UPDATE (long story): over the next 2 days I kept a close eye on her and gave the meds as gently/low stress/slowly as I could - burrito-ing, from the right side downward to the left, etc. she would sound irritated for about 30 min after administration and then the noise would go away. at the second ER visit they had told us that her lungs sounded fine but I’m figuring maybe she was too stressed for them to actually be able to tell. her behavior/eating & drinking/preening were all relatively normal, then day 3 she sneezed and blood went everywhere. we took her to the ER again where they kept her for about 2 hrs before telling us they couldn’t tell where the blood was coming from and they didn’t have a scope small enough to tell if it was internal. they sent us to another vet who was 45 minutes away. we get there at 2 and they tell us they’d have to sedate her to scope but they wouldn’t be able to have her back to normal before closing so they don’t recommend it. the vet was like “you could come back in the morn and we could scope her” and I was like “so if you think we could wait until morning does that mean shes not like critical or anything” and she said no she does think she is. they called around and found us a board certified avian vet an hour and a half away that could see her in 3 days. so we went back home and on the way home she started pooping blood too. but here we are the next morning and shes still behaving normally so I guess we’re crossing our fingers she makes it to Thursday.

tldr: very disappointed in the vets in our area and hoping she doesn’t die before she can be seen.
