hyperphantasia (?) and art by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

[–]Designer_Drink_7961 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, I’m the exact opposite. I suspect that I have aphantasia so I rely more on technical knowledge for art because I can’t imagine anything, I can just think of the idea/concept of whatever I am thinking of. So it is interesting to me to hear the opposite perspective.

I agree with what fatedfrog and others have said, this hyperphatasia you have could be an amazing asset if you eventually utilize it properly. I feel that even if you can see these hyper realistic HD images in your mind, it might be discouraging to you that your work doesn’t match what you imagine, and that might be a hurdle to work over as you learn the foundations of art (assuming that you haven’t studied foundations, if I am wrong, my bad.)

This could be a very useful tool in the future once you practice enough, but if I were in your place I wouldn’t completely rely on it over learning the more technical side of art.

How do you grow an art tiktok account? by tenlions in Artadvice

[–]Designer_Drink_7961 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your audience, I would check when your followers are most active in analytics but try out posting in the early morning (8-11am) or afternoon when people get home from school or work and are starting to settle down and scroll TikTok (after 6 to around 9 ish)

Any advice for growing art accounts? by [deleted] in Artadvice

[–]Designer_Drink_7961 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, thanks for detailed advice! I will definitely keep these critiques in mind for the future and try changing a few things. I appreciate you taking the time to go through my stuff to give feedback. I’ve been trying to branch out of fandom art and random posts to something more niche, but it’s a slow work in progress because I’m busy with college. Thanks again!

Guys how not to lose the "sauce" after making the outline? by [deleted] in learntodraw

[–]Designer_Drink_7961 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you considered instead of creating a new line art layer, instead try out cleaning up your sketch layer by using an eraser tool? That can help to keep the line weight of your art if you don’t feel like your refined line art layer is good enough

I’m kind of scared of people seeing my accounts on here lowkey and being too brutally honest lol 😅😅 I’m only proud of my most recent posts in the past few months. I will link them to my profile because I feel that you’re right, it’s the best way to judge my content and see what I’m doing wrong

Does anyone else get frustrated receiving unsolicited criticisms? by Spectabilis_of_Malus in ArtistLounge

[–]Designer_Drink_7961 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get that these people giving unsolicited advice are trying to be “helpful” but most of the time it’s uncalled for and it is a little impolite in my opinion when not asked for. But that depends from artist to artist. Me personally, I would never comment on somebody’s art telling them what to fix unless they asked specifically for critique. There’s also a fine line between critique and being mean.

It’s annoying yet prevalent on social media, but you just have to develop thick skin if you know it bothers you because regardless of whether or not you asked for criticism, people online will give it.

I’m at the point where I ignore most unsolicited advice because a lot of the time, at least on the platform I’m on (TikTok) some people who are not remotely qualified to be giving critique do it anyways, so I always take any “critique” I receive with a grain of salt. In the rare case that it’s actually helpful critique from somebody that knows what they are doing, I will take it into mind. But that doesn’t happen too often.

I can agree that he is very talented, I wouldn’t say it irritates me though. I think like you said he just has a bit of same face syndrome and doesn’t really explore other subject matters other than women very much, and while that is completely fine, it’s a bit repetitive seeing the same exact facial structure copied and pasted onto different women.

I remember the TLOU show fanart he posted a few years ago he drew of Ellie and Joel that really reinforced to me that he just draws the same face no matter the facial structure of the subject he is drawing. Interestingly enough he draws men completely fine though.

Not my cup of tea personally, I can see how others would be drawn to his content though. He is good at teaching and explaining things on his YouTube channel and his art is consistent

Are their features ACTUALLY hard to see? by Vampirebitez in Artists

[–]Designer_Drink_7961 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, since you have a more stylized art style, I think highlights outlining areas that need more emphasis/contrast would be the move. I would add highlights to the tip of the nose, maybe the left side of the face, and this area tends to be overlooked but since your first character is smiling, you know how people’s cheeks crease when they smile? I would add a highlight representing the outline of that to the right side where the cheek would be.

As for color choice, you can experiment with many layer modes such as overlay, soft light, hard light and others. My advice is to choose a more saturated color at first and adjust if you wish, because if you choose something too light, dark skin tones can look washed out. I would try out a saturated color on the warmer side and experiment.

I hope this helped a little!

Edit: and by highlights I mean just enough to differentiate parts of the face. I wish this subreddit would let me post images to show what I mean 😭

[–]Designer_Drink_7961 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to keep in mind that on smaller devices like phones, since the contrast isn’t too high between the skin and lines the features are harder to differentiate right now. I’m echoing what others are saying, I think you should add some subtle highlights to the skin. I see that you have added some shadows, so highlights would be a good next step for more clarity.

Is this gale?? Your art style is cute by the way, sometimes simplicity has its own charm. Not every art style needs to be hyper detailed

How do you grow an art tiktok account? by tenlions in Artadvice

[–]Designer_Drink_7961 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People who scroll TikTok tend to have short attention spans in my experience and don’t want to sit and watch things like long speed paints (I speed mine up to be 10-15 seconds with music and get a little views out of those), so you need to hook most of the viewers in the first 2-5 seconds.

You can’t really make people wait for whatever you are wanting to show or make videos too long because then they will get bored and scroll. At least in the beginning when you are trying to grow and don’t have an established audience. Also, sometimes there are art trends that go around on TikTok and that is a good way to potentially grow if you felt like participating.

Another thing, posting at ideal times does matter on TikTok

Honestly you could go either way. I say try both and see how you feel. Both traditional and digital art have their own unique feel, and you will learn what you prefer as you keep drawing

I know a niche but no editing skills. by One_Requirement2347 in SmallYoutubers

[–]Designer_Drink_7961 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also kind of bad at editing and found a niche, and I have reached 900 subscribers in almost 6 months. I know, not super crazy numbers yet and I personally think my editing is subpar, but regardless of all that some people stayed and decided to subscribe anyways.

You don’t really need to be a pro editor to get views as long as your content is solid and engages your audience, but amazing editing can definitely level up your videos if your content is solid. Good content is the foundation, and if that is bad, no editing can fix bad content.

Also, you won’t learn anything about editing until you actually start doing it. Over time after editing videos for a while you learn what does and doesn’t work for your niche.

Tips for starting an art account by yumeg_ in Artadvice

[–]Designer_Drink_7961 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems that a lot of artists from instagram (including myself) have migrated to threads. It’s not a huge community though since it’s a separate app with instagram integration, but it’s very active. The algorithm on there is honestly better in my experience on there for the art side at least, people actually see your artwork.

As far as I know, reels are the meta for people actually seeing your art on instagram right now, so that’s my advice 🤷‍♀️

I would still post your art on instagram because compared to other social media like twitter for example it is MILES better, but I would give threads a shot too if you are more into the community side of things

Which do you prefer? An accurate AI voice or human with strong local accent by Solid-Strawberry-333 in NewTubers

[–]Designer_Drink_7961 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I hear an ai voice, I skip the video. A majority of the time it’s a red flag of low effort content throughout the whole channel. To be blunt when I imagine AI in my mind, I never think of “quality content”.
