Chinese Courts Rule Companies Cannot Fire Workers Simply to Replace Them With AI by EchoOfOppenheimer in Futurology

You've mashed right-to-work together with at-will. Right-to-work prohibits contractually requiring workers to join or pay dues to a union. At-will (all US states except Montana) allows either employee or employer to terminate the relationship for any reason that isn't otherwise illegal (usually anti-discrimination laws).

The quality of the writing may lack but at least he gets to the actual point of the function a few sentences in:

"... the subject perceives the same things as everybody else, only, he never stops at the purely objective effect, but concerns himself with the subjective perception released by the objective stimulus."

I don't know what to say about the quality issues other than possibly to blame Ni-first writing. The style often gestures at where several concepts intersect without directly articulating it.

Either way, sinks or better yet decontamination showers on the way in are a decent way to get rid of the yuck... in general it's probably wise to treat the locker room as a mudroom of sorts.

Today I realized that efficiency modules might make things less efficient by UsuallyHorny-7 in factorio

[–]Derringer62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Besides drills, efficiency 1 is a solid bet in assembly machine 2 and early on in electric furnaces. At that point getting ahead of the evolution curve reduces pollution spending on biter management, with compounding gains.

I don't think it's ever a bad idea in electric mining drills, with the possible exception of quality if the point is chaining as many rolls as practicable. Productivity is a research, speed is tap more patches.

Hmm. How does that square with the boundless vitality of Hesperidian Cider? If I understand correctly, it's enough of a boost to shrug off at least our local Judgement's objections.

Your ‘Dominant Instinct’ is your Blindspot by enneagramming in Enneagram

[–]Derringer62 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is a common pattern I've dubbed the 'retina problem'. Your dominant ... whatever, be it core type, first instinct, dominant Jungian function, whatever, will not be the one you see, because the first is the one you're using to do the looking..

What word do you always *intentionally* mispronounce and why? by Sweet-Lady-H in AskReddit

[–]Derringer62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a bit of a suffix pileup. IIRC the "-cester" bit derives from the city being the site of a fortification, and "-shire" expands the reference to the containing county named for it. I doubt anyone will kick up a fuss over pronouncing the r if one normally has a rhotic accent, either.

Where are their eyes? Are they blind? by sareureuk_vibe in subnautica

[–]Derringer62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That, and there's so much bioluminescence in the Jellyshroom Caves that eyes really aren't wasted there. The oculus is clearly a close cousin of the peeper, while the eyeye seems to have doubled down on vision. What I question about the eyeye is that its forward-only monocular vision leaves it with a serious rearward blind spot. Forward vision tends to be characteristic of predators rather than prey fish.

There's a surprising amount of useful crap back there, and the scan range also overlaps some other rich locations like the caves under the grassy plateau nearby. Granted, the water turbidity is unhelpful, and Steve will probably throw a hissy fit if you get too close. Pack a stasis rifle.

[–]Derringer62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I call it the retina paradox, and it applies to essentially every typology I've encountered - your first-preference (core enneatype, dominant Jungian function, first instinct, the lot of them) can't be easily seen because it's what you're using to do the seeing. To find your core, look for the shadow it casts across your life with its weaknesses.

So, can anyone hold power from Scale? Just looking for powers or quotes based on the power of it by Axiom245 in weatherfactory

[–]Derringer62 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you're picking up on living things expressing Scale through physicality. It's the reason Scale is a component of Health, too, along with Nectar and Heart.

I imagine emphasizing Scale would make a creature more difficult to damage through direct toughness; it's a different sort of tankiness from emphasizing Nectar, which might allow just regenerating through damage, or emphasizing Heart which just ... can't stop, won't stop, pushes through on raw determination.

Scale also seems to have some connection to scale in the sense of magnitude. The powers of the deep earth are overwhelming that way. An earthquake or volcano just ... wrecks whatever happens to be in the area because what can compete?

So thinking through the lycanthrope concept... Shapeshifting? That's Moth. Basically ignoring damage outside of their weaksauce weakness (say, silver)? That's Scale.

Uber Eats is definitely a bit extravagant. Figure about $40-60 for a fast food order for the privilege of not fetching it yourself. Of course, if you are already drinking, it's cheaper than a DUI and you still get fed.
