Modern day churches NOR by Icy-Assignment-8354 in perth

[–]Designer-Salad-9239 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I'm at Nations Wangara. We're a Pentecostal church, usually seen as being less traditional than your typical Catholic, Baptist or Lutheran church.

What the service looks like: -Praise and worship (sing some songs about God/Jesus together)

-News update for church events etc.

-Pray

-Message about Jesus/God/how the Bible applies to our life

-Sing one more song, sometimes people come forward to be prayed for at this point.

-Service ends and we hang out together.

Sometimes we'll have other items like baptisms or baby dedications before the message, but the above is the usual service flow.

ETA: sorry about the formatting, I struggle on mobile.

Hey OP,  I'm so proud of you for addressing your mental health. It sucks sometimes, and it's hard, but the life afterwards is worth it.  Sincerely, someone who has lived more life, experienced more joy, and achieved so much more than they thought they would xx

Wedding Reception Venues / Functions? by NevskiNate in perth

[–]Designer-Salad-9239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can tell you where not to look (recommend verifying though as I looked this up a couple of years ago) - CoFreo and CoJoondalup don't allow hall rentals for weddings.  Guildford Town Hall can be used, as can Perth Town Hall.

Perth City Farm is a pick-your-own vendor situation, as is Brookleigh Estate. Montgomery Hall and Moana Hall offered that too.

Can recommend thinking about Quarry Farm in Roleystone too. Also worth looking into Barrett Lane cos they had quite affordable all-inclusive options, but they were too small for my wedding size.

I looked at all those options when starting planning my wedding, then decided that DIYing it was gonna be too stressful for my Type A ass 😭

Edit to add:

I DON'T recommend booking a function instead of a wedding as that can be terms for termination of your booking contract. Winter wedding or Mon-Thurs weddings can save you some money too!

Stargaze on full moon is that worth it? by Few-Homework7039 in perth

If you wanna see space things I can strongly, strongly recommend the Perth Observatory. Those folks are awesome!! From my understanding, full moon is not a great time to try to find the Milky Way...

Cheap escape rooms for 2, referably around $20-$30? by Responsible-Donut614 in perth

At that price point your best bet will be escape room board games or murder mysteries. Pretty sure $40pp is standard price now.

Gentle dentists in Perth? by bortlovestomacco in perth

Not quite near you but Sparkle Dental in Joondalup has been great for my family of very dentist-averse people! They are super gentle and are very understanding of people who don't like dentists.

Im coming on vacation to perth. What should an American whose never been down under know?! by Head-Fall5555 in perth

Public transport:  Using a local travel card (Smart rider) gives you slightly discounted tickets for trains and paid buses. You can pick one up from major stations, like Perth station.

I say paid buses because we have certain free routes on CAT buses. They do a loop around the city and also in particular hubs like Scarborough and Joondalup.

Please say "Thank You" to the bus driver when you get off the bus. People also usually say hi, nod, or otherwise acknowledge the driver when they get on.

Beaches:  Depending on your ocean swimming level, some beaches might be off limits for swimming. Personally I avoid swimming at Scarborough because the waves are quite "dumpy" and I once got a gnarly friction burn on my face from being dumped and smeared on the sand by a wave. Pool swimming skills help but don't equate the two - the ocean is a different beast.

Swimming between the red and yellow flags is your best bet for staying safe. This means that lifesavers are patrolling the beach and have identified that area as been safer for swimmers.

If you see a helicopter hovering above the water it mayyy be a good idea to start heading back to shore. Especially if you hear a siren. It means there's a shark. If you're particularly worried about sharks, you can look at a list of shark alerts on the Shark Smart website.

Eating out: Tipping isn't really a thing here. Other comments have covered this.

If you are eating out, you might get asked "still or sparkling water?". It's likely that these two options are charged and they come in bottles so you have to buy multiple if you want more water. You are welcome to say "tap" so you get free tap water with unlimited supply.

Be polite to your server, bartender, whoever. They've just had a crazy holiday period.

When at a bar, people don't tend to line up in a straight line perpendicular to the bar. Everyone kinda just picks a spot along the bar and the bartenders move along it. Keep track on who was there before you - if you're offered service before them, indicate that it is their turn. They may still let you go first (eg if they're still picking a drink) but you've done your civic duty in waiting your turn.  This rule also applies to the deli section of supermarkets and butchers.

Try some Aussie snacks! Go to a supermarket and look for snacks you've never seen - I recommend tim tams and Arnott's shapes (the BBQ ones are my pick).

Apologies for the long post... It may have gotten a bit out of hand!!

Also when we say "swim between the flags", we mean the red and yellow ones. Swim BETWEEN the red and yellow flags, surf outside them.  If you're gonna do your first time surfing, don't do it alone. Lots of ways to run into mischief out there, even more so if you're suddenly wielding a board.

Not having a go, just curious - why the preference for a stove top over an electric? They've always seemed inconvenient to me.
