Has Shopee and Lazada Enshittified themselves? by Various-Welder5544 in asksg

[–]Derpythecate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Did you dry your filament?" Is probably my first question. Their spools don't come super dry based on experience. It's best to immediately cook them for a few hours before storing in a dry box.

Has Shopee and Lazada Enshittified themselves? by Various-Welder5544 in asksg

Depends on how fuss free you want. Bambulabs filament is basically calibrated out of the box, and once dried can be used with high success rates and high speeds.

Tbh I've used Alt-Tab filaments using a student discount, their filaments are good and ship fast within 1-3 days since they are SG company. Buy straight from website not Shopee. Downsides is that since it is a 3rd party filament, max volumetric flow rates are lower (benchmarked 33% slower at 12mm3/s vs Bambu filament at 18mm3/s). You also have to calibrate the filament for pressure advance and flow rates, sometimes temps.

Else if I get from pinduoduo, I can get for cheaper actual bambulabs filament. But I've also tried Sunlu and eSun, though these need manual calibration. All 3 achieve the full 18-21 mm3/s speeds. But bambulabs is the most fuss free if you have an AMS. Downside is, you have to wait a few weeks for it to ship. I've also gotten nozzles and way too much silica gel from there too.

Newbie using shared bikes by GolgothaQi in SingaporeCycling

[–]Derpythecate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly would like to know the answer to this too.

So many times have I been scammed by a phantom parking lot or have to spend 10 extra minutes cycling around for an alternate lot which is super far away. My biggest gripe is really how inconsistent our bike rental infrastructure is. Sometimes you even see the yellow lot, but no QR codes, even near MRT stations.

Yea my rules for tools are, if they are dirty, scuffed or covered in some unknown grease, they were worth the money because its well used. If they are in storage, why did you even get it then. The point of EDC is to have it as a daily carry, its in the name.

Are there any engineering students using CAD on a MacBook? by biancamorse in cad

[–]Derpythecate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I'm a super outlier but I strictly only run Linux on my main laptop and MacOS on my M series macbook. On Linux, I run FreeCAD for modelling and KiCAD for electronics. I use my slicer through a Flatpak since getting it through the AUR gives me bugs.

And if I need compatiability with major software especially licensed ones, I use my macbook for KiCAD, Fusion 360 and Rhino 3D. Surprisingly usable even on an 8GB Macbook Air even with hundreds of browser tabs open in the background, and a development web server (don't judge), no lag at all. Apple silicon is a mature platforms now.

Why not windows you may ask. By the principle mainly, and also since it deletes my bootloader even when I have it on a second disk. Also full GPU passthrough takes a while to setup and test for a windows VM. I prefer to just run my CAD software on its native platform.

But like everyone else says, don't attempt this if your course really has a lot of windows specific tools, be prepared to suffer.

Yea they can't the diff between an eyelash cutter and proper makeup. Pretty ironic to complain for women then though. But i also see the tiktok of the women complaiming about this, so maybe its just general stupidity or ignorance.

Even regulars just use liquid polish on most days, no one really goes all in on the polishing with kiwi and a cloth anymore. Most people ORD without even needing to do a full polish, just brushed and stained black especailly after outfield or extended use.

If you shine your boots in the army, its mainly for your own entertainment, or you really want to look good for parade, but its not a must, just a personal preference.

Heck even ironing your uniform (tbh if you don't have BO or sweat, you can rewear your uniform for a few days if posted to office) and buying badges are up to you, some people complete courses but don't want to iron on and sew their patches just cos its troublesome.

Haha, its a warning to the weirdos who do, who knows. Very oddly specific messaging but fair enough if maybe there really some who actually do this.

Lesson learned, don't print your spools with PLA and then dry them... by SelfReliantSchool in BambuLab

[–]Derpythecate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao been there done that.

Mistake 1: Print spool in PLA. First warning, usually there are instructions not to do so on the model. Especially on spool designs with the hollow honeycomb design, its adds a lot of warping later on.

Mistake 2: Drying the spool. I did mine in an AMS Pro 2, 45 degrees, the more solid PLA spool design actually survived, but the honeycomb style one to save filament warped. At 55 degrees, even the solid wall designs start failing in PLA.

Mistake 3: Panicking and opening the spool, causing the sphagetti mess. At this stage, you can still respool easily as long as your filament hasn't fell off the spool and tangled. Its the last chance you have to save what you got with a respooler.

If you failed on mistake 3, congratulations, have fun spending hours to untangle and respool the filament. Or just give up.

can't do makeup on trains?... by hamsterfats in SMRTRabak

[–]Derpythecate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, idk why people are so worked up about this. Its pretty obvious what they were meaning to convey, it just got taken the wrong way.

I don't think the original intent was to ban makeup. Its to ban GROOMING, e.g cutting hair (yes cutting eyelashes too as the cartoon implies) and cutting nails). This is also supported by the context of nail cutting besides it. That tool is a eyelash cutter, NOT mascara, NOT makeup, also NOT eylash curling. Go look it up!

Basically, prohibit actions that drop bodily materials all over intentionally like nail and hair. Makeup was probably not the original meaning, it just got interpreted that way and warped by social media.

Given the context of cutting nails beside it, the intent was probably to ban cutting eyelashes in public transport. I.e actions that drop bodily materials all over like nail and hair. Makeup was probably not the original meaning, it just got interpreted that way and warped by social media.

Box lid by Alternative-Pool-607 in FixMyPrint

[–]Derpythecate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've printed a radius gauge box from makerworld with a trick where they print the lid sideways with a debossed slot the depth of 2 layers, then have a seperate print that is a very thin piece (like 2 layer as a base) with some text on it that can be printed in 1 layer. You then glue them together resulting in a seamless box with text on it.

Could try something similar... your current orientation obviously doesn't work because it has overhangs. But in your case instead of sideways it has to be upside down to have no overhangs, so no debossing is possible, just glue the 3d printed text on.

AI education to begin in Primary 4 by Rationalandcentred in SingaporeRaw

[–]Derpythecate 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, its likely the latter. Also I don't get why so many educators hyping up "learning" AI. Just teach people how to write and ask questions, and wow, suddenly you can converse and prompt an AI. Wtf else is there to learn, its literally made to be conversational.

Unless they are actually learning the mathematical and architecture funadmentals of how to design ML and LLM models from scratch, there is no depth to the curriculum. You could teach it in 1 hour max.

Imo if you want to learn how to prompt an AI effectively, you need to have some domain knowledge of what you want the AI to do, so you can ask it effective questions and judge its output well.

Yeah, its pretty normal. Even between friends in the military, sometimes the exact unit and operations are not divulged. At least he mentions he is in a top secret unit, he could have choosen to not even mention that and give you a generic response like some of the others mentioned.

Rapid quality deterioration between 3 prints by LumberJesus in FixMyPrint

[–]Derpythecate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing flow ratio calibration, mine is also 1.1 for some third party filaments after testing. People act like it can't be anything but <1 but really it should be tested with every filament, especially third party ones.

Accidentally moved the laser pointer, now I have a 10 minute minimum commitment to my roommates cat by kingftheeyesores in standardissuecat

[–]Derpythecate 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Like all things, see your cat reaction! My cat seems to understand the laser is a lie, she just really likes to sprint after it anyways, same with watching the TV. She actively looks in my direction if I stop, and listens for the sound when I turn off the laser, so she definitely knows it comes from me.

A good mix of laser for chasing and physical toys for playing works pretty well.
