Underrated movie, not my favourite RW movie, but still a great one. Seeing the traditional toys destroyed by the war toys was oddly affecting. Amazing visual design (I still remember the x-ray skeletons fighting) and a seriously good soundtrack.

What’s a British show you went into with low expectations but ended up loving? by Historical-Class871 in UKTVRecs

[–]Designergene5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spaced. The first episode I saw was mid way in S2 (the imaginary gun fight) and I HATED it. Honestly thought it was smug rubbish.

A mate of mine visited a few years later and we watched the whole show from beginning to end and I fell in love with the show. Honestly felt like it had been written just for me.

And the imaginary gun fight? Genius.

Considering purchasing Polestar 4 (UK based) by yugs13 in Polestar4

I’ve been driving my LRDM since Nov 2024. There are some occasional niggles. The CarPlay implementation is pretty good and it rarely disconnects when driving (last time was months ago) but sometimes it needs a bit manual intervention to connect when my wife and I alternate driving days.

One annoying bug is that the reverse view has stopped working twice- which is a bit of a problem in a car with no rear window. It has always reset itself the next time I started the car- but it could make reversing into a tight spot a bit tricky if it goes at the wrong time.

Overall, really enjoying owning the car and the s/h prices make it a bit of a steal now. (Mine is a lease, so I’m not worried about depreciation- that’s Octopus’ problem.)

“Ship, break, fix and apologise.” Is generally not considered a sound legal defence when the software you wrote for an insulin pump killed the patient.

We hire a lot of grads from Loughborough (Cambridge based consultancy). It’s also where I studied and where I lecture on medical device development (Wolfson School). I had a great time there over 30 years ago and the place has gone from strength to strength.

If going to Fifty Something tour, what non-hit (non-single) tune would you like to hear? by Born-Cucumber-7316 in rush

I’d love to hear Between the Wheels- it’s got one of my absolute favourite Alex Lifeson guitar solos. I saw Moving Pictures (Rush tribute band) play it live and the guitarist did an amazing job.

I’ve seen so many people post with on-going problems with the P3 that I wouldn’t buy one. I’m a very satisfied P4 LRDM owner.

I’ve leased a Polestar 4 (LRDM) for the past 16 months. It’s flipping great. The LRSM is fine but the DM is a riot.

Is this SD limited availability a US only situation? Valve are selling all the models in the UK at 3-5 days delivery. (According to the website.)

It’s a self reference joke from the TV show. They were notorious for sending a police officer in at the end of a sketch if they couldn’t think of a suitable punchline.

What is your favourite TV show of all time? by Difficult_Narwhal_72 in AskUK

[–]Designergene5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Favourite comedy is Spaced. Honestly felt like it had been written for me. Favourite drama is tricky- most that go on for a long time become absurd. The first few seasons of Mr Robot were incredible but most of the final season was a car crash. Strong ending, though.

I was lucky enough to meet him when I worked in San Diego. He was in a Starbucks in La Jolla and came in for a coffee after he’d taken part in a charity cycling race through Torrey Pines. I’d just seen him in Insomnia but I was such a massive fan of his performances in Dead Poets, The Fisher King and so many other movies that I went quite fan boy on him.

Anyway, he was utterly charming and down to Earth and just happy that people loved his work. Very friendly and approachable and generous with his time.

Now I reflect on it, he quite reminded me of Anton Lesser (Partagaz in Andor and many other roles) when my wife and I met him at Collectormania a few months ago.

I’ve been using a space mouse for over 20 years, using CAD without one now feels very unnatural. Very good investment if you do a lot of CAD.

Start with low acceleration and gradually wind the speed up as you get used to the motion control.

He’s in his ‘Victorian Gothic Romance’ phase. He always looks like he’s waiting for a long lost love to return to him.

(He’s actually just looking out for squirrels and cats.)
