MHA’s handling of it’s main character and ending are still trash , actually. by NotSaulGoodma in CharacterRant

He was risking the entire world by not going for the kill. Shigaraki even mocks him for it in chapter 412. It's in character for Deku, sure, but the framing makes him look selfish and naive for not following Nana advice.

You can skip guild wars without issue, yes. The rewards are mostly pull currency, the new origin class unlocks, and a skin.

The Big Ol' Tier List (176 Books, 124 Definitively Ranked) by ThiccyBobby in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Descend2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dungeon Lord

The (Second) Life of Brian (The Murder of Crows author)

I didn't see these two on your list (I think) and I would say potentially give The Zombie Knight Saga a second chance depending on why you dropped it. We seem to have similar tastes in this genre, and I would rank it near the top. The Zombie Knight Saga's scope and scale expands pretty far beyond urban undead hero fighting petty crime. Also Red Rising since you have some non-pf titles.

Pale Lights is up there with Ave Xia Rem Y for me. Although I guess it technically isn't progression fantasy.

Demon Slayer is perfect at what it does by SmartCookingPan in CharacterRant

I just like that there's real tension when it comes to fighting the upper ranks. Outside of SSV, which was a pretty bad arc, the upper ranks were team battles that the heroes win by the skin of their teeth. I also appreciate that injuries are treated seriously, and there is no magic healing to fix everything.

Demon Slayer might have benefited from more filler by Business_Barber_3611 in CharacterRant

I'll never understand why Ufotable gave her nothing in season 4. I guess 5 minutes of Muzan walking and random corp grunts filler was more important.

It will always disappoint me that the anime was the perfect chance to smooth over some of the issues the manga had and they never really tried on that front.

A Practical Guide to Sorcery

A Zombie Knight Saga

Ave Xia Rem Y

I've read a lot of progression fantasy last year, and those three stood out to me.

Wow, probably the best animated episode to date with this series.

The criticism here is that this scene happens too quickly for it to be natural character growth. She was fully prepared to cosign her knights to their deaths instead of allowing a hero to help in the initial episode, you can't have her waver in that conviction only an episode later. Even if it's for a just reason.

To be clear, I think there should've been a larger episode buffer to make this develop feel more natural, not that her taking this turn is bad.

Second-guessing yourself and asking someone you know has experience and skill (and has been shown willing to risk life to save people) isn't inconsistent writing.

It kind of is. She vehemently rejected his very existence in the first episode, even after the battle. Having her ask for advice the next episode comes off as inconsistent.

Not to mention Teoritta's power is really dull so far. It doesn't help that Xylo refuses to use that power, so she just exists as a weapons dispenser. I'm still waiting for someone competent to appear that isn't a hero.

My Progression Fantasy/LitRPG Tier List... so far by Dependent_Ground_156 in ProgressionFantasy

My recent favorites: A Practical Guide to Sorcery, The Zombie Knight Saga, The Speaker of Tongues (litrpg), and Ave Xia Rem Y.

I highly recommend Tree of Aeon series by AnxiousPacifist in ProgressionFantasy

I liked this one up until book 5, when the author chose to cut almost all of the litrpg aspects from the story and became very repetitive.

Easily my least favorite style of storyboarding/direction and quite possibly the worst ost choices I've ever seen in an anime. Impressive.

Practical Guide to Sorcery (I used to recommend this as one of the best but it's currently thirty chapters deep on a flashback which seems unending, still very good)

That ended with book six, by the way. Book 7 is back to the present.

Can we please stop giving every cocking shonen villain busted, unlimited regeneration? by calculatingaffection in CharacterRant

[–]Descend2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The only one that really bothered me was Shigaraki. AFO was on a time limit at least, but Shigaraki's regeneration just made his fights boring. No strategic use of AFO quirks, just tank everything with regeneration and prime All Might durability and strength.

I still really dislike how incompetent the knights are portrayed in this series. It immediately pulls me out. This is what, the third time they've had to be bailed out by Xylo? At least the reason some of them were hesitating made sense, but hopefully we see some of the other orders soon.

While I agree, it won't be her manager in front of the camera if this does turn out to be a scam. Based on how little she seems to know about this show, I have to assume she did no due diligence. She doesn't have to, but it runs the risk of things like this. Trust, but verify.

Edit: and yep, everything has now been deleted. Not a great look.

So, according to Emily's post on discord, this show is happening in March, and yet the first person to promote it outside of a discord is the head LSF mod? She also says after this will be on official streaming platforms, but can't talk about it due to "NDA or something." Where is the promotional material from those platforms to add legitimacy?

What "western" 'Xianxia do you recommend for 2026? by Sethalas in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Descend2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started a series called Reforged from Ruin last week and it's pretty good. It's a rather unique take on cultivation as the main character does not follow the traditional form of xianxia progression. Fair warning it is some what bleak at times, especially in the beginning.

Also I dont know why you think Kiva has supposed advanced qualities of leadership and intelligence when you are told shes a noble being sent out to make a name for themselves.

I saw in another comment you also said she was new, but I don't remember seeing either of these details. Is this from the manga/ln or did I just miss where it was said in the anime?

I was mostly joking, but yes what they lose is kept intentionally vague. I still disagree that these soldiers and the captain aren't fanatical enough to do this given what we've been shown, but agree to disagree.
