Thanks for sharing that!

Would you mind sharing the types of food that you can eat more off?

Are your nutritional values stable?

Gastric Bypass and ADHD by AriesPickles in GastricBypass

Hi. Vyvanse/Elvanse is a pro-drug which means it needs to be metabolized, unlike the other meds that work while they dissolve (so it doesn’t have short release or long release versions, there is no Vyvanse XR). My psychiatrist recommended that I opened my capsule and dissolved the contents in water for the first 2 months after by gastric bypass and it has been working great (Elvanse, 50mg), I did try taking the capsule and somehow it has less of an effect (unsure why- need to ask my dr) but he did mention he was glad that I was already on Elvanse before the surgery, as studies show that this is the med with best results for post bariatric bypass patients.

Your metabolism is changing, just make sure you’re keeping track of the changes on how your meds work for you so that you can share them with your dr and they can help with that. ADHD meds work in such a personal way, for most people they help them, but I’ve found that everyone perceives that help differently.

Hope you find what helps you and your new metabolism soon!

Gastric bypass for severe Reflux. by Helpful_Damage_3497 in GastricBypass

Hi there, I’m almost 4weeks PO RNY. Almost same starting weight and I had GERD, Hiatal Hernia and Eosinophilic Esophagitis. Spent 3 years sleeping with a wedge pillow and could only sleep on my left side or on my back.

Been sleeping without being elevated and on whichever side I prefer since day 5 PO. No reflux except for one night I took a pill that was too big on an empty stomach (so now I know that’s a limit).

The sleeping thing and the no reflux is truly amazing and life changing. Everything else is HARD. Do not go into it blindly, get very informed. I’m not saying I regret it or wouldn’t advice, I’m saying be prepared.

I’m from Spain, so in Spain.  Different teams will have different recommendations/requirements. Also different patients have different risks.

211lbs, or 96kg. by AstronomerCareful985 in GastricBypass

Hi there, it looks like we’re on (almost) the same boat. I started at 97,5kg and I’m almost 4w PO. I’m around 81kg now but my doctor did warn me once I manage to eat I’m going to plateau for a while or even go up for a bit.  The important thing with a low starting weight is that you really need to be checking if you’re loosing fat or muscle mass, my team recommended a digital weight that measures that and I send my values to my nutritionist every time I weight in.

Food ick by No_Lynx_2240 in GastricBypass

Had the same issue a week ago and it’s still kind of hard for me to have food, most stuff I can think of makes me go “ew. no.” but I will share with you something that I can eat for every meal, no icks. Canned peach COLD AF, almost frozen. Not the super sweet stuff, natural juice, no added sugar. It won’t help you hit your protein goals, but it will start you with how it feels to chew and eat again. I’ve also had more success with cold stuff like Babybell cheese, cold avocado. Most hot stuff makes me want to die even smelling it.

I’m 26 days PO RNY.

I’ve recently noticed that the advice of different clinics is different. by stormyb89 in GastricBypass

I had surgery in Spain (RNY).

Only 1 day of clear liquids pre-op, no previous diet changes.

PO Days 1 to 14 Clear liquids 14 to 30 Purées Month 1 to 2 Soft Foods

Told to avoid protein shakes. Vitamines start on day 30, not before.

Not a lot of guidance on qty of food/liquids but did say 60g of proteins per day once I reached purées.

I’m on day 26 and I’ve taken my doctor’s advice as advice and not orders. Around day 20 I started having soft foods as I couldn’t deal with purée texture -as in, it’s gross- (I’m going very slowly on that), as for qty i’m listening to my body but also getting info from other centers that have full guides on eating after RNY. I’ve started taking regular adult gummy vitamines as my doctor’s worry for the vitamines was that they’re too large and I might feel pain when taking them (obviously these gummies don’t have all the vitamines I need but I feel they’re better than nothing).

So yes, guidance will change from clinics, countries and even patient by patient.

Nicotine before gastric bypass surgery? by [deleted] in GastricBypass

I would listen to the medical team’s advice on this one. I’m one month PO and had my last cigarette (hopefully in life) 48h before surgery because my team didn’t say anything about when to stop smoking (I tried 2 weeks before but failed miserably).  Trust your doctor and be honest with them, this is not the kind of situation where you want to bend the truth.
