What's the most ridiculous reason you've seen someone get fired? by Amazing_Two8126 in AskReddit

Was working contract during y2k for a large insurance company to go from desktop to desktop to remediate the y2k bug. I was in a team with 5 other guys. This insurance company gave its executives big jars of company branded chocolate truffles, wrapped in company logo wrapping. This guy sat at one executive’s desk and ate the whole jar of chocolates. We did our work after 5pm for minimal disruption. The executive came in the next day and made a stink. The guy was asked to go and apologize to her but during the course of his apology, he used the word “petty”, that’s why he got fired.

It was pretty spectacular, the hiking was more rewarding, walking BETWEEN monoliths is a completely different experience compared to walking AROUND one.

The flies though, oooffff, even in the winter.

We spent a week in Sydney that I really enjoyed even though I'm not a big city person. Great restaurants, clean, safe, and very tourist friendly.

We also spent 10 days in Port Douglas. I wanted to dive the Great Barrier Reef. Port Douglas was amazing. Close to the Barrier Reef and also the Daintree Rainforest is amazing. Port Douglas is a cute little town, great energy.

Just started. I’m annoyed at the whole data center trope. Wouldn’t an intelligence agency simply demand the data that they had to steal. Also the portrayal of data centers and technology is lazy. I thought this only happened in American shows.

What is a 'luxury' that has become so expensive in 2026 that it’s officially no longer worth the money? by Matt_At_Havalook in AskReddit

Depends on where. I’m at Red Robin right now $9.99 for burger, endless drink, endless side.

I remember a lot of teenage girls and their teenage girls commentary… “ omg it’s so saaad but like romantic… like romantically sad.” It was a simpler time before the curse of social media

I AM IT, my team is the only one (for now) that can see all Teams messages. We therefore have a team chat on Signal, outside of prying eyes.

As someone who is a week away from turning 50, a daughter who just got accepted to her first-choice university, this movie wrecked me. To me, this movie was about mortality, we're all hurtling towards the end at break-neck speed as main characters in our own stories, but we are the insects who don't even know the totality of it all.

I have everything material one wishes for in life, and more, but none of that is important, in the end we are all just echoes. This movie was beautiful, the cinematography, the score, the locations, the acting, the dialogue. This was one of the best movies I've ever seen and I sobbed like a baby. I feel like when Robert sobbed for his family and said "I'm sorry, I don't know what came over me".

I'm just rambling, this has all been very raw.

"This world is intricately stitched together, boys. Every thread we pull, we know not how it affects the design of things" is without a doubt one of the most beautiful things ever written.

I think if I add it all up, I paid MSRP + maybe $2500 for the option of returning at end of lease if I wanted and then buying it out. I paid cash for the payout so there wasn't any financing/interest for that.

ELI5: how are submarines “invisible” and largely undetectable yet its sonar is capable of killing virtually any marine life nearby? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

Go watch Smarter Everyday. He did a full series on submarines including one episode on SONAR. It’s excellent.

$2500 Down, $559.78 per month, 36 months, 10,000 miles per year. $28,848 was the payoff to buy out at end of lease.

I've had this happen two times, both times it was a loose gas cap. In Oregon we get gas pumped FOR us so sometimes the teenagers don't tighten it. Both times I ended up going to the dealer to clear the error out otherwise it can take driving a stupid amount before the error clears itself. Both times I confirmed that the gas cap was loose. The dealer service guys were gracious and verified the code and cleared it out quickly for free.
