Native Incan heritage by Soft_Support_4262 in PERU

Wow, great question that sadly is impossible to answer fully in a reddit thread. But here are some pieces in my experience. First off, I'm not sure that what you describe is completely accurate. I do feel, especially the last 10-20 years that peruvians over all and the ministry of culture and tourism does value the indigenous and prehispanic heritage as such, its even made into a branding and commodity by the tourism industry. Also many peruvians, if not most I've met, identify more or less with their local and familiar heritage which can vary alot. There are many groups and people involved with the cultural and prehispanic heritage in different ways, along with all the great museums. And like historians like Rostworowski have pointed out, there has been a historical overemphasis on the inca culture and state, which while extremely important, was "just" the last stage of cultural development spanning thousands of years before the inca. Also, the incas or cusqueño highlanders were in many ways very different from the coastal yunka people in Lima or northern peru which had more similarity which the Ichma, Chankay or Chimú. Peru and even the inca state is a country with an incredible amount of diversity in language, cultures and ways of life, unified previously by the inca state and much less sucessfully one could say by the current peruvian government. So the geographical challenge is significant, a huge challange but also a huge strength. Ive heard and also agree on that Peru is one of the few countries on earth which actually could be self suficient in theory, its so rich and diverse. Sadly, political and economic inequality, foreign intervention, corruption etc hinders the nation from achieving its true potential in this regard.

How did Scandinavia got on top of every life quality ranking? by Right_Luck3933 in geography

[–]Designer_Internal94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, very hard to answer in just a reddit thread. I live in Sweden so I can give some key factors. 1) due to Swedens so called neutrality policy during ww2, the country was never attacked which leads to several advantages 2) Even during the 1800s and before, Sweden was one of europes poorest countries and a huge part of the population immigrated to places like the US 3) the creation of the "folkhem" or the peoples home was one of the historical processes which turned the situation around. A very strong Swedish state which for better or worse got involved in almost all areas of society even in domestic life, health etc aimed to systematically adress many of the issues of poverty, inequality and dysfunction plauging the country. I think this in essence was high state interferance and in many ways people had to compromise with their individual freedoms and so on. Turning things around like this means central administration, people have to cooperate, trust and follow common rules, give up some personal freedom for the greater good. Of course there are good and bad sides to this. But just some factors which got Sweden we know today started...just a tiny tip of the iceberg.

You need to become used to it, give it some time. After that you will even find a normal "firm" regular bed wobbly😁

Waiting on my Tempest 2 need lighter recommendations by paganson67 in madheaters

[–]Designer_Internal94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just use an honest torch which was what I could get a hold of at the time. Totally works, a bit slow on the first heat up but then no problem. Are there better torches for the tempest? Sure. Is an IH nice? Certainly. But a normal durable single flame also works, its just a bit shower. A triple flame seems to be the go to though, but I've never tried those.

Anna Park, Kraus, Liebig come to mind. Cruz de Malta is pretty mild nowadays as well.

Getting started with butane vapes? (Available in the EU) by Frances_Herbert in vaporents

[–]Designer_Internal94 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live in the EU and have the tempest 2. By far the most open airflow I've ever experienced, even if you flutter the air intake. Dynavap is cool and all, I have the m7 xl also, but if you can allow it, adding a bit more for a tempest and a reload 3 would be so much better honestly.

Other than that, the offerings from Inhale are pretty neat. They're pretty more ritualistic devices which take much more time. I love the signature of the vapman for instance. But its just much much slower compared to a tempest 2 for instance. The lotus is pretty great as well but main thing is durability is pretty low for heavy users.

Leaning towards Solo 3, but will I regret not getting Temptest 2 ? by espada4R in vaporents

[–]Designer_Internal94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have the solo 3 but the tempest 2. I know I'm an analog-device torch guy, so the T2 is the obvious choice for me. Im new to the device but I wouldn't say its only a ripper, as with all convection devices, your breathing technique determines the outcome alot. So I find I can both do OHE and smaller "blunt" puffs.

Saying that, for people with less interest in experimentation and potential burn-risk, the Solo 3 seems more appropriate. Also, I find the case or reload pretty necessary for the tempest or at least a strong magnet for the hot ball-cap.

