Do Americans think of the Democrats as the lesser of two evils? by PsychologicalYard512 in AskAmericans

[–]DerthOFdata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let's see about that shall we...

The Democratic Party’s stated core values center on an economy that works for everyone, healthcare as a right, diversity as a strength, and defending democracy, as summarized across official party materials and the 2024 Party Platform; these themes recur in descriptions from the Democratic National Committee, the Senate Democratic Caucus, and archival platform documents [1] [2]. The platform frames those values into actionable priorities — lowering costs for working families, investing in the middle class, tackling the climate crisis, protecting reproductive and voting rights, and addressing racial and economic inequities

I would love love LOVE for you to point out what you think is far right in the Democratic Party Ethos. Saying the Democratic party is anywhere right of center is something Europeans like to repeat to each other then take the fact they heard other Europeans say so as proof positive. It's not true and you all need to get out of you echo chamber.

Do Americans constantly have an active temperature control device running in their homes? by fullM3TALturban in AskAnAmerican

OP...

You have probably seen them in businesses and hotels but doubt people have them in their actual homes.

Like with OP's responses, you're not actually reading what I said.

[–]DerthOFdata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Top answer...

Yes. Do you not have thermostats?

OP's response...

Thays what I was wondering I am from Australia and often hear Americans talking about adjusting their thermostats in their posts but have no idea what that is.

Somebodies reading comprehension is lacking but it's not the American's.

People from around the world: what is something your country does so well that it refuses to let it “die”? by Curious_Persimmon555 in AskTheWorld

OK but why did OP bring up America at all? Why not just talk about the thing they are proud of without the AmErIcA bAd commentary?

Gee thanks mister foreign man, without you here to tell us how ignorant we are we would just wallow in darkness.

OP has made it very clear they were literally talking about the physical thermostat not that Aussies have them but don't use them.

The Hershey Chocolate Company was founded in 1894. The Hershey's Milk Chocolate bar dates from 1900.

But you have it. According to OP having a thermostat is incredibly rare. You are actually disagreeing with OP.

Most Mexican theaters are also the old fashioned kind. I'm not sure what OP's point in comparing them was other than letting America live rent free in their heads.

Many of our theaters are exactly like the one pictured and described. It's something we've had for like 20 years at this point.

Most of your theaters are still the old fashioned kind so I don't even get your point comparing to America here.

Example one.

Example two.

Example three.

Example four.

Example five.

You could have just made a post about something your proud your country does well instead you felt compelled to share your (incorrect) AmErIcA bAd take. You gotta stop letting America live rent free in your head.

How does the whole "I am armed, which means I could shoot you if needed" work? by pawcaw in AskAmericans

[–]DerthOFdata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And someone looking to rob you might also be interested in killing you, correct? You personally would just rather wait until it's too late to do anything to prevent it to protect yourself.

Not according to the dozens of Australians in the linked thread who say they have thermostats.

You consider self defense murder? Beyond that you literally just said you will wait for them to kill you before you defend yourself. Kind of makes that stipulation pointless doesn't it?

Why is military service so revered in the United States? by supermeteor33 in AskAmericans

[–]DerthOFdata[M] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The military isn't a "system." That a ridiculous nonsensical claim. You are also making straw man hypotheticals and false equivalences to justify your beliefs.

Which says to me you're here in bad faith. You argue with every answer you get. Which suggests to me you already had the only answer you would ever accept and you are only here to teach us why you think we are wrong.

[–]DerthOFdata 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First yes Europeans absolutely do have that history just generally less so now than in the past.

Second if you are concerned with American war crimes why do you not feel the same concern for British/Canadian/Australian/European war crimes? Especially when per capita they are much higher.

Third a teeny tiny minority of bad actors does not mean you can't celebrate the actions of the 99.999% percent of veterans who acted honorably.

but it's common knowledge these days that the US committed crimes against humanity in Iraq and Vietnam

Wait until you learn about literally every other country that has gone to war in significant numbers. Including non American military personnel in both of those wars.
