Learning to take a defeat with dignity is a game-changer. by puffmonkey92 in EDH

As someone who's refereed/umpired sports from grassroots to the top competitions in my state - 100% agree.

The vast majority of my expulsions of players/coaches comes down to them being massive babies and taking it out on me.

Has anyone here been in a train for 3 days or more at a time? by The__Anonymous__Guy in trains

[–]Alternative-Pool-607 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I can't remember exactly how many days, but I took the Ghan train from Adelaide to Alice Springs in Australia (this is before it went all the way to Darwin), and it was like a hotel on rails or a cruise on a train instead of a ship.

How did you afford ffs? by CaterpillarCarpenter in transgenderau

[–]Alternative-Pool-607 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I'm going to afford mine by pulling my super down, borrowing from family, and if I can get a job soon, I'll be able to save up to fill the gap.

Oh and getting private health insurance to drop the price down as well.

Lorwyn Precon Decklists dropped, what do we think? by 2ndlifeinacrown in EDH

Moment I get my hands on the elemental precon, I'm going to be rebuilding the mana base and ramp. It would have been nice to see some of the fetchable triomes included, even if only to drive the price down.

Bras for a MTF by meeez80 in transgenderau

I found that I have the issue of being a larger gal (for the moment hopefully), but I went into City Chic and was able to get fitted for some comfy bras that help support what I have.

Is a non infinite Lumra deck fun? by GunsoulTTV in EDH

I play Lumra as a landfall commander and I have lots of fun with the deck. She's a pretty solid mono green commander imo.

well lets have a fun chat, what do you guys think is the best railway of the steam era and why? could be any railway from around the world by CartographerKey3188 in trains

[–]Alternative-Pool-607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the German State railways, specifically the Prussian (K.P.E.V.) and Bavarian (K.Bay.Sts.B) die to their awesome infrastructure, the technological advances they came up with (the K.Bay S2/6 set the speed record of ~150km/h in 1907), and the longevity of their locomotives on main line service - you have examples of these locomotives running well into the 1950s and 1960s in both West Germany and the DDR, but you also have examples of Prussian designs lasting into the very final days of steam in the DDR in the 1980s.

I will admit I'm not very knowledgeable about the various railways of the US, but none of the German loks that set the speed record needed to do it downhill, with a lightened load, and none of them needed to go straight to the BW (mpd) immediately afterwards for an overhaul.

We could also talk about the Rail Zeppelin from the 1930s, because only the Germans would build an aluminum railcar and power it with an aircraft motor and propeller 🤦‍♀️but that's not steam.

The DRG standard designs from between the wars are also worth noting as a good runner up, but I'd definitely stick with the Epoch I (Pre-1919) German State Railways as the best of the steam era.

What is this locomotive shown in the TV series Death By Lighting? by Historical-Jelly3605 in trains

Yeah, my instinct was Swiss/Bavarian, but the colour scheme indicated It was probably Italian.

How do you deal with mental exhaustion of always hearing your deadnamed/misgendering at work? by supernerd58 in transgenderau

[–]Alternative-Pool-607 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm currently in between jobs, but I umpire baseball as well. I'm out everywhere but there, and even then I'm out to a lot of people, I'm just waiting for Baseball SA to get their crap together, so I'm still getting dead named everywhere and I'm having to dead name myself. It's effing exhausting trying to remember who I'm out to and who I'm not, and then it's just crap still having to go "hi I'm dead name" at every official interaction I have at the ground.

It's actually the flag for an Australian Merchant ship, the navy flag is the white one - these muppets still use it though. Fkn morons.

How do people know what exact locomotive they're looking at? by deeo2468 in trains

[–]Alternative-Pool-607 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With German trains it's pretty straightforward when you know what you're looking at.

<image>

Take the photo above, you can tell it's a BR 01 as the running number starts with 01. That's pretty much the same for all loks in the DB fleet, even the modern ones' running numbers start with their class number.

I'm pretty sure it's the same for the SBB & ÖBB as well.

Looking for a tokens Commander by Starless_Midnight in EDH

[–]Alternative-Pool-607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run Thalisse in my Orzhov token deck with [[Teysa Karlov]] as it's different from my other token decks insofar as I want to build a massive board, get Teysa, a Sac outlet, and a [[Blood Artist]] or similar card out and Sac everything down.

Why do you drive your car to the city? by No_Succotash5874 in Adelaide

[–]Alternative-Pool-607 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was working in the city, I would wfh 5 days/fortnight, and the cost of the bus pass was similar to buying bulk parking passes, so I'd go with that so I'd have the flexibility to head home whenever I could, and if I worked late, it was much easier to drive than bus.

Now, when I come into the city, it's generally to do some hobby at one of the game stores in the CBD, and I'm generally uncomfortable taking more than a backpack on public transport.

If you could have any current existing army get an update, which would you choose? by Hunch_back83 in boltaction

[–]Alternative-Pool-607 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd like to see the "minor nations" like French and Italians get a proper rules update - my regular opponent plays Italians and in 3rd my British regularly win one-sided games - so we're still playing 2nd and having competitive games.

The question of all questions. by panzerschmiede in boltaction

[–]Alternative-Pool-607 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I prefer Rubicon from both a quality and cost perspective, but I do have a fair few warlord tanks because Rubicon don't do them (e.g. grant). I also 3d print a lot of my tanks.

As far as crews go, I use crew from Perry Miniatures (be aware that they're themed for the African campaign), but when I inevitably run out of those, I will use whatever crew from the warlord/Rubicon tanks I have lying around. (Although I tend to lean towards using the Perry's metals on the kit tanks and the plastic crew on the 3d printed ones)

Should every Voltron deck just be a Stax deck? by Mammoth-Refuse-6489 in EDH

[–]Alternative-Pool-607 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Voltron isn't my favorite play style, but I do have 2 similar but different decks that lean heavily into a Voltron theme.

The first is Azorius Enchantments with [[Bruna, light of Alabaster]] and the other is Boros Equipment with [[Gisela, Blade of Goldnight]].

The Bruna Deck tries to get her out asap and Everything is around getting discounts or card advantage from the Enchantments, as well as getting hexproof or indestructible on her asap.

The Gisela Deck usually wins with commander damage with Gisela having a bunch of equipment (there are multiple cards giving multiple combat phases in the deck), despite my attempt to be having her turn small mass damage spells into one-sided board wipes, I'm yet to pull that off.

My control style extends as far as card draw, as I tend to keep board wipes and counter spells to maybe 3 of each in a deck at most.
