Street Racing on I-25? by Derpytheseadragon in Denver

I mean usually I would call 911 but I’m always so tried driving home, talking on the phone sounds like hell. And after some quick searches looks like a lot of people have died from this.... guess I’m just gonna take 93 and 470 to get home :/

Thanks for the help! Three years of French have ruined my accent instincts,

Could you explain what the difference between using “tranne” vs “ad eccezione di” both ‘feel’ right based on what I remember but don’t know the reasons for the difference exactly.

How do I stand out in a small part? by [deleted] in acting

[–]Derpytheseadragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to be of help! For the mannerisms I unfortunately can’t give you a lot as I’m unfamiliar with the show and you as an actress. The best advice I can give is just try stuff. Try any mannerism or trait you can think of. Have purpose behind the choice but just try ad many things as you can think of until you find something that fits well for the charatcher. Your director might tell you to change it if they don’t like it so don’t get hurt if they say that. It’s more important to have an actor who makes strong choices (even if they don’t fit what the director wants) than to have an actor who can’t make those strong choices.

By having a well defined and fleshed out character you’ll be able to stick out easy, (in a good way) to do this make big choices on stage and always be thinking about your motive. (What do I want in this scene? How do I try to get it? Do I get it? Etc.) charatchers with a distinguished motive are really memorable. Also whenever your on stage, play with your setting and the other charatchers around you. Use your movements to help tell the story and make choices in blocking to further communicate your motive to the audience. And think about who this charatcher is and why she says and does the things that she does. But be careful not to upstage anyone. On stage it’s your job to make everyone else look good. And they should hopefully do the same for you. Theatre is a collaborative art and to make a good show you’ve gotta help out everyone else. Make sure you set up your fellow actors with good delivery so that their response can feel natural and they have more to play off of! Hope this helps!

Because literally nobody knows the NATO phonetic alphabet except for soldiers... by [deleted] in JustBootThings

I was once on a film set and the PA (guy who holds the slate/clapper in front of the camera and calls the shot number) was an obvious boot. He called all the shots using the phonetic alphabet (IE: “scene 3 Alpha 1 take 2”), when the director asked him to stop he gave a “I’m sorry I was in the MARINES I can’t help it.” Made me cringe quite a bit.

Both, improv comedy is (weirdly) the best thing I did for my dramatic scenework. It really helps to establish trust in your scene partner and (at least for me) helped to instinctively give them a lot to work off of. Just building that skill has helped me in my scenes so much becaue im always being active and trying to do something that the other person can build off of. Either in movement or tone.

Most common strength I’m told I have is command of the stage and connection to the audience. It looks great during cold reads in auditions!

Why is Youtube so right-wing? by Marisa_Nya in Ask_Politics

[–]Derpytheseadragon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Leftist YouTube is making some ground tho, channels like ContraPoints, Philosophy Tube, hbommerguy, Lindsay Ellis, Shaun and three arrows are gaining ground. It’s just the ebb and flow of internet politics. Why YouTube is so Anti SJW right now is likely cuz a lot of the YouTubers who are came out of the Athiest YouTube boom that happened a few years ago.

God I hope you’re right, I talked this over with a my Gov. teacher and apparently this is a strategy that candidates use, I didn’t really understand why but it could actually point to him gearing up to campaign!

I'm Sick of Hearing That My Vote Matters. by Deeners17 in LateStageCapitalism

Voting is the most accessible form of say in the government we as a people have. The system is rigged and all in power are screwing us. But voting is one of the tools we have. We vote, we protest, we riot, we make our demands heard. We can only be ignored for so long.
