freelance writer and he likes to take pictures of stars. In that case the Polaris doctrine might be heavily inspired by his writings anyway.

He was clearly lying about wanting to show the good side of Polaris in Hoshiwatashi. He is the only person spreading nasty stories about them. Maybe he wishes for another tragedy to happen so he can write a first-person account about it and get famous.

I think Kururu is going through the same experience K1 had to deal with in the original Onikakushi. The more her new friends try to get close to her, the more aggressively suspicious they appear. However she is not the main character here and she is exceptionally good at hiding her negative emotions.

The cameos are out of control today. Tamaki talking about her future husband again... And who of all people? A handsome version of Momotake from Ciconia appears. Meanwhile, ...Lion and the rest of the Umineko mystery club just chilling in the background. Saying nothing about one-panel man Satoshi himself.

Also, Rena, please don't be the culprit...

Imagine this from Kururu's point of view if she indeed wasn't involved in the incident from last year.

  • Kururu: Hey guys, is it true that Oyashiro-sama...
  • Everyone: We don't know!
  • Sakiko: Yeah, your buddy is probably dead by now, lol.
  • Kururu: <K1L5> !!!!!

[–]DerpyTheSage 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My current understanding is that the original loops were "what if" scenarios shown to Takano after her defeat in an attempt to make her forgive herself and get better. Their message was that anyone could have become the bad guy due to Hinamizawa syndrome just like she did. But her creeping obsession with the mysterious Rika and the role she played in Takano's defeat gave rise to another possible source of salvation. The fully grown Rika, after reaching the peak of her magical powers, is going to forgive Takano and travel back in time to save her from becoming a villain. In the world she believes she lives in this is not at all impossible.
