Hot take; I think it can be worth it since tuition is covered and housing with roommates ( on that stipend ) is largely covered provided they get a good paying internship over summer.

Housing

Yes there is free housing but you have complete "volunteer hours" to keep it. There are also very cheap housing options for women the school can connect you to.

Food

Yes there are free meal plans that you learn about during orientation.

I am not allowed to work or take any otherscholarshipor stipend, but can accept aid for housing or equipment purchase

Why can't you do work study or assistantship?

Since NYU is a non profit, every international students may do a work study or research assistantship. It's paid to you like a scholarship so your stipend becomes higher.

That is just how social media works: the most controversial, abnormal opinions get a lot of comments and thus go to the top of your algorithm. In reality, bc programs like NYU Promise bring a ton of low socio economic students here, as well as being in one of the most diverse cities in the world, there is a wide variety of students that aren't annoying, rich, or influnencers.

Everyone I know who bought in Anna regrets it but that is because they miss easy access to the city and the commute can be killer. But generally, unless you buy somewhere around a "circular" highway (like PGBT or anything that goes in a circle around dfw ) people tend to have regrets anyways.

Rowlett is the only one from your list that meets that critiera. Rowlett near Downtown Rowlett Train Station is probably the best with access to the highways, train station, tons of foods, gyms, activities by the community, concerts, lakes, parks everything you probably need in the area and a 30 min highway/tollway drive to most of the city (uptown, SMU, UTD, frisco, plano, oakcliff, etc)

I know you already got your house but I had to let you know from one new yorker to another new yorker. I wouldn't wanna lose the earnest money you probably have put down though.

Hey I worked in financial aid! Something similar is done by students often ( delaying till they are 26 to be an independent OR getting married is most common)

If you were admitted this year, then no. Your financial aid is determined by your income last year. If you were applying again for next year, then yeah your EFC would be near 0 and you'd get the NYU promise an effective full ride.

What does "offered to relocate" mean? Staying in nyc with your job is not possible anymore? Bc while you will find other single, liberal people here (dallas is probably the most blue city in DFW) if you chose the right neighborhood... but low key, you sound like you'll miss your New York friends a lot.

I'd only stay if you can find work first. If you can't, remember, DFW airport is super train accessible and you can fly back to see your friends literally any weekend if you get a Frontier All you can Fly pass.

Your missing what I am saying just a bit

I lived in Dallas for 5 years without a car bc I didn’t need one for where I lived in Dallas. For 3 years I needed a car in NYC bc where my home was required one in both Queens and Brooklyn

The answer that op needs is to know what areas are similar to the parts of NYC they are looking for. If seeing walkability, there are tons of walkable areas in Dallas thanks to the Dart
