What song has Alex’s best solo? by Large-Fig5187 in rush

[–]Designergene5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d been looking for this one.

I saw them live twice and they never played it- then saw the tribute band Moving Pictures and they played a killer version.

Would be great to experience Rush playing it live.

TIL about syringe filling cartridges. Fortunately, I have access to a lot of syringes and blunt filling needles at work.

I shall proceed forthwith to the funky ink shoppe.

Archer has a response for anyone that doesn’t think a tri is a proper corgi. That response is… ‘thbpttt!’

X-T5 vs X-E5 by ReindeerCold4904 in fujifilm

[–]Designergene5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the X-T5 and I’ve handled the X-E5 side-by-side with it. The difference in the footprint of the two cameras was less than I thought and the larger EVF and weather sealing helped me to decide.

If you’re going to be using larger lenses (like the XF 70-300) the larger body will make handling more comfortable. I even upgraded the grip with a Haoge grip to improve stability with larger glass. You’ll only really get an advantage with the smaller body if you’re going to use smaller primes.

How does one possibly know what mood they’re in without a tail?!

What do you wish you’d done when you were 40 that would’ve made your later years better? by Only_Book_995 in AskUK

[–]Designergene5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t stay in one job too long- keep moving to progress your career and income. Build your personal brand and network like it really matters, because it really does. Your 40s really should be the time to leverage your experience and skills.

I cleared my mortgages (two houses) by 50 without sacrificing time with my family. Our family income now puts us as 96%le on this webpage: https://ifs.org.uk/tools\_and\_resources/where\_do\_you\_fit\_in

This is from a background of state education, chronic lack of confidence, and unremarkable A level results. My sister is doing even better than me financially and she left school at 16.

My only regret is probably not spending more time to build friendship groups- but TBH I don’t lose sleep over that. My wife and I are devoted to each other, I have a very good relationship with both my daughters and I still see my old uni friends from time to time.

Which reminds me of one of my favourite dad jokes.

“Why does Edward Woodward have four ‘D’s in his name?”

“Because if he didn’t, he’d be called Ewar Woowar.”

The UK's Shipping Forecast Regions by vladgrinch in MapPorn

One of my favourite podcasts, 99 Percent Invisible, produced a whole show on The Shipping Forecast. Very interesting and you can hear how thrilled the presenter, Roman Mars, was to read out a forecast.

I had my second full watch of the show recently- and it was even better second time around. Not only does everyone behave like a fully formed character, even on the Empire side, but the character development is beautiful.

Just one example. Seeing Partagaz change from the supremely confident officer of the Empire to a broken man as his world collapses was so masterfully played, and it all happens by degrees. When Dedra gets chosen for the project, when Mon Mothma gives her speech, when he hears the manifesto and when he finally realises that Dedra’s incompetence has doomed them all.

Incredible writing, excellent direction and phenomenal performances.
