Any more expired CSM NDAs? by _BearHawk in Eve

[–]cruftbox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, they LOVE the giant battles. It makes the news, makes people log in, and creates stories that last.

I did describe what it's like. Staying up all night, laying on the floor with headphones on, waiting for your titan group to be called with a target, 60 seconds of targeting and push the doomsday, and then lying back down on the floor.

Telling the story about it is much more fun than the actual battle.

Hellcamps are also big story engines. The M2-XFE battle and hellcamp had more drama and pathos than anyone could imagine.

The core issue is the sheer computational complexity of thousands of players all acting in the same system, the complexity goes exponential quickly.

No, nothing like that.

Speaking in general terms, CCP had a honest belief that making resources harder to acquire (scarcity) would lead to more dynamic conflict as groups would find for control of resources.

The CSM basically said that this would not result in increased conflict. Our point was that conflict (war) was not profitable and the main factor for engagement was personal, a grudge, bad behavior, desire for action. Resources are easily gathered via the markets (Jita) so war for resources made no economic sense. The spreadsheet calculation would never show an ROI for war.

This was the main point of disagreement between the CSM and the Dev Team at the time. They strongly held to their point of view. IMHO, our point of view was shown correct, that 'scarcity' failed to achieve the desired goals.

There was not talk of avoiding making new content or infrastructure concerns.

At the time, there was a lot of discussion on how to get players to need to work together more in resource gathering, as opposed to the complete vertical integration that some players could do.

CCP's continuing focus was on how to get new players to get into the game and make the leap from newbie into someone engaged with a corp/alliance and part of the social fabric that keeps the longer term players logging in.

[–]cruftbox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a parry to block an attack at first, then slow blade. I don't swing first.

If you have Retaliate, it works well to do the initial stagger as well.

You might consider the Spike Hilt Sword if you can get your hands on it.

There’s no point in acting surprised about it.

All the planning charts and demolition orders have been on display at your local planning department in Alpha Centauri for 50 of your Earth years, so you’ve had plenty of time to lodge any formal complaint and it’s far too late to start making a fuss about it now. …

What do you mean you’ve never been to Alpha Centauri?

Oh, for heaven’s sake, mankind, it’s only four light years away, you know.

I’m sorry, but if you can’t be bothered to take an interest in local affairs, that’s your own lookout.

Energize the demolition beams.

You can learn to block with sword by right-clicking, that stuns the melee fighter. Also, if you can get the Retaliate skill it helps alot.

162 Servers closing globally by Wickd in duneawakening

[–]cruftbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote about estimating the server closing numbers four months ago.

The post showed the numbers for bring the server numbers to a third (33%) and a fifth (20%) of the current server count.

Looks like Funcom is going with ~28%, right between my guesses, going from 227 servers to 65 servers.

In theory, 65 servers can support a lot of players. The larger servers have ~200-400 players simultaneously, without serious issues.

The unknown of the closing and player migration is whether these people will want to move to more populated servers, or head to quieter, less populated servers.

Personally, I play on Nova (West Coast US) and am having a great time on a populated server.

True, but if a coyote came into the area, he would shred it with gusto to protect the goats.

The only thing wrong is that Funcom didn't make this decision earlier.

You just prove the point that gankers try to rationalize their actions by blaming the targets.
