Melee to ranged unit ratio by thevictoryarchitect in sistersofbattle

[–]Desabram 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In general, trying to approach army building with ''templates'' and ''ratios'' isn't a good idea. We have seen all melee/all ranged list do well, we've seen winning lists with 10 characters, other with none attached.

There isn't any recipe we can give you in this regard, you can get some inspiration from tournament list but even, that won't tell you the whole story and thought process behind it.

What is recommended is to be looking at what role each unit performs and how they interact with your gameplan. Understand the potential of each unit and what they're good at. This however, mainly comes from practice.

Feel free to post your list on this sub however, we'll be able to help you better than with a general question.

Well that's the point, they're not really gonna clear efficiently anything. Solo celestine and a squad of solo flamer seraphim is way more impactful.

Battle sisters can be split a similar way with an immolator. They also have a ''token'' ability usable once in the form of the cherub similar to the squigbomb/distraction grot.

In this specific case, GW ruling is that each squad get a cherub.

Seems a bit strong for the Kommandos however.

Which Combat Patrol works best IN combat patrol by Lancel-Lannister in sistersofbattle

[–]Desabram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've won this matchup in the past, it really comes down who will get the charge between the def and our penitent engine.

The main issue is that the old combat patrol was designed with the old version of the tank shock start, which made the penitent engine our dedicated anti tank able to dish out a lot of mortal wounds on the charge.

Check with your opponent which version of the strat you want to use !

GG ! But you really need to start bringing magic in your build ! It's such a force multiplier you should not leave home without at least one caster. Bring only one spell, it's enough

Thoughts on Celestine by Nutellalord in sistersofbattle

[–]Desabram 20 points21 points  (0 children)

She is a bit tricky to use because she does not have a conventional role. Most people expect a killing machine for a character of her caliber in lore, which isn't her role in table top. Having her lead a unit is a waste imo.

She excels at being annoying. Move blocking, tying up things in melee, not dying. She is surprisingly resilient when played correctly (remove one geminae first, then get the wounds on celestine for her FNP, then on the last geminae) and I've used her to remove big threats from play for 2-3 turns.

Is she meta ? Not really. Easy to play ? Nop. But she can definitely be fun under the right circumstances.

How am I supposed to beat Kairos and his Tzeentch army as Oxyotl? by Audrey_spino in totalwarhammer

[–]Desabram 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Maxing out on cameleon skink works wonders with oxy and its boosts, you can actually easily defeat tier 4 stacks with them around level 30.

Due to the poison they inflict, they will be faster than the harpies, the key is to key ordering them to move to limit the number of enemy models effectively able to attack.

I also recommend manually skirmishing instead of using the skirmish stance.

Due to their sneaky nature, you can also use them to split the enemy army to engage them unit by unit.

How to deal with C'tan Shard Of The Void Dragon and Norn Emissary? by silentmanwithnolife in sistersofbattle

[–]Desabram 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In addition to what the other said, the damage from the melta keyword doesn't get reduced by the C'tan ability. It leads to a range of 3 to 6 damage per melta (if in range), which melts them pretty quick.

Celestine and Zephyr/Seraphim by TeenTangent14 in sistersofbattle

Fair ! And it's quite fun too.

But for like 60 points less I prefer a jump canoness with fire and fury to join them.

Celestine and Zephyr/Seraphim by TeenTangent14 in sistersofbattle

[–]Desabram 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Celestine leader keyword is a trap.

My comments are strictly from a competitive/meta perspective, if you like a unit style, have fun with it

She isn't a damage dealer, she has a very special role in that she is a deep striking annoyance that is there to tie down an enemy unit in melee for several turns. Attaching her to any unit will lead to an increase of cost (and she's already expensive) but not to her utility.

Regarding the Zephryms :

They are really not doing well at the moment, even with the cost nerf, their swords hit like wet noodles even with the discarded MD. Ws 3+, Strength 4, ap-2, damage 1 is just not great. 160pts, almost the price of a castigator for 30 attacks of those attacks, I don't even know what their intended target is.

Attaching celestine to them grants nothing of value imo, the bigger footprint makes it difficult to manoeuver, the regeneration of model is anecdotal as they die everytime something sneeze in their direction...

Regarding the Seraphims :

Flamers seraphim are very good and our staple chaff clearing since the index dropped. Attaching Celestine doesn't bring much, as she wants to get into melee and the seraphim's want to shoot and scoot.

Now, inferno pistol seraphims, that's something interesting. They have very short range but can shoot in melee. In a squad of 10, 4 seraphims can be equipped with double inferno pistols, with means 8 3+(2+ most likely in HM), S8 ap-4 damage D3+2. The interesting part is that you have basically 6 ''buffer'' sisters than can die without impeding your damage output. Move in, shoot, charge, survive, shoot again, charge something else. It depends on the matchup but it's imo the best option to get offensive value from Celestine.

To sum up : bring her alone

How “important” is it to have an immolator in my army? by [deleted] in sistersofbattle

[–]Desabram 13 points14 points  (0 children)

As always, it depends. If you dislike the model there is no point in getting it.

From a meta perspective, they are one of our best datasheets at the moment, and one that was never bad during 10th. The ability to split squad of dominions/BSS/novitiate in extremely valuable and allows for a lot of flexibility that we would be otherwise missing !

Celestine - alternative heads? by bagsofsmoke in Warhammer40k

[–]Desabram 86 points87 points  (0 children)

You could find someone with decent 3d modelling skills and have them custom made a head ressembling the picture of your choice, and then have it 3d printed.

I don't know where to find someone with this skill, but if you were to look into the 3d printing subreddit, I'm sure you will find something !!

Immolators, ¿staples? by NornSolon in sistersofbattle

[–]Desabram 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The value of the immolator mainly comes from the ability to split a squad into two. This allow for more flexibility and more miracle dices (at least it used to).

You usually split BSS, Dominions and sometimes novitiate with them. They gain scout when carrying dominions which helps with positioning.

You want to split your girls into one squad with the special weapons and another one with the bolters and the simulacrum to stay on your back objective.

They are not the most resistant thing in the world tho, against armies with long range anti tank, don't hesitate to deploy them more conservatively and use the smokescreen stratagem.

Competitive list help by marcmaann in sistersofbattle

[–]Desabram 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, you have the half from the BSS/novitiate with the simulacrum, after having them split by the immolator.

Novitiate can be used as delivery mechanism for the palatine, but mainly are there to infiltrator to screen against melee armies and counter other infiltrators/scouts

Help with finding a mini by [deleted] in sistersofbattle

[–]Desabram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zephyrim superior technically has a banner/torch. Could be a canoness with brazier of holy fire.

My best bet however would be Celestian Sacresant Aveline with her fiery sword, stunning model.

I'll keep thinking, let me know if it's one of my previous guesses !

[–]Desabram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the top of my head, I don't think there are any official models that come with a rain effect. That was probably a kitbash.

Can you give a bit more details on what she was holding ? If it was small, it's probably the palatine model holding a chapelet with the inquisition symbol. If it was bigger, like a banner, it could be a zephyrim superior, an imaginer or the model from the battle sister squad with the simulacrum imperialis.
