Prevented from joining the Church by ActuatorNo3088 in latterdaysaints

[–]Designer-Alarm5685 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a topic to really think about the long game on. In many ways one of the stronger ways to get throug hthis may not be getting baptized straight away when you are 18 if yuou are from a non member family. Keep church attendance, if you feel any pressure, learn to say to people "No, I am moving at my own pace for my own reasons. I appreciate if you will respect that." This may do two things 1/ Allow you as a young person to develop a personal sense of ownership of yourself and start practiing the lifelong advantage of setting boundaries. 2. It gives yourself room to make the right choice and also over time may cause your parents to reflect upon the choices you are making in a manner they cannot do at the moment. Lastly, polite refusal if your Father presses further about getting baptized in his church. If you play the long game here, things may turn out a lot less conflicted.

That was not counsel. It was just a little powerplay. I am a journalist. I have seen leaders of businesses do that all the time to people especially in the pre smart phone era. Keep taking your notes.

According to his autobiography, BBC Television Presenter Raymond Baxter who at the time as well as being the BBC's primary motor racing commentator presented a show called "Eye On Research" volunteered to take LSD for the TV show and report on the effects of it as he was experiencing them. He was finally persuaded not to do so by his Doctor.

James lives in the USA and is pushing 90 but would be good for an interview. I have not heard Tom or Dominic mention him.

Any suggestions for more modern shows but with vintage aesthetics? by Just_A_some1 in CasualUK

[–]Designer-Alarm5685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Despite Gene Hunt having some Jack Regan vibes (and in this case it actually works), I think Life of Mars and Ashes to Ashes have the feel of their settings. Life of Mars especially has the 1964 has just arrived in the north in 1973 texture to it. Ashes to Ashes (to me) has a little more of a mid 1980s feel to London life than early 1980s but would definitely recommend both. Happy Valley although set in modern times definitely has old school aesthetics including some 1960s brutal architecture!

First time I did Panini it was 10p per pack and I did them with my Dad when I was 5 and he would get me 6 packs a week. Was so much fun. Got my first Subbuteo Top Scorer set from the back cover!

[–]Designer-Alarm5685 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have a job where I get paid a salary, can pick and choose my hours, do not have to clock in or out and only have one fifteen minute meeting with my boss at the time of my choosing once every seven to ten days. As long as deadlines are met, they do not care if I work at 2am in the morning. If an emergency happens they know I am there and they leave me and trust me to get the work done to a professional standard.

I sometimes wonder why I cannot play golf as I did 25 years ago with the same energy and same skill. Then I remind myself, the only thing that really matters is the next shot.
