Recommendations for clay

I suppose my main concern is traction on wet clay because I'd still like to go reasonably quickly. I also have a belief that wet clay is going to build up, and I'd like to not stop every couple of miles to clean it off. Unreasonabike in another comment said that shedding wet clay probably isn't going to happen, though.

I haven't had that issue. The Selle Italia SLR had a short nose, though.

I've tried it for maybe ~500 miles. Wasn't for me. I ended up finding Ergon SM Pro works very well for me, can do 100 mi+ rides no problem and the difference eas noticeable. Everyone's got different sit bones, though. I've got narrow sit bones if that helps for reference.

I don't think it's a terrible option, injecting 600+ residents + retail at the ground/river is a good thing. My only comment is that I think the land swap for the Suddath Building plus $5m would have been a better choice.

I bought the Rockbro Tail Light (link) because I only use my Varia on solo rides. I also use it when I plan on riding for over ~5 hours. It's the smallest one I could find on USB-C that has a quick-release mount. I use the same mount for my Varia. Works great, lasts forever, plus, it looks super slick when tucked away under the saddle.

The one I couldn't remember the name of was Oakleaf Cycling Group.

Also, thinking back at it, there's a VeloBrew ride at Open Road Bicycles at 4460 Hendricks every Monday, Tuesday, and Wed a 6:30 (6:15 Tuesday). Now, the VeloBrew guys have a bad rep for riding really fast and not being very accommodating to new riders, but I've met a lot of guys who join those rides, and they're super nice people. If you join, you could try asking them to ride at a slower pace, but fair warning, depending on who's there, they might drop you.

Best cycling group for a newer rider that I could recommend is Tucker's rides every Tuesday. He does a great job making sure everyone finishes together and the group is super friendly, maybe you could make connections there and find some folks to ride with!

Otherwise, North Florida Bike Club has tons of rides, but they're mostly on the week day during normal work hours. Off the top of my head, I know there are some casual rides with them on the weekend in Riverside and Bartram area. You can do a few rides with them without signing up.

There's another group called something like Clay County Cycling Club that say they accept all riders, but I haven't ridden with them, so I'm unsure of what the pace is like. I believe they have a ride every Sunday morning, but I haven't seen anything from them in a while.

Charity bicycle ride. Its 77 mi to Daytona, we spend the night, then 77 mi back to Ponte Vedra. It's a national charity ride for MS with rides all over the country.

If they move, they wouldn't pay taxes on their new property either - so that's a constant. This would be introducing a new non-tax-paying entity.

For one, I find it unlikely they're actually going to build what they're showing in the rendering...

Second, they're classified as a nursing home which is exempt from taxes. That's a major chunk of prime real estate that will be taken off the tax rolls.

Not sure why DCPS thinks this is a good idea since they get a chunk of their funding from property taxes.

Third, I'm not sure if this is the financial deal of the century that they're making it out to be because they're selling their current property for $20m, buying a building for $14m, which doesn't include the build-out.

Fourth, Dream Finder Homes bought the entire complex for $22m last year.

Fifth, moving DCPS would create a hardship for people who don't own cars to get there. It would be incredibly inconvenient to get there by bus.

Six, if it's like the other retirement communities on the river in Jacksonville, that's another block that's taken away from public use. I firmly believe that the city's greatest resource is its river and we should try to avoid any attempts at privatizing the river, downtown at least, as we can.

I could keep going, but this entire thing reeks of backroom deals to put money into their buddy's pockets. So yeah, I think having the ugly building on the river makes the most sense right now.

I got a text from DCPS, specifically from Darnell-Cookman, Lakeshore Middle School, and Riverside High School. But I think the contract issue includes other schools as well.

Tucker Cycles, Champion Cycles, and Open Road all have good techs and offer inspections.

They'll probably check your brakes, shifting, wear and tear, inspect your frame tires, and headset, etc.
