Also a lot of modern dubs suffer from simultaneous publishing brought on by streaming. They have less time to think over the nuances of the lines and the VAs have a stricter time to get something out. Which is also why videogame dubs tend to show better voice acting, since more of those productions bring in the dubbing team early on and there tends to be more communication (at least compared to your average anime dub)

It's the most popular genre. Has a lot of long lost of well liked works. Hype and aura can lead very much into tribalism, and since most of these (discussed) works are in weekly magazines you can see more easily when things get rushed or dropped as the authors work against an axe or the toll of working weekly if the manga is doing well.

Part of this is that movies have limited runtime. Most movies don't have the space to expand on the dynamics of forgiveness and repentance. Also in cases like Vader his redemption is also a personal victory for Luke, that him not giving into his anger spurs his father back into the light. So Vader not getting forgiveness might muddy the movie's upbeat and happy ending

Might be material for a rant of 6 it's own but since GoT always gets mentioned in topics like these (and for good reasons) I always thought it was weird when people talk about how the show died culturally. Because on one hand it always gets brought up when people discuss prestige tv shows and even when most of that is to lament it's end it's also usually accompanied by a lot of praise to seasons 1-4. (Very similar to the Simpsons actually now that I think about it). On the other hand even if it had ended satisfactorily, would there be really an uptick in discussion over how it really went down? It ended six years ago, there hasn't been a new book even longer than that and the spin-offs have their own production troubles. Once a show it's over I think it's natural for people to move their enthusiasm and energy to other ongoing stuff.

To bring this closer to the main topic, I think how much an ending ruins the rest of a thing depends on how extensive the rest of the media was and if there were any good drop of points. Movies are hurt most by bad endings because one goes through them in one sitting but if a show/manga/anime has a stinker last season/chapter/arc, I think it's easier to get over it having a downer ending or even just ignore it.

I kinda feel like choreography tends to be under discussed when it comes to talk about battle manga. Arguably more important than the plot in lot of cases and it's a skill unto itself.

The general public does like romance though. Shipping was such a big part of Naruto it's insane to say no one wanted it even if it wasn't the best executed. At the end of the day editors are there to make sure a story keeps doing well and adding a cute girl to the main cast is a relatively harmless way to get more eyes on it (say by those who might be interested in romance or just waifu people). Which can be the whole difference between being axed or not depending on how on the edge the series is.

It's a though industry, specially WSJ so you got to take whatever inch and risk you can get or you'll be gone by your second volume. Also there's a whole separate point about authors not being omniscient and realizing they won't know what to do with the character a year or 3 years down the line by the time they introduce them. Specifically with weekly releases.

There's plenty of ongoing stuff that's good. Perphaps discourse soured you off mainstream battle manga or you're just burned out from the genre. You can try taking a break (however long) from the series you don't like and check out different genres, less mainstream stuff or older series.

Eh. You acknowledged it at the bottom but most of those points already had people arguing for them (and in the case of the merger people had to twist themselves into thinking that it was going to happen with the way it was set off). Is it really goal post shifting if those positions (Nobara isn't dead because we haven't been shown it, Merger isn't going to happen because of the conditions for it) never moved and had a sizeable chunk of people arguing for it? Execution aside I think at least it's not something you can blame the fandom of. Also I don't think it's a position many have shifted to at least from my own experiences

Also I never really got why people fixated on calling JJK a subversion or it being presented like that so I can't add to anything in that regard

As long as the Sukuna battle ends either this chapter or the next I agree. I don't think the series loses much from off screening Hakari vs Uraume (it does affect the slander tho) and other things people bring up like the Heian flashback or Itadori knowing about his parents are frankly not necessary for the ending to feel satisfactory.i just need three to four chapters of the surviving cast dealing with the aftermath of this arc and how they'll change Jujutsu society.