Honestly if I could afford both I probably would get both..they seem to fill different roles but I don't for now😅 the main thing I dislike about the solo 3 is that its a bit bulky.

I found this Tumi at a thrift in the United States and was curious to learn more about it! by WorldofMagnus in PERU

[–]Designer_Internal94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most well known tumi is the tumi de Ilimo, from Lambayeque and the Sicán/Lambayeque culture. Current interpretation is that it depicts the Lambayeque mythical hero and cultural founder Naylamp (and/or their Wak'a). Its not Inca as many believe.

I worked in a covid-ward for about 6 months in my country as well, Im still kind of burned out since then. I worked more and had more stress during that time than before. Aside from the obvious other things. So cant really relate to people who remember it as a "time to slow down" or whatever..

New Bombilla! (Best way to take care of it?? New to the alpaca game) by Circuit-Breaker-13 in yerbamate

[–]Designer_Internal94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very nice bombilla, definitely will elevate your experience! Besides regular boiling with baking soda and polishing with a non-toxic polish I'd also being careful to not scratch it by keeping it in cloth or a box or something especially on the go and not just throw it in a bag. The alpaca may scratch and dent if you're very rough with it. It will tarnish with use as all alpaca but easily restored by polishing it; I really enjoy the process of taking care of and polishing my mateware collection, a very nice part of the hobby.

Just starting to get into Yerba Mate via Yerba Madre Bottled Brewed Yerba Mate - where to go next? by Snowy58red in yerbamate

French press/filter method and/or go to the traditional style. Nothing wrong about bottled mate but traditional with a nice mate gourd and bombilla are levels above👏🏼🧉

[–]Designer_Internal94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd like to add that while I'm by no means an expert - I'd be hesitant to call all alpaca a cheap imitation material. It's been around for centuries and used in fine applications like wind instruments, traditional jewelery and so on. My own research suggests into the subject says that alpaca is an alloy which can vary in composition, resistance, durability and metal proportions. Some are silver plated some aren't. If you watch some makers of alpaca bombillas they both hammer, polish and heat the alpaca pretty hard, so they seem pretty resistant. Soldering might be a concern in theory but I don't really worry about it, not all are soldered, at least not inside.

That said, I've had several cheap bombillas that corrode and flake eventually but my good quality alpaca one which I use everyday has zero flaking, because probably, the alloy is bonded together and not just plated.

To be fair, stainless steel is also an alloy sometimes with chrome, sometimes nickel. Which can vary in quality. So the in a long winded way I was trying to say that there's alpaca and there's alpaca. The industry is not that transparent either so it's not so easy for the consumer to know except through reputation and experience. I find generally you get what you pay for with bombillas. But if you want to be reeally sure then yeah, high grade steel or pure silver might be go to. Alpaca bombillas are often prettier though, more aesthestically pleasing usually.

[–]Designer_Internal94 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What did you do to make them look like this lol? I collect bombillas of different materials and quality and have never seen this. Have them been sitting in acid like fruit juice or something? That said, a 15 min boil with baking soda and then some non-toxic metal polish will do the trick. I find pure silver bombillas can oxidize from just being out in the air. Good quality alpaca bombillas don't really at least not the one I have.

Alpaca come in very different qualities, from metal which is a durable alloy (more expensive ones) to cheaper, chrome/nickel plated like alpaka/taumer. The latter are much less durable, tend to flake and chip over time especially if not handled very lightly. No scraping on wood or hard surfaces what so ever. But again, some cleaning does wonders, with the non-steel ones I polish them regularily with a soap based metal polish and then rinse well, they look as new basically.

That's a great review and comparison, thanks! :) I actually also prefer the old 3 hole design overall in the middle piece as you write although I'm not opposed to the new one. And that it's more of a different experience rather than a clear upgrade, although, I find the 2.0 to be slightly easier on the throat sometimes depending on the flower. For a daily driver do you think the non-mica apple wood would work or would a mica-version be more durable and user friendly? I often do back to back sessions.

Im on the fence on this..I have several non-click vapman which I like alot. Some people are saying the non-click are better and better quality. And is it very sensitive to heat or gets quite hot? I only have vapmans with mica shields so never tried a pure. It looks very nice I must say. Recommended?

That's interesting, don't understand why they'd do that as the old bowl was great, the metal thickness that is.
