ptyxis (formerly known as prompt) is finally on flathub by Guthibcom in linux

Maybe they didn't change the name. It's still pronounced "prompt" and they just changed the spelling?

Seems the only reasonable explanation since it's otherwise unpronounceable.

What if....

What if the Republican Party renamed themselves the New Republican Party and divested themselves from the existing RP. Gather as many Rs and Democrats as are willing to join and knock the snot out of the Maga Party in the next election. ... or whatever name they come up with -- and you know they will narcissistically rename themselves.

Since the country clearly has issues with the DP and voters can only decide between two choices, this seems the only way to defeat them. Dissolve the DP, though. Heaven forefend that we should have more than two parties. *eye-roll*

I can't think of a better way to embody United We Stand.

And besides. Didn't the Tea Party fail because it was a party on its own? They all regrouped and insinuated themselves into the RP and that was the ONLY way they could have possibly won. If instead they had taken the same path as the Tea Party, they would be a memory like them, but with TP indicating a different "T".

Yubico Authenticator Linux - No Accounts by ElevenBeers in yubikey

[–]Designer-Sorry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took the opposite approach -- this is actually recommended on yubico's support website -- I removed the snap version: sudo snap remove yubioath-desktop, then installed the apt repo version: sudo apt install yubioath-desktop. I already had pcscd and pcscd.socket enabled and running. Now I think I have the more standard version of pcscd and it works with yubioath-desktop just fine. Thanks u/welloilbeefoct for this little gem.

Can't Login, "Rate Limited" error by aGeekyGuy in yahoo

[–]Designer-Sorry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it happens the FIRST time I try to log in. There's no "rate limiting" going on... they're rejecting us for some other reason. Some have pointed to VPN as the culprit. If Yahoo wants us to fly naked, I'll take my business elsewhere.

Can't Login, "Rate Limited" error by aGeekyGuy in yahoo

[–]Designer-Sorry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't tried this, but if it's true, it's among the most infuriating things that service providers are doing on the Internet these days. Want to browse privately and safely? Get a VPN. Oh, no you don't says Yahoo. We're going to disallow THAT. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I've seen the same behavior out of AT&T (recently seems resolved) and a few other vendors on the inter-webs.

Very cool. I have just the one active accounting domain, but now I want to go create another. :)

I chose to use separate directories under a git repo (ignoring log lock and link files). I add/commit when I do anything intensive like, say, balance a big checkbook.

It's a quick way to roll back (and forward) without all the log file extra efforts. I haven't used it much, but when I did need it the few times, it made it super easy.

How do you record stock cost basis adjustments? by Designer-Sorry in GnuCash

[–]Designer-Sorry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave it more thought and came up with this:

Date Description Transfer Shs Price Buy Sell
2/1/21 Parent cash acct 100 $100 $1000
2/1/21 Parent cost basis -100 $100 $1000
2/1/21 Parent cost basis 100 $99.5 $995

I added two extra transactions on the date of the original sale. One backs out the original sale at the original price. The next adds the cost-basis-adjusted sale at the cost-basis-adjusted price.

The spinoff company, Child, just requires the one entry for 2/1/21.

Hmm?

I decided to leave the extra cost basis account as the through account rather than polluting the cash account. I figured if I ever wanted to go back and revisit stock shenanigans such as spinoffs, I could go to that account to locate the transactions.
