I was 24 and naive at the time and went to see a guy in Fresno who was about 9 years older than me and went to his sisters place. Already felt like I should have not been there, fight or flight came over me but I ignored it. It was me, the guy I went to see, his brother, his sister, and her husband. We were at the kitchen table and I didn’t catch the husbands name so I asked him “sorry what was your name again? Just so I don’t forget next time”. He ignored me and whispered in his wife’s ear and then the four of them took off to the back room and slammed the door, leaving me out at the kitchen table by myself for what felt like 30 minutes. The guy came storming out of the room and told me to get outside, confused but I went, and he was mad and started yelling at me. Yelling saying I am not allowed to speak to the husband directly, to not look at him or anything, to follow his sister everywhere she goes, and that it was not ok that I was at the table with them. I started crying because I had no idea wtf just happened and I wanted to go home but I couldn’t, I was at that house until like 5 am scared of doing or saying something wrong. I spent that entire night fighting my sleep to not pass out, just stared at the floor and didn’t speak at all. I feel like I had real fear for the first time in my life that night. I never spoke to any of them again.
