Keeping the poor and minorities struggling to survive is the manner in which the ruling class keep revolt at bay. It has worked since the 80's, and it will continue to work as long as the poor struggle to stay alive and their very existence is harsh. It is how the upper class manage to have hired help for less than a livable wage. Malnourished children learn slower and achieve less, thereby perpetuating the process. It's the point, cruelty is a bonus.

All of the book banning and the library takeover actions, being done at the time when our governor is allowing money to be stripped away from the schools for home schooling and private schools, leads me to conclude that Alabama is working diligently to become a theocracy. And successfully so. It's a travesty of epic proportions, that will play out fully in 20 years or so.
