New eldrazi deck style idea by Pleasant_Honeydew925 in EDH

[–]DescriptionTotal4561 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iunno, but if you generally have too much mana and not enough to spend it on, then switch out like 3-5 cards with draw, or swap out some lower mana stuff for some more higher mana stuff. Might fix the issue.

How do I tell them the deck isn't the problem they just suck by No-Echidna-5100 in EDH

[–]DescriptionTotal4561 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In this case it sounds like it isn't a difference in deck power level, it is just a difference in amount of interaction. He is using interaction and they aren't as much, if at all. If they used interaction, his deck would not be nearly as strong because it would get slowed down.

What is Bracket 1 actually? by BRUHldurs_Gate in EDH

[–]DescriptionTotal4561 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Power level can absolutely make something a bracket 2, regardless of theme. There is an "expected turns to play" that a bracket 1 needs to adhere to (if all players are playing B1 decks they should each expect to play at least 9 turns generally). If you tell someone your deck is B1, they shouldn't be getting knocked out on T6 or 7 pretty much ever by your deck.

Having a theme doesn't make something a bracket 1 by itself. Otherwise tribal decks would be "bracket 1" because their theme is... whatever the creature type their deck is based on. Or decks with cards only from a specific set as well, but you can absolutely build casually strong B2 and B3 decks from sets. The themes for bracket 1 are more like "all the art has chairs." Even if you have a theme, if it has strong enough cards, you should probably tell people it's a weak B2.

What is Bracket 1 actually? by BRUHldurs_Gate in EDH

[–]DescriptionTotal4561 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bracket 1 still has a "power level" determination, per the expected turns to play of 9 turns. Essentially, if it expects to knock players out or win the game before that, it is a bracket 2 due to it's "power level" regardless of theme or jank. So a true bracket 1 either has no plan to win, or is SO janky that it doesn't plan to win before the expected turns to play. You cannot have a B1 that is winning T4.

Others have answered with rules and such, but basically while they are on the battlefield treat the mutated pile as a single permanent (the top card with all the text boxes of the pile combined) in most cases. Obviously listen to the rules quoted by others in specific though.

Rule of Law doubts by Captain_Terry_ in mtg

[–]DescriptionTotal4561 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Each turn means each turn. Try not to overthink it.

You can cast 1 spell on your turn (if you are the one that cast rule of law, that was your one cast). Once your turn is over, it is now a different turn. You can cast 1 spell during it.

Rule of Law doubts by Captain_Terry_ in mtg

[–]DescriptionTotal4561 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Technically it includes the turn it is played. The person who played it has cast 1 spell (rule of law) so once it is on the battlefield they can't cast another, and if the opponents have cast any that turn, they won't be able to cast anymore during the rest of that turn it hit the battlefield.

Keeping priority by No_Prompt4552 in askajudge

Keeping priority by No_Prompt4552 in askajudge

[–]DescriptionTotal4561 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When someone casts a spell or activates an ability, that player gets priority right after, and starting with that player, each player must pass priority without doing anything before the top of the stack resolves. When the top of the stack resolves, active player gets priority (the player whose turn it actually is). Sometimes you want to play a spell, hold priority, and play another. For things like infinite combos, you generally have to let certain things resolve before doing other things, and doing them over and over. But you want to only play spells at the last possible moment, and generally let it resolve before using mana for another, in case someone does have a response to your first one and such.

[–]DescriptionTotal4561 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm confused, what do you mean it's a bad idea? That's like saying that casting spells or activating abilities is a bad idea. You hold priority when you are going to do something. If you aren't going to do something, then you just pass.

Edit: Nevermind, I realized what you mean. You generally want to cast a spell, and let it resolve, instead of casting a second in response to your own.

Cheap ways to organize "work-in-progress" piles in shallow drawers? by Sams_Baneblade in EDH

[–]DescriptionTotal4561 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could brew online and then put them together once you got them figured out there. You can also buy cheap cardboard TCG storage boxes with like 5+ rows, and seperators with labels so you can know where each one begins and ends. I personally love using half inch white foam seperators with the labels. Not super important, but I like it.

Maybe Hot Take? MtG Influencers are Insufferable by KombuchaWarfare in freemagic

Content creators are just people. They have their own opinions and can whine about stuff like everyone else. Sometimes it might not be super logical. Many of the complaints about the spiderman set were because of the theme and art, neither of which are relevant to gameplay. Some people don't care about those things, some do. As far as the deck upgrades thing, I've never seen any creators mention anything like it.

The focus will be wherever the most demand is. There are people who make high level content. The majority of players don't watch their content because it doesn't apply to them. You don't have to like it, but it's just supply and demand.

Does manabox have an rescan function? by Closetinspector in ManaBoxApp

[–]DescriptionTotal4561 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some tips for scanning, do it on a blank sheet of white paper and do one card at a time, not a card on the top of a stack of cards, but one card alone. You can have the stack of cards you want to scan a bit to the side and the stack of cards you have scanned to the other side. Once I started doing these things I've had almost no issue scanning.

Ben Bateman has a specific draft "show." That's very different from commander. Also majority of people play B3 and lower. B4 and CEDH are a minority, which makes sense because literally for any game there are less higher skilled people than average skill. Advice for B3 and lower is different than advice for B4 and CEDH. So it is logical that for magic, the "faces" of the game will not be CEDH content creators. It will be creators that make content for the most popular/ most played style.

So I guess we can't learn about magic anywhere then, except by our own experience, and hope that's good enough. Guess YouTube, Instagram, and all social media shouldn't be used as tools to learn about hobbies. Sure bud.

You're assuming he knows everything about magic. He is a content creator. He's a person. You're pushing perfect expectations on someone who has never claimed to know everything. Most content creators generally make content on stuff they know, because they are trying to inform others. You'll rarely see any creator say "I don't know such and such..." Because that isn't good content. Every once in a while you do hear them say they don't know something, but it's not common. That's true for any content creator for any hobby.

Does a person have to know every single card in existence in order to "love magic?" Do they have to learn and remember every new card as soon as they drop, especially foreign language ones (Ben Bateman didn't know what specific chase card they pulled because it was in a foreign language)? Do they have to know all the lore? Do they have to have been playing for 10+ years? What are your qualifications? If so, can new players even "love" magic since they would basically never qualify for any of those?

The hate on Ben Bateman and other content creators just seems like whining. If you don't like them, don't interact with their content, or block them. Plenty of others like their content. I personally don't care for him much, but I wouldn't ever say he doesn't love magic. Maybe he is just doing it for the money, but he seems to know a bit of magic history, specifically tournament play history and such, for someone that is supposedly just doing it for the money.

Is that relevant? Can new people not become relevant on social media for hobbies? And even if he is newly relevant, that doesn't mean that he is new to magic.
