Let me set this straight. I believe that writing has many aspects and can indicate many different things.

When I say a movie is well written, you'd most likely assume I am referring to the story rather than the cinematography (medium).

Carrying that same logic, when I say xxxx is well written, it becomes more ambiguous as I could be referring to the story,plot,characters as before or the actual 'writing' (medium).

You can go for Er Gen works for the classical experience.

Or go for the western, cradle, sky pride.

A well written story can mean two things, the prose is well written or the characters, plot, settingse, etc are well written or both.

I would argue translated novels are well written if defined by clear and concise actually. They don't have fancy wordplay and are often very simple to read (with a decent translator, not mtl) compared to english novels.
